  • 0_0; the fudge was that...

  • lmao really someone tell what was so scary about this video!!

  • Nice to read that I was not the only one sort of traumatized by this video.

  • Somebody needs to make some Wet Paint GIFs for tumblr :D

  • Ugh, those little puppet feet still creep me out. I don't think the screaming helped when we were kids, either. Like 0:50 - 0:53? Comon now.

  • I used to fast forward through this one. Scared me too much.

  • I remember the first time I saw this when I was a Kid I used to have Nightmares for Weeks!!! omg It was so Scary

  • Is it the voice of Peter Gabriel ?

  • @megg2038 It's Chris Cerf

  • Parts of this sound a lot like Pink Floyd.

  • yeah, this scared me all the time in the 80's.

  • Why are people scared of this? Maybe they're neat freaks.

  • @ZomsEcho Must be the way the singer screamed

  • How did this scare some people? Did you think the paint was blood or something?

  • 80's rock! :-)

  • Sesame street classics will never die...much love and respect, peace yall.

  • I was terrified of this as a kid.

  • Was this the clip that was banned?

  • I saw the 'wet paint' thing after YEEEEEARS and i remember every word!

  • Ok...so this is the first time I watched this all the way through because when I was a kid I was TERRIFIED of this video...lol. idk why, but i would run out of the room when it came on...lol. so i just had to look it up to see it now that i'm in my mid 20s . It's so strange what we're scared of as kids...lol.

  • the end of this when the screen "melted" used to freak me out as a kid. And it sort of still does.

  • What freaked me out as a kid was the creepy feet slopping around in the "wet paint".

  • @mattpapineau Dude, me too.

  • Yep, this one got me too when I was a little kid. After the first time, seeing the opening title prompted me to leave the room IMMEDIATELY.

  • That is so funny! This scared me too! I can't believe I'm not the only one who was creeped out by this when I was a kid. My husband thinks I'm crazy lol.

  • 1,2,3..hit it with some paint!

  • He is about the same as JB.

    HOW EVER...

    He's better than Josh Ramsay.

  • Something tells me that the backdrops behind the band are green-screened or chroma-keyed.

  • made u wanna dance in wet paint dont it?

  • I remember this one.

  • it's so funny that i'm not the only one but this video horrified the shit out of me as a kid.

  • @fede2 Me too! I looked for it remembering there was a video that creeped me out about paint. This was it. I don't know why it did looking back but I remember feeling very uncomfortable watching this as a kid.

  • Don't laugh at me, but this clip absolutely frightened me to death as a kid. It scared me even more than "Danger's No Stranger", although that one gave me the creeps, too. I remember watching Sesame Street one time at my cousin's house, and when this came on, I cowered behind the coffee table the whole time. Don't know what it was that freaked me out; maybe it was all that paint oozing down like blood, or maybe it was the music, or maybe it was because I had a VERY scary dream about it.

  • @08skydancer Yes! no me too! I stumbled onto a Sesame video and I thought for kicks I would see if they had this on YouTube, ya this scared me too! so bad my mom actually had to write a letter to the station requesting they take it off. So the next time I wen't to watch Sesame Street wet paint came on and I freaked of course. I think this has everything to do with the Pupa-phobia I have now.

  • for some reason, when i was way younger and saw this on TV, it used to turn me on. And i used to have to watch it right to the end, like it was the most important thing in the world.

  • IM ADDICTED TO THIS SONG!!!! OwO I play it like 10 times a day ^-^ i remember when my lil brother was a baby and we played this song for him in our car. He never liked it but i was always going crazy over this song xDDDD

  • My band would be a hit too, if we had cows as backup singers.

  • Whenever I heard this song as a kid, it always made me want to grab buckets of paint and throw them against the wall XD

  • I LOVED this clip when I was a kid! I don't get why so many of you guys were scared of the paint. I thought it was really cool. It reminded me of finger painting and messy things like that... which I just loved.

  • what is this a parody of? brings back childhood memories!

  • This song was just down right terrifying to me and clearly many others as a child. I would love to ask a psychologist why so many people are scared of it. It's quite interesting

  • I remember this!

  • this song always gave me diarrhea as a kid

  • i was scared of this song too i still dont know why when i was 4 years old back in the day i can see everyone eles agrees with me!

  • I was also afraid of this as a child. Having difficulty figuring out which part scared me. Maybe some of those paint animations?

  • This song is the joint and also an parody to maybe rick james superfreak

  • Omg...the memories! I watched the show during the 80s...great stuff! I still think that "old school" Sesame Street was one the best kids programs ever.

  • I used to LOVE watching Sesame Street all the time as a child, and it makes me soo happy to hear that this video disturbed other children as well!! What was it about this video??

  • this scared the crap outta me when i was little

  • @blackkat77 DOOD. Me too. I would run out of the room and hide until it was over. It was those little puppet feet I tell ya.

  • @whisperedtheme i didnt like the paint dripping and splashing on the screen

  • vocalist is Christopher Cerf

  • 13 people cant afford paint

  • r,fddcx

  • 1:23. Lol!

  • This segment has pretty much ALL the things a stereotypical 1980s music video would have!

  • I remember when this song gave me nightmares as a child...i don't know why but i could never watch it for some reason LOL

  • so intriguing how he madly dances to an endless orgasmic paint filled oblivion.

  • what song was this a parady of

  • This song is a JAM!

  • is it just me or is there something oddly sensual about this song

  • this used to scare the shit out of me when i was little. my parents had to turn the tv off when it came on.

  • omggggggggggggggggg

    i forgot about this

  • I love the Moo Wave!

  • yoooooo dis was ma song wet paint yoooo dis was the ish wen i was small watched the video every day

  • i used to love it when the boots would squish in the paint.

  • @SydneywithLove Yes, the little brown boots! I used to spill my finger paints and squish them with my jelly shoes because of this song!

  • i think i was about 7 or 8 when this first came out as a new clip on Sesame Street. love it!

  • This video always freaked me out when I was a child... Still kinda does and I'm 20...

  • i am so old.... and i am 20. oh my god, memories of youth.

  • Flava Flav!!!!

  • havent heard this song for like 2 years now

  • When I was a child this was the only thing I was legitimately scared of.. smb3rocks, I know exactly how you feel.

  • When I was a child this was the only thing I was legitimately scared of.. smb3rocks, I know exactly how you feel.

  • i like this video ( : lol

  • Is it just me, or does this song sound like a cross between "Super Freak" by Rick James and "Rock The Casbah" by the Clash?

  • i think I know why we were afraid of this as a kid. For one all the puppets have horns on their heads. But most of all the paint running down the wall reminded me of blood, let alone the overall bizarreness of the video. I was traumatized by this as a child.

  • @smb3rocks well, I've watched this about once or twice when I was a kid, and I don't remember having myself scared about the video. Though I may remember it as annoying when they started throwing paint in front of the screen at the end.

  • I don't remember this as scary, more like weird, with the lead vocal slipping around his feet on the painted floor, rather it looks fun to do in real life. Too bad our parents didn't want us to be messy back then.

  • Perfect song to get me ready to paint my apartment today! :)

  • 99% better than most music produced today!

  • the guy doing the vocals has a really good voice!! anyone know his name??? id pay top dollar to see how now brown and the moo wave live in concert!!

  • Better than Justin Bieber

  • @eragonrex1 Everything is better than Justin Bieber!!

  • @eragonrex1 WAY better than Justin Bieber lol! ;)

  • @eragonrex1

How on earth is there even a comparison?!?!?! On the one hand you have educational, wholesome awesomeness, on the other a boy who "sings" but sounds like a girl.......yeah.....no comparison

  • surprising to hear so many others were scared of this as a child, I was as well but none of us know why. But now it seems so harmless?

  • bit . ly/jerku

  • These guys better than Jonas Brothers

  • FUCK@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

  • Oh man, this used to scare me sooooooooooooooooooo much when I was little...I can't believe i found this...

  • @chrontastic2 It frightens you subconciously XD

  • I like the Moo Wave!

  • thats the same cows from do wop hop

  • Oh, man, this thing traumatized me as a kid. I remember watching "Sesame Street" one time at my cousin's house, and when this came on, I actually jumped behind the coffee table and cowered there. This scared me even more than "Danger". Don't know what it was about "Wet Paint" that caused me to flip out the way I did. Maybe it was the way the paint oozed down all over the place, like blood; or maybe it was the spooky music, or the fact that I had a nightmare about this and it stuck with me.

  • @08skydancer No.

  • This whole song terrified me as a kid. Really found it scary. Dont know why. Not scared now. Strange. Cant put my finger on why I found it so scary now lol. The only thing it is now is incredibly cheesy lol

  • what is this video supposed to teach little kids.

  • @Nightmastercool97

Back in the 80's and 90's. You can learn..and toss in awesome songs about weird stuff. Ive had this song stuck in my head since i was 4 and lets be honest. You want your kid singing the crap we have today...or rockin out to a sesame street jam?

  • I used to get this weird feeling when I watched this video when i was little. after reading these comments it seems people found it scary so maybe that was it but I always liked watching it with more of a fascination I think and its so nostalgic to watch it now too!

  • @Shanny9966 same here..lol

  • VINTAGE TUNE

  • This song is cool!

  • my lil bro love dis song.... n i member dancin in my diaper in front d tv 2 dis song.... WET PAINT! red n green n yellow 2 purple pink n baby blue wet paint! :))

  • This would be a perfect theme song for the Pokemon Smeargle.

  • This gave me nightmares when I was younger.

  • SOCK IT TO MEH! SOCK IT TO MEH! SOCK THAT W ET PAINT TO MEH!!

    lol Best. Line. EVER!

  • the ending scared me when i was a kid

  • amazing

  • OMG! I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE SHIT WHEN I WAS KID!!!

    LOL! It still is!

  • Loved this song as a kid. Anyone who's been to J'ouvert in Trinidad and Tobago will understand the appeal of slinging wet paint at everyone :P

  • i remember this I CRIED WHEN I SAW THIS

1:11 REMINDS ME OF THROW UP LOL

  • lol

  • HOLY CRAP I remember this. I think that I found it slightly creepy as a kid, but I just couldn't take my eyes away from it.

  • same

  • The ending trip me out.

  • Better then MTV though!

  • This freaked me out as a kid (and still does), but I think I liked it at the same time... kinda like how people like watching horror movies.

(0:25 reminds me of dripping blood >.>)

  • OH MY GOD! I used to hate this too. I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

  • Man, I thought I was the only one that found this video creepy when I was a kid.

  • I would rather be yelled at by Billy Mays than a puppet splashing paint on me.

  • This video used to make me run away from the tv crying when I was a kid! haha, looking at it now, I'm not sure why!

  • This didn't bother me as a kid. But "Danger's No Stranger" I found a bit freaky

  • 0:52 is a funny part and so is 1:17! my daughter loves this song she has to hear it at least twice.

  • This song is the shit. My baby bro loves it and i can't believe, im actually hearing this song.

  • 0:52 was not as scary as 1:17(!) those cripply legs freak me out!

  • As a fan of new wave, naturally, I like this song. It's not scary to me, but it is pretty trippy for a hippie at heart. O_o

Furthermore, Chris Cerf was (and still is) a master when it came to new wave songs like this and "Danger's No Stranger".

  • My friend sang a parody version to this song called "wet brake"

  • lol...simply MARVELOUS

  • when you were young though, didnt you just wish you could put those awesome fun boots on so bad, and sing about wet paint while you slided and smooshed all over the place and just become him for a day? I remember i used to want to be him more than anything! he made it look more fun that everything else

  • Its also scary at the end, when you watch him dancing madly in his boots, and how his boots all melt away into the paint, as if he is turning into paint, and the way he screams in desperation like hes enjoying it heaps makes it creepy.

  • Why does this scare a lot of kids? its weird, I heard babys cry when they watch this video.

  • I've sorta wondered, what was the whole point of making it look like How Now had paint thrown on him in the first place at the end?

  • i loved the singing cows

  • OMG this is my song :D

  • Happy 40th Sesame Street! muah! :D

  • this was my alltime fav sesame street vid

  • ob1benji1 it is true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The entire video used to scare me. Who would want to have someone yell paint at you and blind your vision? SesameStreet, can you please comment on the fact that kids were scared of this video?

  • Dude, you're not alone. This video used to scare me too. Especially at 1:51. It looked as though the guy was melting. That really freaked me out! :(

At least it was less scary than the Sesame Street News Flash opening. That scared me shitless!

  • I am thinking of making him as a character in Mortal Kombat Armageddon and having Sub Zero finish him.

  • The Sesame Street News Flash opening? Scared you? Not me.

I don't think there's anything on Sesame Street that scared me as a kid.

  • You'd be surprised. Many Sesame Street segments are notorious for freaking kids out (look up "I-beam).

I can understand if you weren't scared by the SSNF opening. As for me: black background and flashing lights + loud, dissonant music + loud ominous announcer voice = scary experience!!!! :S

  • Whoa, flashing lights? Loud music and announcer voice? Really?

  • Oh, and I just saw the I beam sketch. I thought it was really cool, but the music.....well, now I know why loads of people were scared of it.

  • I used to find the Sesame Street News logo a bit scary, mostly due to like what you said, the black background and high-contrast colors (especially the older variants from the early 1970s), urgent-sounding music and loud announcer voice (Jerry Nelson was often known for doing announcer voices like that). But luckily, a funny sketch was almost always sure to follow with our favorite frog, Kermit :)

  • Before I knew how to read, I thought they were singing, "Wet pain." It freaked me out, because "wet pain" sounded scary.

  • LOL! Now THAT would be scary!

  • Man, i wanna get this on my Zune

  • 00:51

  • This video always freaked me out when I was little...

  • i'm putting this on my mp3 player...

it's way to awesome not to

  • This'd be a good ringtone. :P

  • I want this on my Mp3, too! It'll fit right in with all the other 80's songs I have on there.

  • this scared me too!

I also thought the original ending was different...and it was confirmed when I read the other comments

  • Are you reffering to that rare version shown, being the scren-splitting version?

  • Not even sure....it's been too long haha.

  • This is one of my all time faves from Sesame Street! So cool! I love the 80's!

  • Why don't they show those songs on MTV?

  • Cause back in the 80's, Sesame Street basicly WAS MTV. ;)

  • Yes, MTV for little kids! ;-)

  • I know. This song is addicting xDD

  • the end of this song used to scare the crap out of me . . . when the screen would melt . . . for years I wondered what the heck was that song--now I know! Very very 80s! SS in the 80s was fun.

  • Yeah, the melting effect is pretty trippy. On the longer version, the ending gets even trippier when the colors begin mixing.

  • Also, kinda seems like both of How Now's songs have a meaning for them.

    Wet Paint - Trippy

    Danger's No Stranger - Violent

    :P

  • I dont get what the cows have to do with anything

  • Because the group is called the MOO Wave.

  • they are like background singers

  • I understand that, but I meant why "cows" ?

  • I always though when he screamed it was because the paint burned his eyes.
