@modernoverdrive Because a red flag stops the race...period. Suppose a guy hit the wall earlier in the race. Depending on the damage, it can take numerous laps to fix. If he was allowed to work on the car under the red flag, he wouldn't lose all those laps. So he could make a mistake, and if he gained 20 laps that he would have lost under the red flag, he could get back in the race.
kevin lepage has been hanging around in nascar for no reason. why does he get jobs? his high finish in nascar is like 25th and he's been around since nam.
First of all, Kevin Lepage is an idiot. We all know that. Second, I hate it how it took 2-3 replays until ESPN actually figured out what just happened. They thought it was unfortunate but he fucked up and wrecked half the field. Fox is so much better.
Carl Edwards was lucky that his car came back down after launching up into the air after making heavy contact with Kevin Lepage...that could have been a racing disaster for him.
Ouch, Carl hadrly bumped into Kevin Lepage (#61) during the big one. I'm assume that Kevin didn't know that after he mistakenly got out at 112 MPH out of line while Drivers going 195 MPH. Bad impact
There is a reason Carl Edwards, Kyle Bush, Jimmie Johnson, and such are in top-of-the-line equipment and able to contend for championships instead of having to worry about just making the race like Kevin Lepage... THIS is that reason.

NASCAR is naturally an exciting sport its excitment isnt "MANUFACTURED" when you put 43 STOCK cars to getther and let them beat it out thats what you get real action NASCAR has had excitment sinec it was first made there isnt nothing "MANUFACTURED" about the close finishes and 3 wide racing. there is no rule that say you better race 3 wide at all times. ther racing is natural. but you think it is some kind of a script. NASCAR is puire compitetion. its where the nations best dirt track next page-
in otherwords, in too many races, best drivers and cars simply cannnot shine in nascar due to the nature of oval and nascar rules. but since this's the only form of racing as a sport/entertainment that can survive in US where auto racing isn't all that popular, especially outside the South and Midwest, nascar drivers simply suck it up, shut their mouths and parcitipate in what's more of a reality TV show than a sport since this way they have a good paying gig as a professional driver, at least.
and you saying that NASCAR is NASCAR is the most popular acing sereies in AMERICA and people whatch nascar for a reason becuase its exicting. becuase its american cars dodge chevy ford etc and the definition of a STOCK CAR is a normal car modified to race. f1 is high tec thats the reason i dont whatch it i dont dream of going to f1 one day becuase thats only for "rich people" in NASCAR they are real heroes who race all the time and went up the ranks from there local short track and earned there
i've been saying all along that neither is better or worse, but they are just different in so many ways, especially how they work differently in one particular aspect - one works more as a straightforward sport aimed at global market, one works more as a fan friendly entertainment with more local, homegrown appeal to American stock car fans, mostly in the South.
im not talking about the markting bull crap im talking how he sports work. like the cars and shocks and and how there are differnt racing wise not market wise.
of course, there's huge difference between oval racing and f1 style racing, another DUH!
What we've been talking about mostly is how F1 works as more as a strightforward sport, which means that its aim is to privide a forum for teams (manufactureres) and drivers to showcase their talent and technology and create a league where the best combination of a driver and a car should win the championship, or at least get very close to winning.
What does annoy me a little about nascar is how nascar keeps trying to market itself as a straightforward sport when in fact it is only a sport in a rather lose definition of the term.
In contrast to that, Nascar is mostly about providing entertainment for fans by artificially creating - through its rules and the nature of oval racing - what nascar fans perceive to be an entertaining spectacle, with consideration to provide a fair and neutral forum where best drivers and cars should shine over the others being a secondary concern for nascar. In F1, pure competition comes first and entertainment aspect comes second, which is how most sport leagues works.
That's why sport works differently from a reality TV show. They are both unscripted and "real," but the aim is different (sport is about competition first and entertainment second, and the opposite applies for a reality TV show). F1 is a sport but Nascar is treading closer to the territory of a reality TV show with a label of auto racing competition than sport. It's like how you can't really take that ABC TV show Dancing with the Stars seriously as a real dancing competition. Do you see it?
drivers and other drivers go to race no one could afford to pay to race 70 million in formula one, just becuase of that half of the open wheel drivers cant race in F1 vecuase there not "RICH" you tell me thats pure compitetion you cant even get the best drivers. and reality tv aint even real only COPS is real all these others shows like this flavor of love or farmer wants a wife bull crap its fake its MANUFACTURED drama. and nascar has had 45 races before in the early 70's its schedule nextpage-
IF i was a person back i the day and i wanted to race i didnt race becuase i wanted to entertain somebody it was becuase i wanted to make a living and put food on the table. your comparing auto racing to hollywood wich is dumb ther 2 very different things. and why you think F1 is more a sport than NASCAR those guys dont even care about racing exept juan pablo montoya who went to nascar becuase he wanted to race and pass cars because in F1 you cant becuase everone dont have 70 million dollars.
geez, you're horribly misinformed about both Formula One and Nascar. What I've been telling you is the absolute unbiased truth. and if somebody like Tony Stewart were to write a book about Nascar after his association with Nascar is over, he'll tell you exactly the same.
judging from how poorly you write and argue, you'll probably never understand it. this was amusing, though. Ciao.
You seem to be the wine tasting type. Nothing more than a pseudo-intellectual who seems to get a giddy thrill over trying to assert his intellectual dominance over the 'lesser' people. In layman terms, you're a 'snob'. F1 is probably one of the more overrated sports that I've ever watched, simply because most F1 fans I've encountered seem to be on par intellectually with NASCAR fans. (cont'd.)
Both sets of fans seem to believe that their motorsport is the absolute greatest, and would rather spend their time pointlessly pointing out the flaws of eachother's sport instead of actually attempting to watch the sport that they seem to know so well. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, nobody asked you your opinion on this form of auto racing, and you're giving intellectuals a bad name by stupidly claiming that one form of racing is superior to the other.
You've just responded to what you erroneously thought I wrote instead of what I actually wrote. What I wrote here was mostly an explanation on why NASCAR is more of an entertainment program than a sport, which I found amusing since some NASCAR fans do genuinely seem to believe that NASCAR is a sport in the same vein as F1 or MLB. But I've never claimed that which is superior or inferior since such comparison would be about as meaningful as debating the relative merit of apple vs. orange.
go respond to somebody else, tard, since i can comment on anything i like just as you can. besides, i'm not the one who started the discussion. i was simply responding to some nascar junkie.
hah, you don't know what everyone thinks about me since you're not a fucking god, and i know only two kinds of people who calls some anonymous username over the internet a fag: closet fags and guys with small dicks, MANLYgannly. lol

do you think a basketball game between the Harlem Globetrotters and Washington Generals is more interesting to watch than a NBA game because there're more scorings and dunks than a regular NBA basketball game just as there're more silly and cheap overtakings in nascar than in F1? btw, f1's not my sport, mr. faggy manlygannly. i just know how f1 and nascar work.
p.s. i think i am starting to enjoy toying with a pathetic redneck. it probably is not as enjoyable to you. lol
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
wow, impressive that you know the word "stereotype," hah. anyway, kidding aside, dude, i've never try to argue whether f1 or nascar is more fun to watch since that's subjective. what i wrote here was about how nascar sits between an entertaiment like WWE and a sport like MLB or F1; thus making nascar different from a regular sport. check out the article titled "tony's tirade could change nascar" on msnbc, if you doubt. and there're nascar drivers' quotes to that effect on the net, too.
But I've never gotten into the whole conspiracy theory stuff dealing with sports. Especially with motorsports, where a guy's tire could get cut down, or he could get caught up in a wreck.
It's hard to believe that guys column, but it made me think.
. in F1 they dont pay attention to "FAIR competition" becuase thos guys be spendind like 60 million on those damn f1 cars come on and NFL isnt fair thats why they try to use "SALARY CAPS" to prevent rich teams from winning and getting good people becuase there a rich city.
The disparity between the teams that have and teams that don't is about the same as in Major League Baseball as in F1, or even in NBA or NFL to some degree, even with the cap in those two. Actually, top teams in F1 spend around 250-400 million. You need about 70 million minimum to get a F1 team going. The disparity is a big problem in F1 just as in MLB, and FIA has been trying to get the cost down and start some type of revenue sharing to decrease the gap.
If you think that's unfair, then you also have to say the same about MLB. But that's a different subject than what we've been talking about. The Yankees, Redsox, Patriots might win too much but that doesn't turn MLB or NFL into something like XFL or WWE. Also, as in MLB, in F1, money doesn't ensure the best result, as Toyota F1 didn't do very well despite spending most amount of money.
bluemonolith88 auto racing is real. its not a "game" like football or baseball basketball etc. so why are you comparing it to that. people loose there lives in auto racing its not a "game" its real. its not a script like pro wrestling.
auto racing is a sport, and i never said nascar is fixed or scripted. but it's true that the competition aspect in nascar is really watered down to MANUFACTURE close racing and be fan friendly. in that way, nascar is far closer to something like XFL or WWE than a "real" sport. but too many nascar fans just are too nationalistic with the Southern bias to see it through, and nascar takes full advantage of it by disguising half sport/half entertainment as a regular sport.
compare it to the XFL and WWE which isnt a sport its entertainment. people always get aoto racing mixed up with entertainment but when auto racing is real and not a "GAME" like football or basketball or things like that, which suppose to be "MANUFACTURED
When you combine the nature of oval racing with huge positive cambers, too many cars, many cautions where safety cars come out, overall NASCAR rules and how not so transparent they are in NASCAR, equally built cars as a sum, you have a very much watered down pure competition that greatly neutralizes driver skill and difference in cars. That's why NASCAR is closer to XFL or WWF from a pure competition perspective than F1.
f1's competition sucks it suck so bad they wish they had "MANUFACTURED" racing. they same guy wins like very week and like only 2 lead changes i mean what the hell is that and they get paid way to much money and they never speak to the media they just got to ther 20 million dollar homes.
In NASCAR - much like in WWE or XFL - it's the opposite. Fair and pure competition where the best driver/cars shine is almost an afterthought for NASCAR since their main and almost sole priority is to try to manufacture the kind of results and racing that will please NASCAR fans without actually fixing the outcome.
as far as how some people, especially people who're very loyal to nascar, complain that F1 is boring is concerned, it's mostly because they don't really "get" F1. You know, many people who go mad for F1 in Europe, also complain that NASCAR is hopelessly boring because they go around the same oval track over and over again in low-tec cars. As far as entertainment value is concerned, it's a subjective matter.
its not ovale its D-shapes and theres TRI-oval and theres "bull rings" and theres road courses like watlklins glen and sonoma. and i do get F1 to a point they showed the canadian grand pri on FOX and theyall the time on speed.
when i said "same all" oval, i was just pointing out the fact that MOST nascar races take place on oval tracks (with subtle variations, of course).
As far as Fox and Speedvision's F1 coverage go, they are just horrible. If you can, try watching few iTV or BBC coverage, you'll have far better idea how F1 works. Sort of like American Football, F1 is very technical, the most technical sport in the world.

I'm sick and tired of people trying to compare NASCAR to F1!!!!

and you saying that NASCAR is NASCAR is the most popular acing sereies in AMERICA and people whatch nascar for a reason becuase its exicting. becuase its american cars dodge chevy ford etc and the definition of a STOCK CAR is a normal car modified to race. f1 is high tec thats the reason i dont whatch it i dont dream of going to f1 one day becuase thats only for "rich people" in NASCAR they are real heroes who race all the time and went up the ranks from there local short track and earned there
e521soediv 3 years ago
i've been saying all along that neither is better or worse, but they are just different in so many ways, especially how they work differently in one particular aspect - one works more as a straightforward sport aimed at global market, one works more as a fan friendly entertainment with more local, homegrown appeal to American stock car fans, mostly in the South.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
im not talking about the markting bull crap im talking how he sports work. like the cars and shocks and and how there are differnt racing wise not market wise.
e521soediv 3 years ago
of course the cars are different, duh. i didn't bring it up because it's so obvious, dude.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
im not talking baout cars i menat style of racing. you trying to talk about how they are differen marketing wise.
e521soediv 3 years ago
of course, there's huge difference between oval racing and f1 style racing, another DUH!
What we've been talking about mostly is how F1 works as more as a strightforward sport, which means that its aim is to privide a forum for teams (manufactureres) and drivers to showcase their talent and technology and create a league where the best combination of a driver and a car should win the championship, or at least get very close to winning.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
What does annoy me a little about nascar is how nascar keeps trying to market itself as a straightforward sport when in fact it is only a sport in a rather lose definition of the term.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
what you mean by straitfoward sport?
e521soediv 3 years ago
that's what we been talking mostly talking about all this time. i don't think i can explain any better w/o like writing a whole article about it.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
In contrast to that, Nascar is mostly about providing entertainment for fans by artificially creating - through its rules and the nature of oval racing - what nascar fans perceive to be an entertaining spectacle, with consideration to provide a fair and neutral forum where best drivers and cars should shine over the others being a secondary concern for nascar. In F1, pure competition comes first and entertainment aspect comes second, which is how most sport leagues works.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
That's why sport works differently from a reality TV show. They are both unscripted and "real," but the aim is different (sport is about competition first and entertainment second, and the opposite applies for a reality TV show). F1 is a sport but Nascar is treading closer to the territory of a reality TV show with a label of auto racing competition than sport. It's like how you can't really take that ABC TV show Dancing with the Stars seriously as a real dancing competition. Do you see it?
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
drivers and other drivers go to race no one could afford to pay to race 70 million in formula one, just becuase of that half of the open wheel drivers cant race in F1 vecuase there not "RICH" you tell me thats pure compitetion you cant even get the best drivers. and reality tv aint even real only COPS is real all these others shows like this flavor of love or farmer wants a wife bull crap its fake its MANUFACTURED drama. and nascar has had 45 races before in the early 70's its schedule nextpage-
e521soediv 3 years ago
IF i was a person back i the day and i wanted to race i didnt race becuase i wanted to entertain somebody it was becuase i wanted to make a living and put food on the table. your comparing auto racing to hollywood wich is dumb ther 2 very different things. and why you think F1 is more a sport than NASCAR those guys dont even care about racing exept juan pablo montoya who went to nascar becuase he wanted to race and pass cars because in F1 you cant becuase everone dont have 70 million dollars.
e521soediv 3 years ago
geez, you're horribly misinformed about both Formula One and Nascar. What I've been telling you is the absolute unbiased truth. and if somebody like Tony Stewart were to write a book about Nascar after his association with Nascar is over, he'll tell you exactly the same.
judging from how poorly you write and argue, you'll probably never understand it. this was amusing, though. Ciao.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
no its not the truth becuase youve been telling me things that i have no idea what the hell youve got that from.
e521soediv 3 years ago
You seem to be the wine tasting type. Nothing more than a pseudo-intellectual who seems to get a giddy thrill over trying to assert his intellectual dominance over the 'lesser' people. In layman terms, you're a 'snob'. F1 is probably one of the more overrated sports that I've ever watched, simply because most F1 fans I've encountered seem to be on par intellectually with NASCAR fans. (cont'd.)
Interminater 3 years ago
Both sets of fans seem to believe that their motorsport is the absolute greatest, and would rather spend their time pointlessly pointing out the flaws of eachother's sport instead of actually attempting to watch the sport that they seem to know so well. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, nobody asked you your opinion on this form of auto racing, and you're giving intellectuals a bad name by stupidly claiming that one form of racing is superior to the other.
Interminater 3 years ago
You've just responded to what you erroneously thought I wrote instead of what I actually wrote. What I wrote here was mostly an explanation on why NASCAR is more of an entertainment program than a sport, which I found amusing since some NASCAR fans do genuinely seem to believe that NASCAR is a sport in the same vein as F1 or MLB. But I've never claimed that which is superior or inferior since such comparison would be about as meaningful as debating the relative merit of apple vs. orange.

ahh come on, your still commenting on this vid?
e521soediv 3 years ago
no one gives a shit about F1 here in the states.
Go comment on some other vid, tard. You know maybe F1 ones?! and leave this vid to NASCAR fans
manlygannly 3 years ago
go respond to somebody else, tard, since i can comment on anything i like just as you can. besides, i'm not the one who started the discussion. i was simply responding to some nascar junkie.

yeah, but no one wants you here fag.

hah, you don't know what everyone thinks about me since you're not a fucking god, and i know only two kinds of people who calls some anonymous username over the internet a fag: closet fags and guys with small dicks, MANLYgannly. lol

judging by all the names your getting called by theses people...I guess that means they want you here.
Since you love to do it so much, i think i will go and rain on your F1 vid parade. I may right a note like this on the comments...
Dear all F1 fans,
I've been more excited watching my dog take a shit than i ever will be watching an F1 race

Is that all you have? Hah, I'm so shocked and disturbed you don't personally like F1. lol. Btw, your comment is filled with even more than your usual amount of grammatical errors, Mr. Faggy Manlygannly. And it's called the error of hasty generalization. Look it up, Mr. Manlygannly. You know that some people don't want me here, not all of them -- not that I would care either way. Guess my previous comment kinda hit your soft spot. lol

It's awesome how you think your just fuckin hilarious with all those lol's.
And my username is manlygannly....i get it.
BTW, when was the last time a pass for the lead happened in your sport?

do you think a basketball game between the Harlem Globetrotters and Washington Generals is more interesting to watch than a NBA game because there're more scorings and dunks than a regular NBA basketball game just as there're more silly and cheap overtakings in nascar than in F1? btw, f1's not my sport, mr. faggy manlygannly. i just know how f1 and nascar work.
p.s. i think i am starting to enjoy toying with a pathetic redneck. it probably is not as enjoyable to you. lol
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
I live in Kansas city...and you think Im a redneck. It's pathetic how you stereotype anybody liking nascar as a redneck.
And NBA games are more fun to watch than the harlem globetrotters because NBA actaully has competition, something F1 has never heard about

wow, impressive that you know the word "stereotype," hah. anyway, kidding aside, dude, i've never try to argue whether f1 or nascar is more fun to watch since that's subjective. what i wrote here was about how nascar sits between an entertaiment like WWE and a sport like MLB or F1; thus making nascar different from a regular sport. check out the article titled "tony's tirade could change nascar" on msnbc, if you doubt. and there're nascar drivers' quotes to that effect on the net, too.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
I see what your saying, I went and read it.
But I've never gotten into the whole conspiracy theory stuff dealing with sports. Especially with motorsports, where a guy's tire could get cut down, or he could get caught up in a wreck.
It's hard to believe that guys column, but it made me think.

. in F1 they dont pay attention to "FAIR competition" becuase thos guys be spendind like 60 million on those damn f1 cars come on and NFL isnt fair thats why they try to use "SALARY CAPS" to prevent rich teams from winning and getting good people becuase there a rich city.
e521soediv 3 years ago
The disparity between the teams that have and teams that don't is about the same as in Major League Baseball as in F1, or even in NBA or NFL to some degree, even with the cap in those two. Actually, top teams in F1 spend around 250-400 million. You need about 70 million minimum to get a F1 team going. The disparity is a big problem in F1 just as in MLB, and FIA has been trying to get the cost down and start some type of revenue sharing to decrease the gap.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
If you think that's unfair, then you also have to say the same about MLB. But that's a different subject than what we've been talking about. The Yankees, Redsox, Patriots might win too much but that doesn't turn MLB or NFL into something like XFL or WWE. Also, as in MLB, in F1, money doesn't ensure the best result, as Toyota F1 didn't do very well despite spending most amount of money.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
to be honest i think there should be a limit on cup drivers in busch series...like 3-5 limit
Guy4423 3 years ago
bluemonolith88 auto racing is real. its not a "game" like football or baseball basketball etc. so why are you comparing it to that. people loose there lives in auto racing its not a "game" its real. its not a script like pro wrestling.
e521soediv 3 years ago
auto racing is a sport, and i never said nascar is fixed or scripted. but it's true that the competition aspect in nascar is really watered down to MANUFACTURE close racing and be fan friendly. in that way, nascar is far closer to something like XFL or WWE than a "real" sport. but too many nascar fans just are too nationalistic with the Southern bias to see it through, and nascar takes full advantage of it by disguising half sport/half entertainment as a regular sport.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
compare it to the XFL and WWE which isnt a sport its entertainment. people always get aoto racing mixed up with entertainment but when auto racing is real and not a "GAME" like football or basketball or things like that, which suppose to be "MANUFACTURED
e521soediv 3 years ago
When you combine the nature of oval racing with huge positive cambers, too many cars, many cautions where safety cars come out, overall NASCAR rules and how not so transparent they are in NASCAR, equally built cars as a sum, you have a very much watered down pure competition that greatly neutralizes driver skill and difference in cars. That's why NASCAR is closer to XFL or WWF from a pure competition perspective than F1.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
f1's competition sucks it suck so bad they wish they had "MANUFACTURED" racing. they same guy wins like very week and like only 2 lead changes i mean what the hell is that and they get paid way to much money and they never speak to the media they just got to ther 20 million dollar homes.
e521soediv 3 years ago
In NASCAR - much like in WWE or XFL - it's the opposite. Fair and pure competition where the best driver/cars shine is almost an afterthought for NASCAR since their main and almost sole priority is to try to manufacture the kind of results and racing that will please NASCAR fans without actually fixing the outcome.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
as far as how some people, especially people who're very loyal to nascar, complain that F1 is boring is concerned, it's mostly because they don't really "get" F1. You know, many people who go mad for F1 in Europe, also complain that NASCAR is hopelessly boring because they go around the same oval track over and over again in low-tec cars. As far as entertainment value is concerned, it's a subjective matter.
bluemonolith88 3 years ago
its not ovale its D-shapes and theres TRI-oval and theres "bull rings" and theres road courses like watlklins glen and sonoma. and i do get F1 to a point they showed the canadian grand pri on FOX and theyall the time on speed.
e521soediv 3 years ago
when i said "same all" oval, i was just pointing out the fact that MOST nascar races take place on oval tracks (with subtle variations, of course).
As far as Fox and Speedvision's F1 coverage go, they are just horrible. If you can, try watching few iTV or BBC coverage, you'll have far better idea how F1 works. Sort of like American Football, F1 is very technical, the most technical sport in the world.
