Annoying fads are soon forgotten and what remains in your memory, or what you discover when you explore music from a generation before your own, is that 1%.

If you compare all the great music produced over several decades with the music produced in recent memory(months...) it always looks a train wreck.

Nowhere is that more true than in the multi-layered music of ELO, Alan Parsons, the Moody Blues, the Beatles, the BeeGees, and Genesis, to just name a few.
