Its when the xbox harddrive fails and the xox does not turn on. You either have to send it in or buy a new one. So it gets the red lights. It sucks trust me :/ but it'll be worth it once i get it fixed nothing is better than the xbox live experience

When you over use the device, and it overheats melting an important part making it not work any more, it shows the red ring of death where the controller indicator is otherwise.
