technically, this song, if it was about abortion, wouldn't make any sense.
the obvious situation:
this song is about a woman, a family member, or friend(antithesis of a *FRIEND?).
the author was either in a self-destructive state or something similar to it.
the person referred did nothing to help the author, so assume they knew about the authors condition.
the subject did nothing to help, therefore insulting and leaving the author feeling betrayed.

It's the very first sentence of the song "You sat and watched as I nearly destroyed myself" that makes me think the song deals with problems related to drugs but as you said the lyrics can be taken a few different ways, just the band really knows what it is about :)
