The drones were targeting the Hive ship, not the darts. The Drones are controlled telepathically, like much of the Ancient technology. If you're good enough, you can have a person do some precision sniping with the drones.

@gubaguy No ability to beam directly aboard has ever been demonstraded by the Wraith. And the drones are the ships point-defence system. Other than that, the Asuran energy weapons also seem to used to repel fighters.

@stackat0 Atlantis is a city-ship, Its shield is its hull. Aurora-class has airtight hull. Atlantis apparently doesn't and there are things like balconies. We don't know how deep their transport beams can penetrate.

@gubaguy I way I thought about it, is why hit and waste all those expensive drones on wee little darts. When you can hit the dart carrier, I mean those hives ships will just keep sending out more, so I'd rather hit the source to prevent more darts from launching. Same thing with Aircraft Carriers, you'd rather hit the carrier with 50 fighters on it rather than lets say 5 that's airborne.
