It is a common belief ( not sure if it's true) that sharks need to swim at all times, and hence have "waking" or "conscious" sleep. That's why she likened being an elf to being a shark when Liv said Elves don't even get to sleep.

Also, I'm like 90% sure she was pretending to be this dumb for a laugh + to get the actors to explain topics that a lot of non-Tolkien fans back in 2001 probably didn't know, aka ' What is an elf?'. Well, I hope that's why anyway...

This interviewer did not prepare one iota; a whinny, sniveling imbecile.There is more to Lord of the Rings than the movies. I loved the movies--waiting for The Hobbit; but I've also been reading LOTR since the 60's (almost as long as Mr. Lee); I also unterstand that the films were an adaptation of the books; a straight rendition would have been boring and confusing for a majority of the moving-going public. Never, ever conduct an interview without consulting your source material first.

90% of the people who claim to be LOTR fans never heard of it till the movie came out and never read the books..... i hate the movies... all of it was shit but the battle scenes.... they left out a ton of stuff....A TON OF BACK STORY ....and didn't get a lot about the characters right. in the movie Bilbo was fuckin 20..... in the book hes damn near 60 and he SPOKE ELVISH... he learned it from Bilbo and the story of the ring was off ...

There's a good reason that the movies are diffrent from the books.

Books and cinema are very different and you cant just directly convert a book into a movie, because movies require different dramatic structures.

Even if they DID make the movies just like the books, they'd be like, 60 hours long...
