Frank also had American records from 2 miles to the Marathon as well, and also has two Olympic medals to back those up. He was mighty impressive in his day. Also, his worst Oly performance was 5th place- only one place behind Pre's best performance. He was also US CC champ several times, too. I think there is a strong case for Shorter.

@bigplayer204 Actually, Lasse Viren was never proven to have doped. There were several Finnish athletes that had been caught, but Viren was not one of them. Unfortunately, the actions of a few tainted anyone from Finland who performs well. I have trained with several Finnish runners, and they are hard workers, and are methodical in their training approaches. They also have a long tradition and pride going for them! Sisu!

He was a great athlete but on a ethical scale he didn't run as fairly as other runners like Pre for example. He had great technique in his use of bend mathematics in his race though.

I recently severely sprained my ankle. I tore ligaments and really damaged it badly. I am currently still recovering, I am a loyal runner, and have a competitive spirit, I have been longing to run for days, but my ankle prohibits me from doing so. Watching this video, it really made me think. I am going to work harder than I ever have to make sure I am ready for track season. Thank you for posting this video. However I'm working hard to get back into shape and I'll be competing in some meets unattached. I've got unfinished business out there on that track, and I'm gonna go finish it.

This video brings a tear to my eye. Ever since I watched without Limit in 2002, I imagine myself being prefontaine in every race. This led me to run the first lap of my 800 in 53 seconds (Olympic pace) and hang on to finish in fourth place for my high school.
@hamxc29. Actually its not a record. If i pull(my pr) 4:47 and kept that pace for six miles I would have a 27:22. So its possible. Especially for a freshman that has been running since second grade. I know girls that can do it. Anyways my point is... Don't go around getting mad just because someone believes something other than you or has a separate opinion. He expended too much energy during the race when he should have just settled in like Viren did and waited for the right time to make a move. You can see in the last 20m of the race that Pre had nothing left. He gave everything he had without the fear of failure and he only wanted the Gold. You have to respect him for keeping the pace honest.

@hamxc29. Actually its not a record. If i pull(my pr) 4:47 and kept that pace for six miles I would have a 27:22. So its possible. Especially for a freshman that has been running since second grade. I know girls that can do it. Anyways my point is... Don't go around getting mad just because someone believes something other than you or has a separate opinion.
