@Soulscarz the 5.8 is DOHC (4cams) 32v (massive heads) weighs more and is dimensionally bigger than the 6.2 OHV (1cam) 16v LS9. Two totally different engines. The 5.8 is a great engine but is much larger and heavier than the LS9. Pound for pound the LS9 puts out more power. The top end speed is mostly about gearing. Ex: callaway sledgehammer corvette , only 800hp but tops 250mph. The corvette has a more steep 6th gear. The Cadillac CTSV weighs 4250lbs w/550hp and hits 191mph. All great cars.

philthyco, you are wrong when you say a near stock vette can run a highly modded Cobra etc. A highly modded Cobra would be turbo, bigger blower, nitrous and supporting mods. Nowadays, a '03-'04 Cobra is considered stock if it has I/E, pulley, and tune. All of which can be had for under $1000 if done properly. And, oh yeah, that will often gain an astonishing 60-80 rwhp and a lot of tq too. I think to do that on an LSX you would need to spend a decent amount more money for the same result.

I find it hard to believe that the Z is making 396 with just bolt ons. Most of our cars only see around 380rwhp with LT's, intake and tune. Those aftermarket split spoke chromes on the Z are worth a solid loss of .1-.15 in the 1/4 over the stock wheels.

Eitherway, looks like a close race with a weight advantage going to the FRC Z and the power going to the 4v. I think the 4v is slightly faster. Ford did well on the terminators.

I went to a shop and the guy wants to charge me 350 bucks, he says he has to change the serpentine as well because of the pulley size (2.8). Is that price right in the money, or is he a rip off? I know the pulley for itself goes for about 80 bucks, and the serpentine can't be more than 30. I would really appreciate your help!
