Can you tell the difference between a male or female when there about an inch big because I know that males have red and females don't but I don't want to buy another one and ending off being male please answer......
@MJWF11FAN........... its really quite hard to tell when there that small, the only thing that i found with mine was that the darker ones were more than likely the males but thats not gonna be accurate, it was the wee red bit on the claw that i always used to tell, even if its not red yet you can sort of see a wee patch where it will turn red.
@thejaymanification...... after all the young left the mother and were all free swimming/walking I took the mother out and put her in a separate tank, this is because not long after this stage the maternal instinct disappears and her baby's become snacks, also if you leave all the young in the same tank they are cannibalistic and start picking each other off, so the biggest, strongest survive.
@bisonhawk1......hey man,.aye a would say i was. although i only reared the one batch everything went to plan during the whole process and grew alot of the young up to full adult size which were ready to breed again to keep the cycle going, Pretty cool tho, just finding out i could have a constant supply of free tasty food if i wanted..
@runesick aye man, your basically controlling their water conditions and diet so you know exactly whats gone in to them, no crazy chemicals or shit like that eh.happy days
@jakechan99 hi there, the temp was roughly 25 degrees or 77 farenheight, i fed them a variety of differant foods, but to start with i just used fish flake food and algae wafers, but after a week or two i was chopping up bits of prawns and fish. they were too small to tell the sex here but once they get a little bigger the males have red on the claws and are slightly darker than the females.
nice video! i have a red claw of my own, and im thinking about getting it a partner. How do i tell their sex? and will the parents eat their babies?
