In Classical Arabic the word seal refers to the seal that is placed on documents in order to authenticate it. It serves the purpose of present day signatures and more. For example the Prophet had his own seal engraved in a ring and he said don't send any document on it till my khattam, seal, is on it (meaning that a document is not authenticated without a ring). Infact it even says this on wikipedia, your favorite source.

2) The Quran was written in Arabic not english, the word khattam does not transalte into last. The word khattam means seal, which means something that has been perfected. For example the prophet had a seal on every leter he would send, this would also be called khattam, Its purpose was the modern day purpose of a signature to authenticate and perfect the document.

In Classical Arabic the word seal refers to the seal that is placed on documents in order to authenticate it. It serves the purpose of present day signatures and more. For example the Prophet had his own seal engraved in a ring and he said don't send any document on it till my khattam, seal, is on it (meaning that a document is not authenticated without a ring). Infact it even says this on wikipedia, your favorite source.
