  • thats a great looking chassis you built. I would love to have welding skills like that so i could build me one..

  • @blakemeredith1984 nice comment :) best thing for you to do is to enrole yourself into a college program and learn to weld. this way you will be able to weld correctly and therefore trust your fabrication with your life.. :)

  • Just wondering, why did you use square tubing rather than round tubing?

  • @Elweenieloco I guess the simple answer is that most supplied chassis are made this way, typically 25mm by 25mm, my chassis uses 30mm by 30mm as the overall chassis is somewhat bigger than the standard and the wide body. its also easiler to weld and cut. :) thanks for your question

  • Nice build there!! Good tunes too! Is the car complete now?

  • @nitroratrod :) blues is very cool, the car is almost finished now, just got a few jobs left, but is running.

  • Love the music...! Good choice of sound.

  • @TheWolfzter :) cheers mate, I am a bit of a blues nut :)

  • Nice job... ;)

  • @1paweu :) many thanks :)

  • How much did this cost to make?

    Nice work looks excellent.

  • @Haltcom hello and thanks for your comment. the cost of the material was about £300, but dont forget thats just the beginning, you will still need a welinging machine, mask, grinder etc... plus make a bench to build on, and then there is everything else, I would say to finish one completely built by yourself, budget around £3000, over a period of a couple of years :)

  • @sixstringbiker GOOD GOOD GOOD

  • Great job!!..... is that a Sealey welder, you used?

  • @robinsoncrusoe55 :) hello, yes it is, its from their Pro range which is easily identified as they are red as appossed to their DIY range which are always yellow. The Red range are really good welder, Ive had this one from new for about 2 years now and its never let me down and is still on the first liner. its also well capable of welding 10mm in a single pass with superb penatration. Iuse 0.8mm wire to get improved local penatration over 1mm.

  • That's a beautiful work! Congratulations!

you seems to have a book with the drawing. Is it the ron champion's one?

it doesn't seems to be this design...

Did you made your own frame design?

i dream to make my own sportscar too, but I'm still looking for the best "value for money" chassis! and yours seems to be that one!

  • @damiensonet :) hello its not the Ron Champion book, but rather the Haynes roadster version, which is for a wide body when compared to the Ron Champion original. HOWEVER I used the book only as a very basic guide, as mine is wider longer and taller as its intended to be for touring, so more room needed. it does departs lots from the book, with sunked hand brake, pedelbox, triangulation and material, so I did make the chassis, suspention and body work myself, thanks for your great comment :)

  • are those seats out of a smart?

  • @rasmAn2 :) hello, absolutely correct and well spotted, they will be recovered in black faux leather which I have had tailor made :)

  • What is this song? Sounds great!

  • @marcojar93 not sure found it in the audio swap...cool groove though :)

  • Is dis frank zappa??

  • @Dominoes282 , not sure really...but it sounds great :)

  • man this is fuckn great. i'v always wanted to build ma own vehicle.i want to learn the same thing ,you are doing out there.man u gotta help me.im studying mechanical & motor vehicle eng & looking forward to follow some welding shit tell me man what i should do first.thnxx

  • @asatheman :) thanks for the great comment. you are studying the perferct thing to do this job and I will be happy to answer questions and help as much as I can with your project. Before you start..learn to weld properly, get on a night school, the build a perfectly flat and level bench, after that you follow my vids :)

  • @sixstringbiker can i have ur email address? this is mine

    asankasudeshana @ yahoo dot com

  • @asatheman :) of course, check your inbox for my email address :)

  • how do you get a manual kit for this??

  • @ryanlou14 well I used the haynes manual as a rough guide. but my chassis is bigger all round than the haynes, as my intention is to build a grand tourer (GT).

  • How do you support the engine or weld the mounts. I'm about to build a frame myself in few months.

  • @NorkiddExo Hello if you send be your email (via youtube mail) I will send you some close up pictures of the mounts and hopefully they will help :)

  • Cheap steel tubing spells disaster to me

  • @maoristereo hello, why do you think the steel is cheap??? this method of construction is at the very heart of most modern kit cars, whether that be home built or from a manufacturer. the two main players, caterham and westfield, use the exact same spec to produce their chassis but with a 25mm by 25mm section, mine is 30mm by 30mm section. its the design that gives strength, where triangulation is key. I think you should read up on modern techniques and structual engineering :)

  • is the chassis your own design if so how do you get it insured? and how do you get a kit car insured anyway?

anyway really nice works and some really really good welds. : )

  • @FlyHighRC386 :) the chassis is basical a haynes but stretched in every direction to form a much bigger chassis, so I also upgraded the steel work from 25mm box to 30mm box section, I designed in more triangulation, and increased the wall thickness of all suspension parts. because the chassis is taller, I design in the handbrake below the tunnel line. specialist kitcar insuraner will have no problem covering me, its all about passing the IVA test..then its good to go..thanks for you comments :)

  • This is beautiful...nice work....cool music too

  • @knikula :) hey thanks very much :) the build is progressing well and stage 3 will be posted in a few weeks covering springs, gear linkage, drive shaft, brakes, pedal box, and induction..so keep looking...hope you feel that one day you just might build one yourself.. :) thanks for the great comment :)

  • your knowledge to constructions goes to a next super level. well done. This is more difficult that i imagine and see.

  • @kristalinos Thants a very kind thing to say :) ive been an engineer and a keen DIYer for many years and have done many jobs for a few friends, so thought it was time to do one for me. The chassis build does look complicated but its not really that difficult as long as you take your time and think a little in front of yourself.

  • @sixstringbiker . How can be sure that parts like, in the 1:07 will not have a failure on the road ?? bad material or something like that ?? and how you take maesures to cut and mig the parts in the 1:21 ?? there are many small parts together

  • @kristalinos hello :) the parts at 1:07 are profiled and then welded using carfully selected material, with the 'A' Plate made from 5mm steel plate. There is always the chance of bad material but this is true of all steel even the steel in production cars. However I am a engineer and an fully qualified welder. The parts on 1:21 require a jig to be made first and then welded together. hope this helps

  • very neat and tidy what is that book and does it hold the secrets to the chassis plan. by the way love the pocket rocket.

  • :) thanks...the other locost upload shows the chassis poxdercoated...hope you take a peep. The book is the haynes build a sports car manual..however, I used it only as a basic guide because I have built the car longer, wider and taller. I have also incresed the specification of the steel, added additional triangulation and made many modificational improvements too. I have just finshed making the pedal box and remote gear selector :) thanks for saying its a neat job...yay!!!

  • Nice work. I'm planning something similar myself. What is the music? I don't recognise I, but I love it!

  • thanks for the comment, I hope you do a project like this yourself...its a pretty cool gig knowing you built it all :) the track I actually found in the audio swaps right here...its a cool jam for sure :)

  • Most of the time I don't leave comments, but this one, well lets just say for still shots and a bitchen sound track I was more than entertained . If you have video footage I would like to see some. Good Job! .Thanks

    Gotcha Racing TV , USA

  • wow!!! what a great comment, thank you so very much. I dont have any video as yet but the latest news is that the chassis is away for shot blasting and powder coating and should be back monday or tuesday :) so time to spend a little time on the engine/gearbox this weekend. I have subbed/requesteded you so I can keeo you up to date :) Thanks so much once again...

I do have a video of me riding my R1 round Donington...good track too..:)

  • I really enjoyed that, thanks.

The music & the images went very well together as they each progressed.

    5*

  • hey :) glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for the rating too.

  • very impressed, looks like a lot more work than it first appears. Well done and good luck with the rest of the build. TOP JOB

  • Thanks so much :)... and you are right, its a hell of a lot of work, but worth it I guess, the chassis is well oversized too than even a wide body, its more of a Grand Tourer (GT) thing really...or a big Seven...I have the engine and box back in at the moment and only JUST finished making my engine mounts...:) yay... thats once again for your comment :)

  • :) thanks so much for you comment, this is just the start, long long way to go yet, but fingers crossed it will all be ok, bloody hard work and lots of it though, building the chassis is a major task but its fun too..hey, get yourself a welder and go for it man, I will help you along the way :)

  • you know what, i may take you up on that. im kind of a car guy myself.

  • any time buddy :)

  • see, awesome. man, you got to do what i want to do. kit cars are sweet bro. awesome. im very jealous. looks great. five stars for homemade kitcars.
