A digital meter can't respond quickly to fields. As we seem to be wanting to sense magnetic field in the 5-20 Hz region, only fast response devices will reliably pick up ghost frequencies. Led readouts are necessary.
Its very easy to shield a K2. Just wrap aluminum screening around it. You can tape it together. The screen will screen most any RF radiation, but don't put it in the microwave oven, please. Do the test, with, without. Simple.
We have had cell phone interference with the Mel. During on of the investigations we were getting strange emf readings every time one of the investigators got a text. Took us a while to make the connection.
Hi, Ron here from ectoparanormal. I tried the same test. The two way radio made the K-II meter go off. But when i put my phone there and had somebody call my phone. The K-II meter did not go off. Could it be the carrier. As i have at&t. Even when i text it still does not go off. I know the K-II meter is working. When i put it next to a electrical source it works. Really strange.
Thank you for the video, I was curious to know the answer to this question because I was just watching ghost hunters and you could hear the interference from a cell phone on the audio for the show while a K2 meter was lighting up and those douches were trying to say it was responding to them. >_>
I bought a Mel-Meter and also used it along side a K-2 during investigations. The K2 seems to be more "active" The Mel-Meter hardly budged... I wonder how much I missed by just using the Mel by itself???
Have you seen the one Mel-Meter and K2 that somebody combined together? It seems like a good idea...Digital read-out from the Mel, lights from K2, Navigator lights on side of it, temperature sensor too!
@ejspinn Yeah I agree. I'm not liking the Mel Meter at all and I'm especially not liking all these "all-in-one" device. I think it's always better to go with individual specialized device that excel in a single area opposed to multiple.
I like to use the Mel for sweeps like at the beggining of a investigation, you know... see where the EMF hot spots are, also to get the baseline temp of area investigated. It is great for that, from what i seen. For use of a tool to communicate (ie K-2) it is a little more difficult. We had the temperature change on request, even taking it to a number we stated! I do like the combined tools feature, seems like I never have enough hands, LOL
Well done good demo of the limitations of the KII

Thank you so much Bill. You just solved a dilemma from last night's investigation !! I sensed this was the case.

I found this out the hard way. Whenever I do an investigation I ALWAYS turn on and my team turn off their phones.
I was investigating one night and was getting spikes on the K2 and Mel Meter and after a little investigation into it it turned out to be my iPhone.
Your cell is always looking for a signla so that when it's time to make a phone call it's good to go or even use the net etc.
Whenever it threw out a search it spiked the meters.

Hmm, very interesting.
I have a question: Is it possible to have spikes in a K2 while at the same time an EMF reader close by records nothing??
I thought they would be able to record the same thing, but that was not the case from what I saw (refer to my video for details).
Let me know what your thoughts are! I am trying to come up with some logical explanation for the observations.
Thanks!

Hi S,
If the MEL METER is in high speed mode it will pick up EMF from phones etc, but the KII is more sensitive to false positives (in my opinion).

How much you missed or how many false readings from the K-2? Ala Taps.

@ejspinn The Mel blows the k2 out of the water
