Check out my homepage for further experiments using laser. There are several easy to do examples to split the beam, modulate on of the two and then recombine them to produce low frequency beats. These beats should be able to induce currents into the body to transmit sound or steer muscles if used with high power lasers. You dont even need a laser, this can be done with ordinary light and heat radiation as well. The double slit experiment mostly is done with an ordinary light source.

People, Mythbusters limited their designs to materials that were available to the ancient Greeks. The ancient Greeks didn't have proper mirrors, the best they had was polished metal, which isn't nearly as good at reflecting light.
@cpdonald We really don't know for sure or not rather the Greeks had discovered melted sand coated with silver nitrate or not. We didn't just discover science and technology 100 years ago, man was just as intelligent then as he is now.
@Fentanyl3 the problem whit that vision is that we havnt found anything orbiting in space so peole couldn't go to space back than. there are no electric cables found nor a generator. they might have been able to fly in america whit parashutes. but you can be sure that electricity isn't from the time of the greeks. they where able to make glass. the midages was just a time of repression and almost no technologic advancements .
I always knew this was possible. I lost faith in Mythbusters when they failed at making it. Mainly because they left out the whole 'science' element that goes into creating such a thing.

It's hard to make a square mirror fit a concave surface, I see your first band of mirrors are smaller, mind of I ask what you did to make the larger mirrors fill in to tightly, please? How did you prepare the fiberglass surface, and what kind of glue you used, please?
This is awesome!!! I was thinking of getting a parabolic mirror to reflect the sun into my dingy dark bedroom as it can't get the morning sunrise, but seeing it's gonna concentrate the rays n burn shit, I'll have to opt for a standard large mirror
Remember it will only burn stuff at the focal point. Any closer or further away and it will not burn things. You still have a good and practical idea.
Isn't that in Spain where they focus mirrors onto a tower that has a blok of salt at the top of which they use to then turn water into steam off. I'm just going from memory here I could be wrong.
You really shouldn't be holding that with your hand. Even if your not burning it the suns rays are much more concentrated in that area, and im sure it isnt healthy for your skin and could give you skin cancer.(a higher chance)
if the object you try to heat is black then it will absorb more energy, and so for example you will have more difficulty buring anything that is white or clear. Good job though!
Nice job guys. Watch the eyes. Amazing the free energy that's out there. Now just find something to follow the sun to capture the energy all day long.
Its a converted "offset" satellite dish. Offset dish reflectors have their focal point off to the side, ( have you noticed disgital satellite feedhorn position ?) same concept. benefits of offset is that LNB or in this case food, does not block sunlight.
Was that a 30" dish? Looked like it might have been larger then my 18". I'd really like to find some heat pipes that would work for the focal point. Solder them into a copper block at the focal point, or something with a good surface area for capturing the energy.
each gram of water is heated up by one calorie of energy. Measure the amount of water and the starting temp. Juxtapose it to the amount of time it takes to get it to 100 celcius and you can find the power out put.
Nice grassroots experiment with a parabolic solar oven to demonstrate the basic concept of solar energy intensification.
As a note could anyone calculate how much energy it takes to boil an 8 ounce can if water like that? If you divide that by the time, you can calculate the exact power of that rather small device.
My Neighbor has the old-school huge dish in his yard... wonder how quickly that could work.. bet you could heat a barrel in a few minutes with a bit of tweaking on a larger scale.
Hi! You mentioned that "My Neighbor has the old-school huge dish in his yard... wonder how quickly that could work.. bet you could heat a barrel in a few minutes with a bit of tweaking on a larger scale." in a bit entitled "Death Ray" where a 30-inch-or-larger parabolic mirror was being used to boil water, heat food, etc. Since I'm on the lookout for possible solar focusing, would you let me know what you mean - that your neighbor has, that maybe would do well in that kind of application. Thanks!
What kind of mirror pieces are they? Just little squares?

Nice work... Works good. You can heat water, for steam engine, or a Stirling would be even better.
You might try using reflective mylar or something similar and glue it to the dish. might give more output with a nearly perfectly smooth surface.
