I was a big sony fan a few years ago. The ps1 ps2 and the psp were all great... not the psp go, that one sucked! Then the ps3 came and it fucked everything up. That overpriced piece of shit had a launching price of 600 $/Euros and when the ps3 slim came out they removed the compatibility with ps1&2 games so I just said FUCK IT! The psvita will suck because it can't play psp umd games and the memory cards can reach the price of 100$! FUCK THAT! Fuck you sony, you lost a fan!
I think its worth it if you can get the HD remake for $20. I only have one HD remake which is the prince of persia collection and it was $20 at toys r us a couple months ago. i got it for $19 an change with my big 10% discount lol. One question though...why couldn't sony implement the trophies for the actual PS2 game disks? So for the people that bought the backwards compatible ps3 for $600 fucking dollars, they could get trophies for the ps2 games that sony is making for HD now. i don't get it.

It's a good idea to put a collection of games on a single disc. I missed the PS2 era, so the Classics HDs are somewhat of a necessity.
If they're not upgrading the graphics to HD as they say they are (word is Capcom were guilty of this with regard to RE4), then people should boycott them. I, on the other hand, have no reason to boycott when waiting for a used copy will do. I'm not stupid enough to pay full price for a collection of last generation games.
Its really not as bad as you are making it out to be. Firstly these HD collections are quite cheap or they are in my country (England) the Prince of Persia trilogy is only £12.99 or $20.54. Also it allows people to play a game they haven't before on ps3.
HD remakes are great for me I don't have my PS2 anymore and back in the day I enjoyed those games a lot. The Jak and Daxter Collection was just released and I couldn't be happier. Oh yes and money makes the world go round everyone knows that,

A lot of people don't go looking for older stuff in used game stores and just buy whatever's new. If you don't like the developers making money off of them just wait till they are cheap and buy used.

scarface and gun both have progressive scan and true wide screen and look good on a large hd lcd screen. few ps2 games have progressive scan or true wide screen.

well... i payed 50 quid for MGS HD collection and i think they did a really good job upscaling it, so im happy with paying for it also, it comes with mgs peace walker so thats even better
HD ps2 re releases are a good thing. standard ps2 games look horrible on an hd tv. the hd versions looks great because they are output is hd. as a gamer there is a HUGE difference between the original and an upscaled hd version.
do agree with you though, it's just a quick cheap way to earn money. However, it's for the people who never played these games before who can get all of them for a cheaper price with updated graphics. They should still have backwards compatibility nonetheless since there are many games that will never have a HD remake on the PS2 that kick ass. Gitaroo Man, Suikoden 3-5, Digimon World (yes, I love those games), and a lot more.

I have the God of War Collection as well, and I do not own a PS2 so I appreciate the upgraded HD remakes. Usually there is more than one game included in the remakes and it's a chance for me to be able to play some great games that I missed. I actually compared the remakes to the original God of War on my brother's PS2 and the visual difference is remarkable. I also can see why people who own the PS2 games would get pissed about not being able to play them on the PS3.

They only collections i got are the God of War and Sly Cooper Collections, and i only paid $10 for each. I dont know i might get the God of War Origins, MGS and Devil May Cry Collection, but that might be it for me.
i still have my fat ps3 from the first day they came out and i am glad that i don't have the slim version i still have plenty of games from the ps2 era like FFX for example i can play that game over and over and never get bored that's just one of my fav games of all time but in my opinion they should stop making the slims and make new ones for backwards compatibility just a thought

My PS3 plays PS2 games cause its the original 60GB, you can still find them on ebay or on kijiji in your city. Its pretty easy to find them and I only paid $200 for mine.

To play ps2 games it used the gpu and cpu in the 20 and 60. In the 80 it used a emulated cpu and a physical gpu. Then they took out the gpu in the rest. Yes the CPU is and emulator but the gpu in not.

Dude, they needed to have the EE in the PS3 mostly for the PS3 to play PS2 games, now they aren't doing that anymore since it's costs more, and they have to really re-release a game to actually remaster it.

Some select HD remakes are worth it, if they were ps2 only or for the psp. I loved backward compatability on ps3 still owning around a dozen ps2 titles made it more valuable than a 360 before it got the Yellow light of glory sending my first ps3 to gaming heaven. So far I've played the god of war hd's and prince of persia sand of times hd and they have been stellar from what I remember of them. Currently waiting on hd remakes of ico(nvr played), re: code veronica(nvr played), and MGS:PW.
ICO was already HD for me bro. Hell It's the first HD game that was never claimed HD. Porting it to PS3 is just the same thing just added on trophies.
So yes, in the instance of SotC, I am willing to buy the game again, in fact I've has Sept 27th circled on my calendar ever since they announced its release date. But no, I'm not about to start re-buying PS2 re-releases as a matter of policy. I still have a working PS2; if I want to play those games again, I can always hook that back up (although I'd rather not have to, stupid non-backwards-compatible slim PS3!).
I am fine with buying Shadow of the Colossus in HD. I always felt that game came one generation too early. It pushed the PS2's capabilities to its absolute limits. I've seen the trailer for SotC in HD, and it looks incredible. Everything - draw distance, jagged edges in polygons, framerate - has been fixed. It isn't just a better-looking game, It's a better-RUNNING game.
Never had a PS2, wasn't really interested in it. Hell I didn't have a xbox or gamecube . . . . So I don't really mind the 'remake'. The only other PS2 games I'd like to play (besides the God's of wars which I have) are the Castlevania's. Possibly the Final Fantasies.
But I won't be able to help from buying Metal Gear collection and ICO collection....only because I'm a huge fan of Metal Gear, and I never had a chance to play ICO

I like the option to have both. I have a lot of PS2 games, but not every one. It's nice to have the remakes for any games I missed or if I just want a collection. I have a fat PS3 that just froze, so I got a slim, I'm just gonna get a new PS2 because the PS2 games look better on the PS2 hardware anyway. I am 43. My first system was Atari 2600. I'm just a sucker for nostalgia sometimes even if the games didn't age well.
Hmmmm......... I think it should have both; Backward Capability and HD Remake. I still have a bunch of Ps2 games which I don't have a Ps2 to play them anymore but they are just too AWESOME to "give away" like the Xenosaga Series. Also Metal Gear HD and ZOE HD are coming out too, and I know that I am getting that because I never owned them before. Having Backward Capability will give more option to fans on what to do.

I understand where ur coming from on this topic but I do actually enjoy these collections. I like it cause I get to play lots of awesome PS2 games I never played when they first came out and the HD and shit is just a bonus. The ICO collection was a tough decision for me cause I already have SotC but I think is get it because it actually includes extra content aswell as ICO which i havent played before.
People will pay anything to see bright and shiny colors, which seems to be why PC gamers love PC gaming so much because there easily amused at the vivid colors. For me personally I try to play the original games on there original systems. And no graphics don't make a game they just complement it. If you already have the game then don't re-buy it.
This is along the lines of the GotY editions/collector editions. Ppl want the latest and greatest. As soon as Fallout 3, Arkam Asylum and RE5 got updates, I needed to get them. But luckily I was able to overcome that obsession and managed to enjoy what I have. BTW fuck ultimate marvel vs crapcom 3

i think the hd remakes are kind of a good idea. the Ico and SotC hd disc is only 40 bucks and i never got a chance to play those two when they were first released so im really excited for that.

It would've been a much consumer-friendly choice to just put in the fucking emulator, yes. But some of the HD rereleases are nice for games I haven't played already... But my wallet feels bad for spending money on games I already have. My PS2 is very dated, makes a crapload of noise and games have low volume for some reason. It also looks pretty crappy on HDTV. You're right, if PCs can emulate the games with great graphics, the so called blu-ray 'powerhouse' that is the PS3 can as well.

HD ps2 re releases are a good thing. standard ps2 games look horrible on an hd tv. the hd versions looks great because they are output is hd. as a gamer there is a HUGE difference between the original and an upscaled hd version.

They should still have backwards compatibility nonetheless since there are many games that will never have a HD remake on the PS2 that kick ass. I have the God of War Collection as well, and I do not own a PS2 so I appreciate the upgraded HD remakes. Usually there is more than one game included in the remakes and it's a chance for me to be able to play some great games that I missed. I actually compared the remakes to the original God of War on my brother's PS2 and the visual difference is remarkable. I also can see why people who own the PS2 games would get pissed about not being able to play them on the PS3.

To play ps2 games it used the gpu and cpu in the 20 and 60. In the 80 it used a emulated cpu and a physical gpu. Then they took out the gpu in the rest. Yes the CPU is and emulator but the gpu in not.

Some select HD remakes are worth it, if they were ps2 only or for the psp. I loved backward compatability on ps3 still owning around a dozen ps2 titles made it more valuable than a 360 before it got the Yellow light of glory sending my first ps3 to gaming heaven. So far I've played the god of war hd's and prince of persia sand of times hd and they have been stellar from what I remember of them. Currently waiting on hd remakes of ico(nvr played), re: code veronica(nvr played), and MGS:PW.

So yes, in the instance of SotC, I am willing to buy the game again, in fact I've has Sept 27th circled on my calendar ever since they announced its release date. But no, I'm not about to start re-buying PS2 re-releases as a matter of policy. I am fine with buying Shadow of the Colossus in HD. I always felt that game came one generation too early. It pushed the PS2's capabilities to its absolute limits. I've seen the trailer for SotC in HD, and it looks incredible. Everything - draw distance, jagged edges in polygons, framerate - has been fixed. It isn't just a better-looking game, It's a better-RUNNING game.

I like the option to have both. I have a lot of PS2 games, but not every one. It's nice to have the remakes for any games I missed or if I just want a collection. Hmmmm......... I think it should have both; Backward Capability and HD Remake. I still have a bunch of Ps2 games which I don't have a Ps2 to play them anymore but they are just too AWESOME to "give away" like the Xenosaga Series. Also Metal Gear HD and ZOE HD are coming out too, and I know that I am getting that because I never owned them before. Having Backward Capability will give more option to fans on what to do.

For me personally I try to play the original games on there original systems. And no graphics don't make a game they just complement it. If you already have the game then don't re-buy it.

Honetley if they remade final fantasy 7,8 and 10 with updated graphics like in 13 and in hd I would so buy it...and probably pay full price.

This is along the lines of the GotY editions/collector editions. Ppl want the latest and greatest. As soon as Fallout 3, Arkam Asylum and RE5 got updates, I needed to get them. But luckily I was able to overcome that obsession and managed to enjoy what I have. BTW fuck ultimate marvel vs crapcom 3

Well, i agree with you, but i can't say that its the same for me because i never owned god of war 1.2. And i agree with you about the port as well, but i rather get this new game than the old one. but yah i agree with you about getting 300 plus games.

i think the hd remakes are kind of a good idea. the Ico and SotC hd disc is only 40 bucks and i never got a chance to play those two when they were first released so im really excited for that.

It would've been a much consumer-friendly choice to just put in the fucking emulator, yes. But some of the HD rereleases are nice for games I haven't played already... But my wallet feels bad for spending money on games I already have. My PS2 is very dated, makes a crapload of noise and games have low volume for some reason. It also looks pretty crappy on HDTV. You're right, if PCs can emulate the games with great graphics, the so called blu-ray 'powerhouse' that is the PS3 can as well.
