Separate one singer from another out of that mess. You just need to have talent and be able to reach some kind of an audience and connect with them. At this point, there's not a whole lot of anything that's "new" and that hasn't been done before. How many truly original new songs come out that haven't been written in some way before? Same with books, movies, whatever. Find any singer that you think is unique, and I can almost guarantee that someone somewhere will say that "unique singer" reminds them of someone who had previously done that before.

I don't know that Ruben disappeared. For one thing he did some more gospel oriented stuff at one point. His regular secular/r&b stuff, well the music industry and radio stations just aren't pushing that style anymore. Back in the 80's and 90's he would have been a little bigger. He may not have been a huge star, but his style would have fit in more with what was being pushed and promoted.

Ok. First of all there are only 12 (13) top spots so there are going to more then a few that miss out. Secondly, Kendra is by far the best of those that did not make it. She's heard now so you will get your chance to buy her music. I am not going to make this be some claim to bias that Ashton got in, she is just not that strong! Listen to her tracks again and you will find quite a few flat spots. Besides that her "attitude" is annoying. There's a difference between "Confidant and Cocky".
