  • @Alwaysahandfulofyarn they do die b/c they have to go in boiling water to get the silk..

  • Guys, its worms.

  • I believe, silk can be produced without harming the silkworms. The cocoons are gatered after the moth emerged from it. It is called wild silk. Althought wild silk has different properties than mulberry silk it could be an alternative to animal lovers.

  • Yeah, NickBlackDin, I guess you're right, they would be in a sort of hibernation, makes me feel a bit better about it!

  • I never realised these poor creatures were boiled to get the silk, I so hope they can't feel pain like we do.

  • well a: inside the cacoon they are in a hybernation state/coma, so basicly it's like dieing in thier sleep.

also, the workers eat them as a snack after they are unraveled. (and apperently according to Biggy123445 they are also sold on the market too) so no waste, it's basicly like making lobster, only you are killing them in thier sleep rather then fully concius.

  • @arriesone not to worry, they die instently

  • Should eat them so there is no waste.

  • they are fried then packaged or sent fresh to the market

  • cool beans, problem solved. :)
