Not to say that GSP isn't talented (in actuality I think he's amazing and the P4P king), but saying that he outwrestles NCAA champs is innaccurate. MMA is not a wrestling match. Yeah, they're both combat sports, but they're still very different disciplines. That being said, I don't think its going to do much to compare GSP and Askren in wrestling.

It is a different sport I agree but the fact of the matter is that GSP took Koscheck twice from his own shots and Koscheck failed on his. I wouldnt argue with you that if Koscheck and GSP wrestled in a collegiate wrestling match, that Koscheck would most certainly win, but i wasnt talking about that. I was commenting on "wrestling" within a mma fight. Askren would kill GSP in a wrestling match but may have more trouble taking him down in a mma fight was all I was suggesting.

MMA wrestling and pure wrestling are VERY different things. I know I wrestled for a very long time and now I fight. Some peoples wrestling adapts, some doesn't. Ben is an amazing wrestler, but as far as MMA wrestling GSP would demolish him. He is too versitle, you don't know if he's gonna punch or kick you, or hit you with a blast double. Not to say some day Ben couldn't be as good, but right now his MMA/striking experience would be his downfall.

We have no idea how much potential Aksren has for striking and jui jitsu nor do we know what type of punishment he can take. In a five round fight one has plenty of time to knock his opponent out at the start of every round or sub him from the bottom.

People have come closer and been unable to finish on Askren. He doesn't really use the sprawl defense,he tends to keep his hips in and scramble more. I don't believe Beau Taylor ever wrestled in college; I think he is an amateur MMA fighter. Not sure on that though.
