Ehhh... I've used both the iPad and the Archos tablet, and in my opinion I like the iPad more. It's a few quality differences, and I also like the interface more on the iPad. I don't think that this has the potential to "kill" the iPad, just like the Zune couldn't "kill" the iPod.

@gpower88 This tablet has various flaws, and you can see that it is very slow (if they fit a SSD instead a HDD it would be better). Nevertheless, you can't compare frequencies of integrated circuits with different architectures... The intel Atom CPU is x86 and your nokia is an ARM Cortex-A8.

This thing is boring, it's got NOTHING on the iPad. Just a bulky, unresponsive version of Windows. What many people don't get is that Apple is redefining what mobile technology should be. Why feel the need that a tablet has to have USB ports? So that you can have more bulky devices connected to a "mobile' device? That defeats the whole purpose. The recommendation is to hold your money until this technology gets fully developed, ipad was not designed to compite with tablet pc's but instead to demonstrate that e-readers are garbage with limited memory and black and withe screen but tablet pc's demonstrate that ipad is just a expensive ipod touch with thyroid gland problems. Don't buy these kind of items until they are fully compatible wit flash, with usbs, softwares, applications and skinny designs are out and available.

@mayo705 windows 7 is not available for ARM cpu's right now unfortunately. there have been rumors that at some point it will, but now 7 only works on x86 processors :/
Golly - it looks a bit 90s! And it doesn't have an ARM chip (a shitty intel chip instead) so battery life / heat is going to be a problem, and it is heavy. You may as well have a laptop!
The iPad is not an iPhone on steroids but, worse, an iPod Touch on steroids. No multitasking, no webcam, closed apps. A way to squeeze you like a lemon. This is much better. I'm still not sure the iPad will be successful, even if the medias will push it to download newspapers and magazines. You still need a computer, it is not a phone and if you already have an iPod touch or an iPhone, why buying it? This is much better, I wish they made it a little larger (11-12").

bought a archos 5 250 gig about 3 weeks a go, and it was refurbish, so when i tried to register the device it gave me a notice that this device ,WAS already registered , so i could not do it, 6 emails latter and 5 voice messages, i have NOT RECEIVE AN ANSWER.
i got a archos 7 .got busted a little. called them to see if it is supported by warranty. they said to send it to them. 4 months later after sending it i still haven't heard from them. when i call them to see if they have it i get put on hold for more than hour.
you're probably better off with a nice laptop for £499 cuz for that money i could get a 2ghz prosesor a 300gb hdd and a 19in screen + lan capabiltys instead of wifi which you have to pay for and i could play games on the go too, sine a lap top would have a optical drive (cd/dvd drive).
I was going to get the Viliv S5 but this caught my attention. I like the larger screen and it'll fit easily in my leather-bound binder. It's not perfect, but I'll buy it anyway.
I like the HD quality too, however I actually was about to buy a viliv S5 over at Dynamism however the demand for it was so high that the server slowed to a crawl and by the time I put my order in, they were sold out. Oh well, I then searched for a good media player besides an ipod and one thing led to another and I eventually said: "Screw it! I'll just get a dedicated tablet with a full OS". All media players are basically tiny tablets with smaller screens anyway when you think about it.
I'm a little disappointed with the specifications on this. It seems it can not play HD flash videos either, its possessor is only 1.2 GHz.. So, I'm still thinking. When do you think this is going to be released?
I have been keeping up to date with this device and it can indeed play HD video. However I have also heard that during a 2 hour long movie, you should expect a few hiccups, nothing too inconvenient I think. The expected release date is right after Oct 22, that's the date Windows 7 launches. I'm not too excited about the Z-series intel CPU though. A 12 inch version also comes out around mid 2010, about the same time as the new Intel Atom series of CPUs, but I don't want to wait that long.
The netbook I'm using now has the same CPU as the Archos 9 and it can't handle youtube's HD videos, so I wouldn't count on the Archos 9 being able to either.

The iPad is not an iPhone on steroids but, worse, an iPod Touch on steroids. No multitasking, no webcam, closed apps. A way to squeeze you like a lemon. This is much better. I'm still not sure the iPad will be successful, even if the medias will push it to download newspapers and magazines. You still need a computer, it is not a phone and if you already have an iPod touch or an iPhone, why buying it? This is much better, I wish they made it a little larger (11-12").

This is pretty much what I was hoping the iPad would be... It's much better than that iPhone on steroids. But, knowing how people will buy anything Apple puts out there, it will probably be killed by the iPad.

You say it costs twice the price, but the 64GB Ipad with 3G is expected to be around $699, this thing is around $550. If you're going to compare the prices, you should try to compare similar spec models.

i just red a review about archos 9. dont buy it, its just like archos 5 android. it does crash especially, it is very slow, slow in opening explorer or mozilla. the only good thing about this is can play 1080p and thats about it. dont buy it....archos doesnt care about customers, they only want money from us.

its 1.3 megapixel, and how is this better than the viliv x70? come on, dude ive own all the archos product to archos 5 android and they still the same. they crash, the apps doesnt work, the customers service sucks. do you really want to wait for an hour?? dont think so. archos has 1.1 which is very slow, viliv has 1.33 processor. technically viliv x70 is better

dont waste your money buying this crap. if you own archos you know what i mean. buy this and you will regret it, costumer service sucks, the device always freeze. i suggest you buy viliv x70. its better, free gps, can play 720p. you dont have to buy any addons like archos does. if you buy archos you have to buy dvr station which is $139, hidef plugins, gps which is 100+. the vilivx70 doesnt need this cuz gps is already built inside so if im you ill take viliv x70. you will not regret it

u can have a app for areals u get freeveiw movies can have more battery life gps tv dvd cd com all the kit u need better keyboard plus the cam 1.5 mega pixles may take a while to get there but its 100x better than viliv il give it to u its not crap but archos is better u cant deni if u looking for a carry around com then yea i suggest viliv

bought a archos 5 250 gig about 3 weeks a go, and it was refurbish, so when i tried to register the device it gave me a notice that this device ,WAS already registered , so i could not do it, 6 emails latter and 5 voice messages, i have NOT RECEIVE AN ANSWER.

i got a archos 7 .got busted a little. called them to see if it is supported by warranty. they said to send it to them. 4 months later after sending it i still haven't heard from them. when i call them to see if they have it i get put on hold for more than hour.

you're probably better off with a nice laptop for £499 cuz for that money i could get a 2ghz prosesor a 300gb hdd and a 19in screen + lan capabiltys instead of wifi which you have to pay for and i could play games on the go too, sine a lap top would have a optical drive (cd/dvd drive).

I think people will be more accepting of the Atom processor in a tablet then in a laptop.
But the battery life is still miserable for a ePad or tablet.

I was going to get the Viliv S5 but this caught my attention. I like the larger screen and it'll fit easily in my leather-bound binder. It's not perfect, but I'll buy it anyway.

I like the HD quality too, however I actually was about to buy a viliv S5 over at Dynamism however the demand for it was so high that the server slowed to a crawl and by the time I put my order in, they were sold out. Oh well, I then searched for a good media player besides an ipod and one thing led to another and I eventually said: "Screw it! I'll just get a dedicated tablet with a full OS". All media players are basically tiny tablets with smaller screens anyway when you think about it.

I'm a little disappointed with the specifications on this. It seems it can not play HD flash videos either, its possessor is only 1.2 GHz.. So, I'm still thinking. When do you think this is going to be released?

I have been keeping up to date with this device and it can indeed play HD video. However I have also heard that during a 2 hour long movie, you should expect a few hiccups, nothing too inconvenient I think. The expected release date is right after Oct 22, that's the date Windows 7 launches. I'm not too excited about the Z-series intel CPU though. A 12 inch version also comes out around mid 2010, about the same time as the new Intel Atom series of CPUs, but I don't want to wait that long.

The netbook I'm using now has the same CPU as the Archos 9 and it can't handle youtube's HD videos, so I wouldn't count on the Archos 9 being able to either.
