Was listening to this (admittedly brilliant) song on the radio the other day and the dj posted the song as "Eskimo Zeppelin". Kashmiresque but still their most rocking song
This song was actually inspired by an Assyrian man who gave the idea to the lead singer and is dedicated to the Assyrians/Armenians of the genocide which was committed by the Ottoman Turks in 1915 hence why they called the song foreign land. The Zurna that is played isn't the Turkish Zurna but rather the Assyrian Zurna (from the East).
@assyrian2NV No, i actually saw an interview where eskimo joe said that the song was about heath ledger and his death- they wrote it right after it had happened
@Hunkyfish20 Yeah, because, like, nobody else would say that. Certainly not in the UK or anywhere like that. The only thing that makes you look dumb is that asinine comment. Twat.
Mate, If you're going to claim that someone is an American, At least do the internet a favour and check our facts, It was formed in Aus, 2/3rds of the band were born in Aus, Oh and by the way, The only reason it was formed was for an Australian competition.
This is the perfect homage to Heath. He was a true Aussie boy, he never tried to escape his roots like so many Aussies do when they go overseas. He embraced his heritagewarts and all, and made us all very proud. I smell the blood of an Australian, try to understand this if you can. A true Aussie boy that died in a foreign landhe should have died in Australia with his family.
It"so hard for me to learn english grammar (thanks for your help). As a migrant, am positive that my education is few times higher then your father. English grammar has no rulles, therefore you learn by memmories. If I was born here, than you should judge me. Regards...
sorry i mixed it up my keyboard wasn't working good i meant this is the 1st time i've listend to a song by a band mixed with a foreign instrument his voice doesnt suite the sound of the flute its a flute thats being played
good work manaveru, credit must be given when a sample of another song is used, but not when the music is an original recording.
i'd like to suggest that 'foreign land' is not only about heath ledger, but about all australian's who die on foreign soil, including our troops in overseas deployments, iraq, afghanistan, vietnam, east timor...this song is an ode to our fallen.
Awesome song. WTF giving credit to an instrument? Its more likely they'd give 'credit' to the estate of H. Ledger than an anonymous Turkish instrument
@BBallman107 True, but if memory serves me correctly the eastern instrument was actaully a sample from a (turkish?) traditional song. If it was a sample from another peice of music then they should probably credit it, otherwise not. Peace.
simply because its SO unique, not like other songs out there that sound like the same thing over and over again. this song is Different and i think thats why I love it so much...and that intro...its awesome!!!
usually i have to listen to songs over & over again until I kinda gain a liking 4 it...but with "Foreign Land" I fell in love it straight away. Good on u eskimo joe! :)
@FaithIsAnnoyed I wish people here in canada knew about them.... I'm tired of brining them up and getting a blank look for my efforts.... I really do love this song...

You screwed up with bit of the lyrics in the description. It should be "If this is what it feels to love". Anyways, it is a brilliant song.

This song is good.
But they stole one of Turkeys most famous instruments and used it on there songs and gave NO credit at all.
Melaliciousdork 2 years ago
why would they even give credit for an instrument they used?? Do they thank the country after each song if they play a guitar or the drums?? no...
BBallman107 2 years ago 4
I agree.
The girl who posted that comment obviously has no brains, did the Beatles thank India when they introduced the sitar to popular music? No.
Instruments don't belong to any country, music is for everyone.

@BBallman107 True, but if memory serves me correctly the eastern instrument was actaully a sample from a (turkish?) traditional song. If it was a sample from another peice of music then they should probably credit it, otherwise not. Peace.
