  • Beautiful! Very well done, you would make Herr Bach proud

  • I love this! Baroque is my favorite style, and Bach is my absolute favorite composer. This is one of my favorites of his, and you do it very well. I like this and I like you. Thank you for sharing your talent.

  • Good work We love also Bach with recorder and guitar

  • I love your tone, and it affirms to me the futility of seeking authenticity through period instruments, playing sans vibrato, terraced dynamics, or whatever else we wish to impose. Anyway, the warmth of your tone is delightful. Thank you.

  • This is not too fast! This is a gorgeous tempo -- it really dances. Honestly, the song is "Wachet auf" -- Wake up! It's not supposed to put you to sleep.

Remember children, slow is not beautiful, slow is SLOW.

  • A treat to listen to.

  • I must agree with h20.

    Played a little too fast.

  • this vid is absolutely lovely and is showing the very spirit of Bachs music. It''s personell. It`s a feeling in the heart. We can never understand it, but we can feel it. This performance is right on it.

  • nice work

  • Too Fast. Yikes!

  • Bravo!!!

  • I played this on my flute for a test at school :D with a woodwind quartet of 2 clarinets and 2 flutes We got a 4+

    :)

  • wow, very nice sound :)

  • Divine! Thank you.

  • Thanks Mark. Your message received; and I know you don't write many. I do appreciate it more than I can express. I now feel sure I will do some justice to this piece one day, having had you as my teacher for it, and, somehow feeling that you wish I might succeed. All my many thanks from France.

  • I know you don't normally repsond to commentaries and I'm not asking that you might do so here; just wanted to let you know that it's your playing of this piece that inspired me to buy the official sheet music for it to learn it correctly. It may be the only classical piece I will ever play but it will have taught me so much having attempted to play it should be played. All thanks to your so beautiful playing of it here on YouTube.

  • Thank you very much for this comment. I am very moved by it and it is the reason I play; to share the gift of music which I love with those of like mind and heart. I wish you all the very best in your playing. Blessings, Mark

  • Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing!

  • Wonderful rich tone and fluid breath control. Very enjoyable. Thank you

  • I have to continue on, I'm so impressed by you I must express it. Nina Perlove explains how to acheive a thick and beautiful flute sound, but yours is even thicker and more beautiful to my ears. I'm not comfortable with her "low on the chin possition", my natural position is high on the lip and rolled-in " like James Galway. I do listen to the best though I'm not able to play the classics. I will however try to master Wachet Auf thanks to you. Can you give me advice? Thanks.

  • Hello Mark, I found you by happenstance. I'm a "rock" flutist (if a flutist at all!) and recently did a hack-job on this piece, thinking it was a Tull piece that Ian varied at will. I try to inspire all who love Tull by giving some fundamental notes. Never knew this was a serious Bach piece to be played as written! You, amateur? Can't believe it! Never heard a thicker more beautiful sound ever! Muramastu? (must be). I'll now work on Wachet Auf thanks to you, and listening to you.

  • It's so enjoyful and peaceful, I ove this piece so much...Thanks to my teacher's suggestion.

  • Listening to you play this made me very happy. :) Thank you.

  • terrific, glad I looked for this on youtube

  • Belo trabalho! Som excelente!

Continue postando mais interpretações para nós!

    Saudações do Brasil.

  • That was awesome! Most enjoyable.

  • You played very beautifully. I really enjoyed it!! :)

  • Great music and grae performance! Bravo.

  • thank you for sharing. it's very beautiful.

  • Lindo. Meus parabéns.

  • liked it you articulate well, i'm learnin this on trumpet so its nice to see some on play it so well, considering my version's not great yet

  • A little too staccato for my taste. Also, the movement somewhat distracted from the playing. Other than that, i thought it was fantastic!

  • Wow, this is surprisingly good. One of those lucky random finds, I guess.

  • I thought this was called Zion hort die Wachter singen.

  • Beautifully lovely articulation and tone. You are blending very will with the organ recording. Superb!

  • simply the best

  • awesome. they need to post this song with the Clarinet part. x_x

  • Mark - You are more that ready to use that Bb thumb key! You'll be amazed at the difference once you get over the initial 'bump in the road.' Wonderful sound and beautiful phrasing. Is this the Williams head you had/have for sale?

  • Mark - You are more than ready to use the Bb thumb key! You'll be amazed at what it can do to facilitate your overall technique (which is already very good). Wonderful sound and beautiful phrasing! Is this with your Williams head? Is it still for sale?

  • Hey, you play very well, have you ever tried to play "Peter and the Wolf"? :)

  • fine job thank you im actually studieing the song for a test tom so double thanks i certainly will remember the piece

  • Oh man, GOOSEBUMPS. I can listen to his peice all day. You are amazing with that flute. BRAVO!

  • Can't hear the Cantus Firmus very clearly (the organ). The flute is also sometimes not with the organ-don't rush!

  • bella interpretación!

  • even if i play the flute nice , i couldnt be this great ! im very impressed. :D

  • 'Sleepers awake'. FluteMark, you've great command of the flute. Beautiful. (This piece was featured on television, on 'CSI').

  • i love that piece but now i love it more

  • Beautiful rendition of one ot the most joyful pieces of classical musik! Thanksso much! I also posted a video response...for obvious reasons!

  • O.M.G. I really like this piece where i can buy the book ?

  • Fantastic rendition! Do you think it would be work on the violin during the signing of the register at a wedding, or is this strictly a flautist's piece? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

  • I love bach and i think you played this song really well! You have a very clear and pretty tone :) I also love your stand! Where can I get one?

  • A lovely piece, beautifully played. This was played at the wedding of my daughter and son in law, so it brings back very happy memories.

  • rush rush rush

  • omg now im officially one of your biggest fans! you rock!!

  • This music.. My head.. All day.

  • B R A V O !

  • excellent

  • A beautiful video for sure. Thank you for posting and sharing it with us! Keep up the good work! Thank you so much! Your tone is so sweet and crips - seems to penetetrate, but float beautifuly out of the flute. Congrats!

  • you the man.

  • Yes, I have several CDs with their compositions, but perhaps there are more. The CPE pieces are very challenging. Thank for the note, I always enjoy your comments and thoughts.

  • I can't tell if you didn't do your scales. Sounded great as usual. Very nice piece. Like Jascha Heifetz said about practicing: One day and I notice, two days and the public notices, three days and the press notices. Heh.

Have you ever heard the flute trios by all the Bach boys? CPE, WF, JC and JS. I have this CD with Isaac Stern and Jean-Pierre Rampal. I think of you when I listen to it. Very nice flute parts.

  • Pretty! =)

  • That sounds really great!!! Your continuing increase in flute performance is most impressive. Congratulations!

Maybe it's not only due to the headjoint.

P.S.: is the Williams better than the Lafin?

  • I would say that Williams and Lafin are top guns, but that is my experience only. They both make custom heads with exceptional qualities. I would put them both in first place :)

  • Which headjoint are you playing there Mark ?? :-)

  • Hi Angie. The Williams. I should have spent more time warming up. I just cranked this out cold when I got up yesterday without doing my scale warm-ups first.
