@spidey8vader I was at the NTAs when they did it and they brought it on stage covered in a red sheet. i think its preprogrammed into the console and all they have to do is keep it in the exact position and run it.

Tom Baker used to walk the streets in character. Jon Pertwee would do interviews in character, to the frustration of the interviewer.

Matt just wants to keep the audience happy- especially the kids who might see this and part of them would believe he's actually The Doctor. Good on him

No, its probably split screen. i.e. the right side of the screen was prerecorded and put over live tv, then, once the Tardis had appeared, they switched it to live! :)
