I am Lithuanian but after your words, that we don't have landscape, I realised that you really were not in Lithuania :) And even in Vilnius. We have such a huge and fascinating nature. I can assure that it is 10 times bigger than in America (I do not talk about the size of it, of course).
If you are coming to Lithuania next time, write me :) I think after a second journey around it you willl change you mind radically :)
Those ugly, big blocks of barren apartment buildings are from the horrid and oppressed SOVIET years, when the Russians brought their UGLY, standardized architecture to Lithuania. Thank GOD the Russians are gone, the Soviet Union has been broken apart, and Lilthuania is once again a free and independent country.
I think you are great! And you have the chance to travel for free.. C'est Génial! PS: I leave in Switzerland... I am going on a World tour next month.. I am so exited to see the world like you did!
Oh, and by the way. I went to Moscow, Russia, a couple of years ago. And when I saw suburbs there, even I was shocked, despite that I live in Vilnius and see something similar every day. So I completely understand that you were shocked when you saw all this in Vilnius.
I just found those videos. Man, you really don't have to explain yourself, just because some people misunderstood you. As far as I remember, you said that people are very attractive in Vilnius, there are a lot of Mercedes and BMWs and it looks like they have much more money than people in Poland:) And that's really pleasant to hear. And I completely understand that you were shocked by Vilnius' suburbs, you don't have that kind of buildings in America or in Western Europe.
And once again.. hearing words "we have completely different type of suburb buildings".. Well I could respond to that.. What? African-American ghettos? Shitty houses, slums, thugs and stuff.. Now that's no less shocking, even worse I'd say. Anyway.. don't pick those Soviet-style suburbs as the picture of Lithuania. I hate them myself, I wish I could root them out and throw em back to Russia.. but, you know. I just try to kinda ignore it, and look what's good. I love the central part ;)
I think you completely misunderstood my point. Ismok gi angliskai. Pasakiau, kad nekenciu sovietiniu pastatu. Nejuokauk tu, myliu Lietuva per amziu amzius!!
Well. You can't argue that the word crap has a very negative connotation. Anyways. You did not criticize, you're right, but you made pretty crude generalizations. That's where criticism comes from. I can definitely see that you didn't go to right places and you picked exactly what most expect..typical Soviet style-Eastern European style.Next time go to Trakai,go to Nida, go to Gedimins castle! You surely don't have such things in America. Theyd definitely startle you, though not like those houses
Keep that in mind. An for your Swiss part. You know..I could go to Bern and, instead of filming the Alps and nice places, go straight to Serb immigrant places and get some photos and start commenting: oh geeezz.. i thought Switzerland is a nice place.. and now.. it's so horrendous.. shocking.. geez. how can people live there. But yeh.. it's up to you, what you want see and how deep you see the stuff. It's just sad that you present very stereotypical picture of our country. That's it. Peace man.
Dude.. you seem to have the right mind. BUT, your comments seem to be really american/western european, indeed. That is the thing that you're so narrow-minded that all the churches in Vilnius look crap for you, you don't bother to look deeper into the history and architechture. For instance, have you ever hear about St.Ann church? Do you know that Napoleon dreamt to bring it straight from Vilnius to Paris. Also.. your ghettos in US look way crapier than those soviet-house districts.
I think that everyone tends to misinterpret words quickly...first impressions are just that, first impressions. I was never criticizing just observing. And I never said America was better! Id much rather be traveling or in Vilnius than in the US...
I have been to lithuania, seen the same sights and sounds too, you are entitled to comment as you wish, thats the whole point of subjectivity and my favourite thing about youtube.....You and I both know now that it will get better in these countries, hopefully....
Keep travelling dude and keep posting, but back off on the repetative replies to those who may well have never even seen a plane...
???? "white toilet instead of pink" I have never seen a pink toilet in my life (o wait except the one upstairs!) What does this mean? Is there really a stereotype of Americans being shocked if they get a white toilet instead of pink? Hahaha that cracks me up...
pink toilet paper makes my bum pink...i prefer unscented, organic, environmentally friendly...hehe there are so many types of toilet paper! Friend, when I am traveling, I am thrilled to even HAVE toilet paper...I think you've read me wrong!
And one more thing - Lithuania is not in Eastern Europe. It's North Europe - go to Wiki, go to Google Analytics if you don't believe me. For americans - they know two Europes - good one (London, Paris, Rome - all knowledge of typical american about Europe) and post soviet Eastern Europe - ugly, dirty and BAD. time to change way of thinking, man.
And that, my friend, is why I travel. If more Americans would do the same, they would also have the chance to confront and possibly change stereotypes that have been ingrained in them unknowingly.
Ok, my friend, I wish you good luck in your further travels. Sorry If I was a bit too sensitive yesterday :) I really like your videoblogs. keep it up!
by-the-way... "Crap" is definitely english - after the english plumber Thomas Crapper who helped develop the flushing toilet (water closet), hence: go to the crapper, take a crap etc.

What, Vilnius-soviet architecture???
It is not even close.
It is an old city build waaay before soviet union,
so only part of it was built in soviet times.
