@figaro589 - Not really. It cost about $17 to get 3 Yamaha YM2413s(I'm gonna put one inside a custom Master System converter for the Genesis, don't know what to do with the other yet), about $2 in sockets, $2 for the circuit board I used and a few cents for some missing capacitors and resistors. The mod itself was damn tedious, I'll tell you that much.
Now, if I could put together a cartridge to play back music rips from Master System games with no sound test, it'd be perfect.
oh, right! did you leave the SN76984 chip intact, or was it replace by the YM chip. I so need a guide for this mod! my friend has a PAL model 1 SMS with a VA3 board. :)
@figaro589 - The SN76489 is a must as many games don't support the YM2413 and some like After Burner use the SN76489 for speech while the YM2413 does the rest. Also, the SN76489 is combined with the Master System's VDP inside a custom Sega ASIC, the 315-5124(the Master System II has the 315-5246). If there would have been no SN76489, many notes would have been missing from the Space Harrier theme in the Japanese v2.1 BIOS.
@figaro589 - No, but I can make one for you if you want. It's a combination of an existing YM2413 circuit along with an audio amp made by a forum member on Sega-16 which I tweaked to A) get the PSG loud enough to be audible(the circuit was designed with the Master System II in mind, in which the PSG works differently than on the original-model Master System) and B) high-pass filter the sound to make it sound like a Japanese Master System and an SG-1000 Mark III with the FM module.
@figaro589 - Beware of what YM2413s you get. I just found out the one I put inside my region-converted Master System is a FAKE!!! Beware of all YM2413s with a date code starting in 94 to 99 and anything starting with 00. If you find a YM2413B, get one with a date code that starts in 99 or smaller. DO NOT get any YM2413s with a date code starting in 00 or higher; they're most likely fake. Once I get some real YM2413Bs, I'll reupload this video.
@scmhwo - The file I used for this is a WAV file, but I can encode it to MP3 for you. But if you have anything capable of playing OGG or FLAC audio files, I'll encode the sound clip in either format. OGG and FLAC files are generally bigger than MP3s, but they sound SO much better(I hate MP3 files).
@Ace9921 I have a fast Internet connection (~12 Mb/s), so I can download it. Put up the link: (a) in the comments; (b) in the video description; or (c) send me a YT message.
I love this! you've even FM modded your SMS, haven't you. I bet that mod set you back.

@Ace9921 so can you please send me the wav file?

@Kwpolska - Sure thing. Just keep in mind: the raw WAV file is just over 150MB in size, so it may take a while to download.
