you just make me want to go hoop RIGHT NOW...wow..wow...wow...its rare to see such a beautiful integration of the hardest tricks, flow, grace, technicality and sensuality.
question for ya. i get super dizzy when i twirl around like that...which i can handle that but then after a while i get a gross motion sickness feeling... does that eventually go away as you get used to doing it or am i gonna have to take Dramamine before i hoop?! haha! any advice would be wonderful!
Actually, I have the same problem and so I generally don't do long, sustained spins. I get pretty nauseous if I do. I love the feeling of the spin though, up to that point, so I like to incorporate it into my dance as much as I can. It's a very expressive and meaningful move to me. You don't have to spin for a long time for it to have an impact on you and your audience, if you perform. I am told that some folks do get used to spinning. I say, listen to your body.
I really don't know how much my hoop weighs, but it is very light. I use 125 psi 1/2" tubing and make my hoops about 31" in diameter. I don't tape them, just run some light sandpaper around the hoop to give it a little bite. My hoops have a smooth feel to them after being worn on my body for some time. I love the look of the flashy taped hoops, but don't like the weight.
I love you Beth, you are amazing and so inspiring to me with your dancing grace and your precise style. Even Phil agrees that you are something else and he is a jaded hoop widow.
