Now THIS is more like it- the other version of this up on youtube w/ Dave playing an electric through the whole song is pretty weak. The band sounds marvelous, and D.G. is in top voice as well. Thanks for posting!
Nope... it's about how Roger waters tried to kill Pink Floyd with all his WWII whining bullshit!
David shows the layers of "Pink Floyd"... It was DEFINITELY the music and a great lead guitar. A lot of the words were cool when you were stoned... the next day, they seemed a little "childish". Roger Waters never wrote a lyric that John Lennon could wipe his ass with!
And, if he was such a great song writer... where's the new stuff!?!
David Gilmour has long been considered one of the most talented men to ever strap on a guitar, by his fellow musicians and guitar makers alike. Ask the people at Fender! People jump at the chance to work with him, and he finds the most talented musicians. He's one of the few players that has the ability to use his guitar like an extension of his own voice. Listen to "Marooned" or "One of These Days". I know everyone has a different Top Five, but to watch this man play is truly amazing.
David was never considered a great player and even by his own words. But Pink Floyd bein my most favorite band of all time I consider him one of the best. Its just his style that seperates him from some of the greatest. Blows me away why they consider this group as pop. In my day this was heavy metel with Zep and deep purple. However Kraftwork in the same era put pink down in sound effects. Straitest guys u would ever see yet played the most spacest music. But no1 beats Floyd n my book
How fucking classic is this... Rockin Roll Hall Of Fame.. Back Me.. A Million Comments On This.... Takes Me Back to 65 .... Even though I was negative 1 then LOL.. Look at Gilmour then ...And then NOW.. U KNOW what I MEAN...
@dooom560 ther would have been no floyd without "roger" barrett, but no-one can play every type of music... except mr gilmour. every lead guitarist recieved a nick name. this guy is just called david gilmour. and everyony knows who he is immediately. rock on big man!!!!
HAHAH THE BLACK STRAT WHEN IT WENT THROUGH ITS HIGHSCHOOL BADASS PHASE!!! LOOK AT THAT HUGE FLOYD ROSE !!!!! LOL theres a permanent scar in it cause of that lol, like us all!

I recorded this show off of MTV in 1985 and it is one of the best you will see of david gilmore. The band is superb and the song list is geat ...they should put this out on dvd ....maybe if we make enough noise they will get the message.
@machine1763 I did too. Back when MTV played at least 2 "uninterrupted" concerts a week! BTW this is available on VHS. Nick Mason plays the encore on one of em.
Thanks for this great footage - i just bought a 1977 black strat with a Kahler locking tremolo on it like the one Dave has here in this vid .. nice to see how well it can be used and sound ;)
Well, the Hammersmith Odeon recording has been official released on cd last year at Immortal Recordings. The complete line-up is Gregg Dechart-keyboards / Mickey Feat-bass / Jody Linscott-perc. / Mick Ralphs-guitar / Raff Ravenscoft-reeds / Chris Slade-drums, gueste: Roy Harper and Nick Mason. And ofcourse all time guitar hero: David Gilmour.
I watch the video, love his playing and i look online and I find the wrong info. There needs to be better access to the information of the players behind the music we hear.
I can not sleep without hearing this song. Every night I get to YouTube, and simply by addiction, I put this video. Oh God, certain things have no explanation. Thank Gilmour for his art inexhaustible. From: Vadilson - Belo Horizonte - BRAZIL
Never heard this until now! How did I ever miss this work? It is some very good musical artistry.
I like plenty of all of the individuals of PF's work, but there was some very early "electronic noodling" which lacked musical content. Some of that of which I speak was on the "Saucer Full of Secrets" & "Atom Heart Mother" albums.
When they got to the Meddle album, it was sheer genius! They never looked back after that.
David Gilmour had the Kahler tremelo (whammy bar) system and also had a 22-fret Charvel neck with a Strat logo on it so he could hit notes that a normal Strat neck doesn't hit (he did hit higher notes on other shows, see Paris and Chicago ROIOs from the tour). This ending solo is one of David's best.
This is an incredible song. The only time I saw the whole 8 plus minute clip on TV (not counting having the David Gilmour VHS) was in March of 2004 on VH1 Classic when it was celebrating David's 58 th birthday. I figured they'd cut the clip after Mick Ralphs' solo but when they left it alone, I said to myself "God bless David". That ending guitar solo was epic (that is the Black Strat he is playing right there). Only David can play a proper solo with dropped D tuning with ease.
Thats Is a metaphor used by Gilmour to interpret murder. If you listen he talks about someone who is crazy. Mark David Chapman plead insanity in the trial of the murder of lennon. Gilmour also says that he uses his craziness for an excuse. Some people don't beleive that Mark David Chapman was crazy. Thay proves my point.
Can make any difference of turn back the page...Mark David Chapman killed John Lennon Because of the book Catcher in the Rye. The last page Mark Chapman read was when the character in the book killed another man (who was his hero)
This was actually a rock radio hit here in the US. I heard this on WBCN and WHJY when it came out. Then WZLX used to play it when they had their Pink Floyd half hour on Saturdays nicknamed "The Perfect Pink Envelope". "Murder" reached either #12 or #13 on the US Billboard Rock Track Charts in 1984. When I first got About Face on cassette in February, 1988 I managed to play the tape until it wore out (I then acquired on CD).
