i have a 95 civic si, and whenever i go to shit into reverse is grinds, i often have to swing the shifter back and forth, or double clutch it.. does anybody on here know why?lol
@bojo101 I got a 96 hatchback and mine will grind also... i just have to haul back hard untill it clunks hard ( you know the sound when you hear it ) and it should work fine.... also my friends 98 si does it also.... but my car got about 180k kilometers... how many does yours have?
you didnt have to remove your wheel rotor,or your lower ball joint, its usually the top ball joint and the pin on the shift linkage isnt the side one its located in the bottom . and you dont have to drain the transmission
I'm curious as well whether it's possible to leave the driver's side wheel on, as I'll be doing my own clutch soon. Love the cupcake-pan idea for keeping the bolts organized, brilliant!
A tip for getting the camera to focus in low-light is to zoom in (optical zoom) and then back out right away. Somehow it "tricks" the auto-focus lens into focusing faster.
I like the way you talking, like chatting with a friend.
I wonder if you could answer me a question:
In the video, I can see the driver side wheel is still on, so you did not remove the driver side driveshaft? Was it difficult to remove the transmission while the driveshaft was still in? It seems the clearance is very tight.

Actually you can do doughnuts in a front wheel drive you just have to put the E-Brake on when you get a little speed and then the back wheels lock up and you turn the front wheels to either direction and keep going and it will make the car stop and the front tires will spin and pull the direction the are turned!
I love fishing and I drive Honda Manual , But my clutch is still OK for now It is still very high , I think almost brand new Nice video Great Job you are the Man
just so everyone knows. you dont have to take the brakes off, you dont have to take the axle out of the hub to drop the tranny. just take the castle nut off of the lower balljoint and raise it, and just moving the hub assembly gives you enough room to get the axle out of the tranny. and it saves about 2 hours of work.
hey by the way u dont need to take the brake rotor off... and the pickle for all u need to do is pop up the balljoint... very nice clutch pile tho aha.
@britchez The procedure is basically the same for all older civics/accords. You might be able to get at the clutch without completely removing the transmission. But it's unlikely.
@jjmax2007 meh, like a week, mostly due to waiting on parts. I have done it to a few hondas since. I'm still pretty slow and takes me the whole day. But other youtubers have given me some good tips to try next time.
Hey..maybe I should ask you...I have a 96 Honda Civic as well..and the problem is my clutch or whatever else the name to it. When I go from 1st to 2nd gear, majority of the time it pops out of 2nd gear ONLY..and when I do go from 2nd, after I get it into 2nd gear if I'm lucky, to 3rd gear it makes a weird, I guess a grinding-like noise. But all the other gears are fine. Any ideas what's going on here?! Thanks for your time.
@REnFCB4Life Sounds like you might have bad synchronizers. They help match the speed of the input and output shafts so it's easier to get in gear. When they are failing your honda will often popout of gear. Its not a huge deal. But not something you can fix real easy. I cant fix it at all short of getting a new transmission.
the throttle cable is nt stuck. where is the iddle control valve? plus the the cv axel turn when on neutral? i pulle out the thermostat and the temperature was good. but the rpms were fucking up..
maybe you put the air box and friends back on wrong, or have a sensor disconnected that is allowing too much air in. Your throttle cable is not stuck right?! Make sure the idle air control valve is closing. Not sure what else to check. Good Luck, let me know how it turns out.
You loosen the knuckle from the shock/strut . That should allow you to remove the axle. Use a piece of wood & hammer if needed. Then you go under the knuckle and loosen the nut from the Lower Ball joint. Then it should come off the Lower control arm.
Another question: did you have to remove both axles or just the passenger side one? I've heard others say both but it looks like you only did one. Thanks.
Do you have to have something (eg. a jack) to support the engine/transmission from underneath while the clutch housing is out? Or is it safe to let the engine sit on its mounts?
Thank you for taking the time to make a video explaining clutch replacement.
I have 96 accord 150,000 non-vtech. Clutch is just now starting to slip. I think similar to replace. Best video on YouTube for front wheel drive clutch replacement.

you suck at explaining things. prolly cuz u really have no idea what you talking about. seems like u were a tool bitch for a friend who is replacing your clutch.
This guy is about as competent at describing what he's doing as he is at driving apparently.
My 94 Civic VX just rolled 240,000 miles so I'm preparing for this fateful day. Gearbox is sloppy, clutch grabs at the top, pressure plate force is almost nonexistent. Still runs like a champ though. I'd like to do a swap but wallet says just replace the clutch... oh well.
@jdman687 Go ahead post up a vid of your clutch replacement. When you get your money you broke ass bitch. Be careful responding to this message, cause I doubt a mommas boy, who drools over aftermarket parts for his family hand me down civic could ever talk me down or MohadibTheHorrible .
Associates in Automotive Technology & Engineering and one ASE certification away from a Master Tech. ya got nothing.
LOL, got my clutch in, RAN LIKE BUTTER. No seriously. I replaced the clutch and put 10w30 in my transmission (that's the equivalent to Honda MTF) and it just runs beautiful. Shifting is smoother, I don't grind gears, moving the stick shift is like butter, the clutch engages like butter, its so fantastic.
3 days later my car won't start. I have no spark. I'm putting a new dizzy in this coming Monday before I start my job on Tuesday.
My clutch, for the moment, wont rev past 4k. Its definitely the clutch, the clutch cant handle the high revs. 1st gear is so weak that it will rev all the way to red line, BUT, 2nd/3rd/4th/5th will slip past 4k. I'm replacing it tomorrow and gonna take pictures because I KNOW I wore it past its "ideal" replacement, im sure im grinding on some metal :D
See I got a factory lemon civic everything that could go wrong gone wrong with my civic but you may have had a great civic. Factory defects do come from a good car line once in a while. But my beef is honda makes a crappy automatic transmission period! There not strong even with good parts. There standard transmission is awsome and it's rock solid. Honda from what I am told is an engine maker not car maker. They only make cars to compete with domestic market in the last 30 years.
Aye, I have read some bad things about Hondas automatic trannies. I had a 2001 Accord that was auto, and the tranny was crap and about to die. But I feel asleep on the highway and ran into a semi. So, lol, no clue how long the POS tranny would have lasted. Tranny asside, I love Hondas. Though, Im rather found of Toyota too. They make non interference engines. Huge plus in my book. Hondas just look better imho :D
i feel your pain man... same thing happend to my CrX when i was driving it... we have the same problem nothing different..lol love the clutch.. keep it to remind u not 2 do donuts any more lol
