you should do a huge mountain that sits like 2 or 5 feet off the table and use the landing pad / walkways for fighting! Use wooden dowels for the structural support for the walk ways to the heat sinks. It sounds kickass. use a painted lave flow mat on the table maybe with some hard lava Islands. just my 2 cents :) Maybe use a cheap weight to keep the mountain solid.

i like the idea of taking a big piece of styrofoam board like 1 1/2 ft deep and then cut a big trench in it for the mountain part :)
