No one cares if Iceland dies. Iceland threw out American forces and withdrew from NATO before this crisis happened. They made their bed, now they must lie in it.

Iceland is still a NATO member and the American government withdrew their forces despite Iceland's objection.

That is exactly what I read in the news.
US and Iceland has a treaty that US is responsible for the security of Iceland.
US said it would still do this but did not need their forces stationed there for it.
US was on it knees begging for the ability to track USSR U-boats within their territory.
Iceland was kind enough to help the west.
