A great cover version by one of the few country singers I like. I saw him sing "Kiss An Angel Good Morning" during one of the recording sessions for the "Country Family Reunion" series of videos at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville in the summer of 2001. I wrote to him afterward and he sent me an autographed picture which is hanging on my "Wall of Fame" at home.
I never knew until just know that Charley sang this song. Nice version. Although I'm still partial to Johnny Rivers' version with the great harmonica, but this is much better than the original by Harold Dorman.
One of the best songs ever recorded by one of the best entertainers of all times right up there with names like red sovine conway twitty hank williams & so on
This is just a good song, and Charley does right by it. Johnny Rivers had a hit with it because it is a good song. Harold Dorman wrote it and hit with it first in 1960.
My only complaint is that this has been rerecorded, like many of the artists have done. And, my opinion is the original is much better. Unfortunately, the original is not on you tube, it appears.
@bpotter53029 .. to bpotter53029 - It is the same exact voice track, - just they dubbed in and added some more instruments to it. I have both tracks & I'm not that paticular, they both sound great to me.
He is just the best, my man I am not afrade to say I am 66 and he turnes me on every time!!!!!! he is the TOP-man. be I saw him once in England may- be 23years since. God bless you , come to see your fans in the UK soon please pretty please LOVE .LOVE XXXXX.
this is a cool version, I really dig Pride's vocal inflection (country twang) on this song. Makes it really unique from the Johnny Rivers version, which is also good
one of my favorite songs. i met him at my uncles ranch many moons ago. my uncle owned a huge night club in oklahoma and i raised quarter horses when i got older for some country stars. godbless from toms quarter horse ranch.
Charlie Pride has set a high standard of excellence in all his string of hit songs, his mass appeal to all races is a testament to his staying power as a classy country singer.
you are all very correct! Charlie Pride has always been my favorite singer. Other kids made fun of me when I was in junior high because when they asked my favorite singer, I would say charlie pride instead of trying to conform.
It's great to see and read how so many have experienced the wonder of Charlie Pride's songs growing up as kids as I did. I teach school now but for years I drove a truck and would put in one of his tapes I found and would play those songs to my soul's contentment. He's always been one of my favorites. Got to go to a Ranger's playoff game this year and Charlie sang our national anthem. What an honor!
Charley Pride sure knows how to sing! He is one of the greatest singers out there, regardless of what color skin he has. Thank you for comingout and being one of the greatest there is.
@scoobydoo535 If you really feel that way as far as him being a great singer, why was the issue of skin color even mentioned? You covert racist white folks kill me. You might as well have typed "that nigger sure can sing."
@speakwhnspkn2 I am not racist, I am simply stating he is a great singer. I have several favorite singers, black and white, and if racism is an issue with you then maybe you need to find someone else to balk at. Skin color is not an issue where I stand and I would appreciate not being called anything but called anything but a great fan of Charley Pride.
@speakwhnspkn2 Thank you. It really burns me when I get judged for something like a comment. I have grown up on rock and roll before getting into country and always enjoyed songs by the greatest singers of the time, and after hearing Charley Pride for the first time I really got into it. Nowadays we have him and others like Darius Rucker (formerly of Hottie & The Blowfish) to enjoy jamming to on the radio.
I used to listen to Charley when I was growing up. My dad had at least one of his albums, and I was oblivious to race issues at that time. All I knew was it was good music. Looking back, I see he had so much more than I knew, and I can better appreciate the power of his music. As a person who likes all kinds of music, Charley is one of the best for soothing the soul and lifting spirits. Very few compare.
I have very many fond memories of this song! It was popular when I lived in Miami as a kid~ 8 yrs old, in 3rd grade~ I heard this song EVERY morning before I went to school! Such awesome memories!!!!
The legendary Charlie Pride broke all kinds of barriers for artist, he proved that you don't have to wear a cowboy hat and a phony belt buckle to sing great true genuine real Country Music...hear this Brad Paisley ? ?
Students: Taylor Swift and many more to numerous to mention that needs to learn what REAL down home, foot tappin', sing-a-long, good feelin' Country Music, is! take notes class in session!
Charlie had great a album out in the 1970's called There's a Little Bit of Hank in Me. Sure would like to get a hold of it. He sang all Hank Williams songs on this album. The picture of Charlie above was on the front of the album. Anybody own it?
Charlie Pride is one of the most beloved Country crooner there is! His down home, cotton choppin', greens a chewin', turn row dancin music is joyful to listen to!! Love it!!
I was never able to actually see these albums coming out. Being in my 20's I appreciate this music very much and hope I can carry on these great songs in years to come.
Wonderful song, one of the best country songs ever recorded. And Charley Pride is a class act. Wish there were more like him recording now, as well as great songs like this one.
My grandpa used to listen to this a lot.. Hadn't heard it sense until it was on that classic country music station on TV. Love it! Went searching for it and now I found it! Thank you so much for putting this on here! One of my fave songs now!
Mom & Dad must have every LP & Cassette Charlie Pride ever put out!
Even to this day we buy his "Best OF" CDs. Wonderful artist IMHO and it was Dad who I used to drive around with & listen to Charlie on his cassettes in his car! :-)
Charley Pride was and continues to be a great favorite country music singer of mine. Thank you Charley for your great singing and person that you are. May God Jehova bless you!!!!
Hey, I found the original from 1982 here on You Tube. Mazxxx50 posted it. You'll hear the difference, and recognize it as the original with no problem. Check it out! By the way, no offense intended to the person who posted this version.
The original is elsewhere on You Tube. If you take the time to find it, it's well worth it. By the way, I have no problem with companies packaging remakes, but when they don't have the class to mention it on their packaging (not even in small or fine print) then it's nothing more than a ripoff. Which was why I went back to the store and got my refund.
This is a remake. This is not the version that we heard on the radio when it came out. I got fooled by this once; I bought a tape of Charley Pride's hits, and they were all remakes. I returned it to the store and got my money back. I like originals of songs, not remakes. I felt ripped off. This is probably from that same album. I love Charley Pride, but I want to hear the original recording, not some remake. But if you liked it, that's fine. But I am not fooled that easily.
Hey 19gar. I used to also listen to this on an eight track player in my family's bailer!!! Hot summer's in Montana and Charlie Pride. Ah, the good ole' dayz.

I might need to clarify myself. Charley Pride is what america is all about-- get to know us you just might fit in. We all came from other places but we all want the same thing--peace and harmony. I look at him as a hero but he sure can sing what d'ya say.
Amen!!!!!!!!!! One of the greatest country singers! Proof ya dont have to be white to be a redneck/soutyherner/country boy/ COUNTRY SINGER!!!!!!! God Bless you Charlie!
I know what you mean: My uncle was his manager, and we got all his 8-Tracks -listened to 'em all in the car on Summer road trips. We went backsatge and met him at the Mid-South Coliseum in 1970, when I was 12! My uncle died this year, and Ronnie Milsap sang at his funeral.
A great cover version by one of the few country singers I like. I saw him sing "Kiss An Angel Good Morning" during one of the recording sessions for the "Country Family Reunion" series of videos at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville in the summer of 2001. and with 12 speakers blowing out this song.
Gotta love it. Some of the foreigners loved it, when I explained he was a black country singer, they were amazed.

I might need to clarify myself. Charley Pride is what america is all about-- get to know us you just might fit in. We all came from other places but we all want the same thing--peace and harmony. I look at him as a hero but he sure can sing what d'ya say.

he does it with so little effort.
I guess all great performers make it look easy to those of us that can't sing a lick.
