@187prettyboy He's not the greatest defender, but he's done pretty well so far. That's no disrespect when you consider the Scarlets have George North, Sean Lamont, Liam Williams and Morgan Stoddart in the squad.
all this chauvinistic talk of the USA shoulda, coulda, woulda become a rugby "super power" is bullshit. we're not the best at everything sorry. If we spent billions promoting rugby we would still recruit from out of the country, JUST LIKE WE DID THIS YEAR LOOK IT UP HALF THE PLAYERS ARE FOREIGN. so shut the hell up already.
i think anyone who knows anything about rugby would agree that if there was enough funding for american rugby at both professional level as well as grass route level i.e at grade school, then the US would be one of the best teams in the world. problem is, no one in america gives a shit about rugby so stop hating on them for sucking at it
@facialpubes Yeah no doubt, if rugby was big in the US, they would be unbeatable. The population is too big, too much talent, too many colleges, too much sponsorship money, millions of young talents, they will be a super power.
@facialpubes i disagree, you can have all the money in the world ,but you cannot buy talent, look at ireland and the population, its all down tto the love of the sport, something america will always lack
@murph277v Yeah but you throw a couple of millions into promoting and advertising, people will take up the sport in the USA. Look at the growth of UFC. It costs money to popularise a sport, you cannot do it for free. TV coverage is not cheap neither charity. And when millions of people take up the sport, they will become passionate about it and the more they see it on TV everyday, the millions of young people who end up playing it will create a wave of talent that will be hard to suppress.
@187prettyboy ufc is a good sport to watch, but you hardly see hundreds of young kids eager to play, theres a difference between someone watching and willing to play a sport..besides the yanks have too many over commercialized sports in america, they would fuck up the amatuer touch that rugby still has..they dont even have a decent club scene yet,and im not talking pro clubs, its a grass roots level where they will really lack, and college rugby isnt a huge part of the game..
@murph277v Huh? They still dont have decent grass root level? You are talkin about the now. There is scope for change. And you cannot have that change without media and TV exposure. You can criticise over-commercialisation, but if as you suggest rugby stays away from TV, newspapers, internet, it will never grow. Its like re-launching a product but hiding it under a mattress.
@187prettyboy i say they still dont have a decent grass roots level clubs.i ll give you a example of over commercialization, nfl, every 2 mins theres a fucking ad,its sick, american media would try do the same if rugby got poopular there, and sportmanshi is another thing which is in no america payed sport,it would be best for rugby if america just stayed away, and for population, ireland 6 million, england 50 million, yet england cannot beat ireland, same goes for the abs
@murph277v I am not anti-NFL , I watch it too. And Premier League. And NBA. I am a sports fan, i don't try and compare sports, the beauty is in the contrasts.
@leelockington hahah, fuck thats funny. The US are getting slightly better, it takes time. Look at japan and itally, their getting there but has taken farking ages.
the US defense is terrible man... i'm sure they'll be abit more prepared for the world cup, they always play better against better teams. It's just their defense is dare i say it... CRAP.
@Matt8929 They play purely for the love of their country...did you not see how far they went in 2007? This is a true underdog statement, they have no funding or resources...good on Tonga!
@Matt8929 For a Country with a population of barely pass the 100K mark Tonga is most likely 100 times better than whatever team you support. There are more players of Tongan ancestry in the past and coming world cup then any other nation. There were greats of the game who were Tongan, Tonga lacks funding to compete with the more established unions but their players are worldwide. That aside NZ will win the World Cup at home.
@Matt8929 dont be mad USA super sucks in rugby I dont even know why they have a team, us pacific islanders perfected rugby new zealand, tonga, samoa, and fiji so yeah shut da fucc up
@Matt8929 Aye? Tonga are pretty good for a small island. On a good day they would challange, scotland or wales. Although I know your going to say they suck as well. But there up there in the second tier teams.
@Matt8929 Bahahha yep tonga really suck at rugby seeing as they lost to 2007 world cup winners south africa by 5 point absolutely smashing usa in this game and just a few days ago beating fiji who were rank 10 45 21 usa are one of the shittest teams there is
That first try by Tonga, you can see the USA are doing the blitz defense. LOL this is not the NFL. Blitz does not work. You need to keep a straight line in defense and move forward in a line.
@dan2hamilton I'm just guessing that it's their alternate strip, they can't wear their usual red with blue stripes jersey because it would clash with Tonga's jersey.
@187prettyboy The white strip is actually the home shirt. The blue (and far cooler) shirt is the away one. Oh and the shirts the will be wearing in the Churchill Cup are entirely exclusive and specific for this competition.
@Whitedoorsareblack So will they have a new strip for the world cup? Wow they are really confusing their fans, having to buy 2 or 3 different jerseys in one year. Must be a marketing ploy.
@187prettyboy I would presume so, as most countries make some kind of modifications to their shirts for the RWC. Hopefully not though, as this Eagles' shirt is much more appealing than any of the previous ones. It's a shame that they really don't perform on the pitch though... 87-8 to England Saxons?!
@dan2hamilton dan just give USA time they will be better for these losses come world cup time....this eagles team beat has won against some tough teams.
