My family is from Cuba, my mother was a refugee. I was the first of my family born in the U.S. This video sickens me. It represents well what the average tourist will see of Cuba, it does not show what the average Cuban citizen is forced to endure. Life in Cuba today remains abhorrent.
I agree that the video is misleading, and does not show the real Cuba, but when you compare Cuba with it's neighbors, like Jamica, Haiti, Mexico, Dominican Republic, the Cuban has a better life with respect to health and education. But there needs to be some change.

Cuban citizens can't stay at a hotel, Cubans can't own private property, Cubans can't even own a cell phone. Sure under Raul's leadership tourist areas are becoming open to Cubans and cell phones can now be purchased, but this is basically Raul poking fun at the Cuban people because they just can't afford it. A Physical Therapist(US 56000/yr) making 400 national pesos a month cannot even afford a cell phone. Why? Because the money is spent on food and clothes and there isn't any money left.

I am very much aware of what the US has done to Cuba I hope you are also aware of what 50 years of a totalitarian dictatorship have done to Cuba. Platanorico, CASTRO WAS NOT ELECTED. He took over by force after Batista left the island on Jan 1, 1959. Castro then proceeded to execute 15,000 men and imprison many more to solidify his power.
In all subsequent "elections" he has been the ONLY CANDIDATE.

China during its early years was a very threatened country. There were border disputes with the Soviet Union and conflicts (such as Korea) with the US, which had its military very near to China. How anxious did Americans get about missiles in Cuba? The Chinese lived with those kinds of threats from both the US and the Soviet Union. For that matter, how do ordinary Cubans feel about US meddling in their nation's affairs? Given US support of shiekhs, shahs, and dictators, what makes Fidel special?

The Chinese really resent the Japanese, for WWII. Mao fought against Japan and helped kick them out. Also, read up on the Opium Wars, when Britain and other Western countries tried to force drug addiction on the Chinese. Mao also got rid of feudalism and things like female foot-binding. China was living like in the Middle Ages before Mao took over. He made mistakes and even crimes, but he also made some progress. Americans should strive to see a complete picture.

My family is from Cuba, my mother was a refugee. I was the first of my family born in the U.S. This video sickens me. It represents well what the average tourist will see of Cuba, it does not show what the average Cuban citizen is forced to endure. Life in Cuba today remains abhorrent.

I agree that the video is misleading, and does not show the real Cuba, but when you compare Cuba with it's neighbors, like Jamica, Haiti, Mexico, Dominican Republic, the Cuban has a better life with respect to health and education. But there needs to be some change.
