I love this! Baroque is my favorite style, and Bach is my absolute favorite composer. This is one of my favorites of his, and you do it very well. I like this and I like you. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I love your tone, and it affirms to me the futility of seeking authenticity through period instruments, playing sans vibrato, terraced dynamics, or whatever else we wish to impose. Anyway, the warmth of your tone is delightful. Thank you.
This is not too fast! This is a gorgeous tempo -- it really dances. Honestly, the song is "Wachet auf" -- Wake up! It's not supposed to put you to sleep.
Remember children, slow is not beautiful, slow is SLOW.
this vid is absolutely lovely and is showing the very spirit of Bachs music. It''s personell. It`s a feeling in the heart. We can never understand it, but we can feel it. This performance is right on it.
Thanks Mark. Your message received; and I know you don't write many. I do appreciate it more than I can express. I now feel sure I will do some justice to this piece one day, having had you as my teacher for it, and, somehow feeling that you wish I might succeed. All my many thanks from France.
I know you don't normally repsond to commentaries and I'm not asking that you might do so here; just wanted to let you know that it's your playing of this piece that inspired me to buy the official sheet music for it to learn it correctly. It may be the only classical piece I will ever play but it will have taught me so much having attempted to play it should be played. All thanks to your so beautiful playing of it here on YouTube.
Thank you very much for this comment. I am very moved by it and it is the reason I play; to share the gift of music which I love with those of like mind and heart. I wish you all the very best in your playing. Blessings, Mark
I have to continue on, I'm so impressed by you I must express it. Nina Perlove explains how to acheive a thick and beautiful flute sound, but yours is even thicker and more beautiful to my ears. I'm not comfortable with her "low on the chin possition", my natural position is high on the lip and rolled-in " like James Galway. I do listen to the best though I'm not able to play the classics. I will however try to master Wachet Auf thanks to you. Can you give me advice? Thanks.
Hello Mark, I found you by happenstance. I'm a "rock" flutist (if a flutist at all!) and recently did a hack-job on this piece, thinking it was a Tull piece that Ian varied at will. I try to inspire all who love Tull by giving some fundamental notes. Never knew this was a serious Bach piece to be played as written! You, amateur? Can't believe it! Never heard a thicker more beautiful sound ever! Muramastu? (must be). I'll now work on Wachet Auf thanks to you, and listening to you.
¡Bellísimo, excelente, me ha gustado muchísimo, muchas gracias por compartir esta interpretación con nosotros, bellísima la cantata de Juan Sebastián Bach! tocas maravillosamente :)))
Mark - You are more that ready to use that Bb thumb key! You'll be amazed at the difference once you get over the initial 'bump in the road.' Wonderful sound and beautiful phrasing. Is this the Williams head you had/have for sale?
Mark - You are more than ready to use the Bb thumb key! You'll be amazed at what it can do to facilitate your overall technique (which is already very good). Wonderful sound and beautiful phrasing! Is this with your Williams head? Is it still for sale?
Fantastic rendition! Do you think it would be work on the violin during the signing of the register at a wedding, or is this strictly a flautist's piece? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
A beautiful video for sure. Thank you for posting and sharing it with us! Keep up the good work! Thank you so much! Your tone is so sweet and crips - seems to penetetrate, but float beautifuly out of the flute. Congrats!
Yes, I have several CDs with their compositions, but perhaps there are more. The CPE pieces are very challenging. Thank for the note, I always enjoy your comments and thoughts.
I can't tell if you didn't do your scales. Sounded great as usual. Very nice piece. Like Jascha Heifetz said about practicing: One day and I notice, two days and the public notices, three days and the press notices. Heh.
Have you ever heard the flute trios by all the Bach boys? CPE, WF, JC and JS. I have this CD with Isaac Stern and Jean-Pierre Rampal. I think of you when I listen to it. Very nice flute parts.
I would say that Williams and Lafin are top guns, but that is my experience only. They both make custom heads with exceptional qualities. I would put them both in first place :)
Hi Angie. The Williams. I should have spent more time warming up. I just cranked this out cold when I got up yesterday without doing my scale warm-ups first.
Beautiful! Very well done, you would make Herr Bach proud

A little too staccato for my taste. Also, the movement somewhat distracted from the playing. Other than that, i thought it was fantastic!
