thesquonkstear, this is the BOMB! Never knew the artist name, because I was young. Thank you! This is "old school", for those who grew up in the 70"s." Thats me!
i would have sworn on a stack of bibles that this was a curtis mayfield song! all these decades i was mistaken! i dont even remember this guy! and he is still alive, too! wow!
well, if you only going to have one hit song in your career, this classic is a superb one to have.
There was a time when you could turn on a radio and hear this and other music like it and EVERYBODY loved it! People were more together then than today....and the music played an important part for everyone.
Who could say what is with it, but try thinking of it as one of the things that you're not missing if "you may not have a car at all... and just be thankful for what you've got."
Boy, I remember that song, I really loved it when I a child, we all new the Lyrics to that song, and sang continuously for hours!! Talking about fun!! That was living, back in those days!!
this guy took Curtis Mayfleid Classes! And learned well!! He put the 70's in one Classic song!!, everyone was leaning and cruising, no Sun roof top, No Diamond in the back! but i had my windows down, My 3/4" white strips, the ones that tear up at 60 miles an hr, so i had to cruise. I had a Vega! hey! SHUT UP!! at least i had a car!
yes it's a beautiful song - never knew gangsta white walls were the tires till tonight. After listening to this song since MA did the cover 17 years ago, every day's a school day!
its just that few covers surpass the original and to do that with this song is no mean feat. William deserves nothing but the best and that's nothing against the backing group for this song but they are no Massive Attack. Both versions need to be heard and should be on youtube.

You did a great job of putting this together. William DeVaughn should be proud. Too bad, you couldn't squeeze in our current president. Very nice.
I heard this song on MLK Day...and man, I hadn't heard it in years.
I'm posting it on my FB page.
Thanks again.
