What I get from this vid: Kurt doesn't like Pearl Jam's music. That's it. Not everyone has to fucking like Pearl Jam just because you fucking fanboys do. I love them too, but stop being fucking hipsters. Everyone has a right to listen to what they want whether it's Brokencyde, Kid Cudi or the Miles Davis.
@MrJamesLongstreet Like he has to say he's sorry. I've read Kurt Cobain's journals. In one part of it he talked about how "in the music industry we got stuck with Pearl Jam instead." Though today if Kurt was still alive, he'd probably think of Pearl Jam differently.
yeah...and eveyone has an opinion on something at any given time...the music stands in memory long after the man has gone, let it be, gimme shelter, Psycho killer. . .and then we die........
@MozartMkd no need to Kurt DID with a fucking lovely little baby, he blew his head off,, I liked his music and Pearl Jams, but he blew his head off like a loser, , I don' give a shit , everyone deals with depression, when you have a baby, you deal with it, hell Courtney Did, and you know what Pearl jam still plays good music
When your mentally-ill you hate a lot of things. I'm sure with time, and treatment Kurts views would have softened, and developed to the idea of Pearl Jam and other things as well. I'm not sure such gravity or finality should be given to the statements of a man that was clearly in the throes of clinical depression.
yeah, well one of them didn't blow his brains out because he couldn't handle fame. Nirvana had some good music, but the whole 'self-loathing,' i-love-misery' thing got old really quick. Pearl Jam always had better and more talent. But, Dave Grohl was the better drummer.
@5896villalaznirqueen Eddie is the Vocals of Pearl Jam. Now he also is known as Eddie Vedder as a solo artist. He did an amazing job on Into The Wild.
If anyone was really into Alternative/Post Modern/Cutting Edge music from the mid to late 80's and into the 90's, it was easy to take note of the huge slew of phenomenally good music from the other side of the pond being showcased to seemingly new audience through a few media outlets in the U.S: mainly MTV and College Radio. At the tale end of this era surfaced the grunge scene, which was embodied completely by U.S bands.
from what i understand that label "grunge" might've had a phenomenal effect for a select few bands that were jammin' in the late eighties into... now. for the most part tho the people that were there thought it was just typical media hype bullshit. that said, i love both pearl jam and nirvana and soundgarden and alice in chains etc. it's just bullshit that in order to make their jobs easier the media has to categorize everything so that it fits in their column.
@oye2a2000 and Nirvana weren't? Kurt Cobain was just a fucking smack addict. Nothing that he said had any volition because it's just random pointless shittalk. Look at his fucking wife? Come the fuck on? Is that even a human being? She is exactly the same, shit talking Dave on fucking Howard Stern saying Kurt hated his guts? Honestly, Dave Grohl is a fucking thousand times more of a musician than Kurt ever was and shes just desperately trying to get money through any source she can.
Cobain said PJ was “pioneering a corporate, alternative and cock-rock fusion”. In 1993, Pearl Jam's follow-up to Ten, 'Vs', outsold Nirvana's third album 'In Utero' by almost five copies to one. Speaking to the Sun newspaper about Cobain's comments, Vedder said: “I don’t think Kurt understood us at the time, but we became friends and I’m glad we had some of the great conversations we had, that I’m always going to keep up here.
@HowardRoark49 : Prior to Kurt's death, Mr. Cobain began openly sharing many of his musical influences, most of which were from the U.K. Most people (many not even Nirvana fans up to that point) who saw Nirvana's Unplugged performance would agree that probably the most renowned and noteworthy performance of that evening was Kurt's rendition of 'Man Who Sold The World' from David Bowie.
@HowardRoark49: In addition to Bowie, Cobain began openly admitting that he had a grand admiration for the New Wave bands, such as The Buzzcocks and Siouxie and The Banshees that had a strong presence in England from the late 70's to early 80's. Because of this admission, American record companies feared a downturn in sales and a diminishing popularity for the genre of music they had fabricated; Grunge, due to the fear that more American youth would get turned on to music from England.
@HowardRoark49 : It is for this reason that executives in high positions who only wanted to maintain preeminence and longevity in the recording industry, developed a plot to eliminate Kurt Cobain. I'm serious about this and I feel that my theory should be seriously considered.
if Kurt had lived he would've been overshadowed by the resurgence of pop music (backstreet boys,), hip hop (eminem,) the hybrid of rock/rap and other nu metal acts (system of a down/RATM) and all the redneck rock and roll that was coming out (kid rock)Everybody got sick and tired of the whole "I hate myself and I wanna die" mindset of the grunge scene.Instead of killing himself all he had to do was wait a few years. he would've got his wish and became a has been.(or became emo)
@HowardRoark49 : Think about what emerged in popularity after the waning and disappearance of the Grunge scene on American Rock Radio and music media outlets: The God Forsaken fusion of Rap and Metal that became NuMetal and a slew of Redneck inspired Rock bands like Puddle of Mud, Creed and Nickelback. In the late 90s, Radiohead, Blur and Supergrass were producing masterpieces, while all you would mostly hear on the radio or watch on MTV would be Limp Bizkit or Korn.
@HowardRoark49 : The only Blur song that was frequently played on MTV and the radio was 'Song 2,' and the only Radiohead video shown on MTV at that time was 'Karma Police' (What a Disgrace)! I'm telling everyone, the aftermath of the Grunge movement brought about greedy record executives who made a fortune for their companies and wanted to insure a monopoly for years to come. Kurt was the most recognizable voice and celebrity offering an alternative to kids that didn't know.
@HowardRoark49 : Kurt's 'suicide' was a deliberately staged murder, and the whole attention brought about regarding his supposed suicide was nothing but smoke and mirrors to distract critical listeners and devotees of good music away from the sly machinations of the recording industry elite. Just ask yourself this one question, 'why is most music played on contemporary Rock radio stations these days so drab, meaningless and unoriginal?'
At least Pearl Jam survived the 90's and kept going. The more shit I hear spew out of Cobain's mouth, the more I grow to hate his band. The guy always seemed to try and personify this ballsy, I don't care about what you thnk attitude, but didn't have the guts to pull through his own misery. Chickenshit, I'm so over it!
i hate living in a world where you put the radio on and hear souless shit some call music and MTV don't even play music anymore(i mean 3 hrs in the morn, seriously?) being a teenager in this decade is frustratiing when it comes to good music, stop asking me if i heard the latest lady gaga or taio cruz song..........i don't give a shit!!! i mean even pop music was never this bad! *sigh* props to those few bands out there realeasing good tracks tho and great bands that still perform after years.
@MrTopHatCat I'm generalizing! It's like saying that "the beatles made awesome songs" - There are songs like Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da and Yellow Submarine, which are horrible. But people still say that their songs are awesome. All of them? No. People are generalizing. And that's the same thing I did in that comment. I hope you understand my point now. And try to learn a little bit more of text comprehension.
@MrTopHatCat Yeah, I know there are lots of great bands formed within the past 5 years. But Justin Bieber isn't one of them. That's my point. I'm not saying that "nowadays music sucks". There are tons of new band that I like, but not Bieber.
And by the way, I'm seventeen, and I know how to fully understand a text, something that you don't seem to be very good at...
and you know what? if kurt was still alive he'd be making grown up music by now maybe like eddie's stuff. who knows? nobody would be that crazy about him.
what is wrong with you kids??? if you had lived in the 90s you would know that it wasnt nirvana against pearl jam. everyone loved both bands and all the others! its just now that kids are choosing sides!
When compared to nowadays music, both Nirvana and Pearl Jam are fucking great. I mean, you may hate Nirvana and love PJ (or vice-versa), but you have to agree that both of them are better than Justin Bieber.
@ehsanakbari Huhhh...Yeah, I know. I will say it again: I was generalizing. I'm not saying that every-piece-of-music-made-nowadays-with-no-exception is bad. I'm just talking abot stuff like bieber and lady gaga.
@simpsonmania18 "Compared to"? I think they made great stuff no matter what music we had before or after or will have after. Just too bad for the people who are growing up now that they have to look for new good music with a microscope.
@simpsonmania18 Yes, but everybody seems to contrast everything with Justin Bieber, and it actually brings everything else down. How is Bieber any kind of measuring stick? One could argue that both Lady Gaga and the Ramones are better than Bieber. That doesn't say anything about them, and only lowers the bar down to Bieber territory.
That was funny as hell. And it was cool that he said he was a nice guy even though pearl jam isnt that good. Couple good hits. Eddie is a bit of a douch. And his solo sucks.
All of us must respect Nirvana, they did a lot for the music. But i really really think that Pearl Jam is light years better than them. Better musicians, better singer, better songs. Pearl Jam is the greatest band of the fucking world
I get the sense that Kurt thought he was too cool for school, not wanting to be apart of the movie Singles and not liking Pearl Jam shit he was too cool to live
I like both NIRVANA and Pearl Jam, but I would say that Pearl Jam came out with some better stuff. Now maybe that's because they continued longer, or maybe they just are.
In Utero and Vitalogy are the albums that define PJ and Nirvana . These two albums express what Pj and Nirvana felt at the time which was a rejection sugar coating production and an embracing of the raw power that each of the bands possess .
Kurt LOVED to hate.. so by him not liking Pearl Jam really shouldn't put a dent into PJ's credibility or that fact they are one of the greatest rock bands of all time!
@AllyDeLarge best comment by far, shame so many zombie nirvana fans will flock to Kurts opinion like sheep rather than forming their own, it's shit like that which drove him nuts :o
are you retardads? You talk like school girls. Let me explain morons what was going on. Mother love Bone, pj member former band, never helped out Nirvana when they were starting on the business. After Nevermind got hyped, all bands that never support Nirvana started to $cash$ in kurts account. Watch the movies singles and you girls wll have a clue. Kurt was the real thing.
Listening Nirvana is a fashion for rockers. Pearl Jam is real music, it gives people hope and relief . They release our demons out of ourselves. On the other hand, Cobain was such an egoist bitch. I like some of Nirvana's songs but it isn't a question. PJ is better and the best!
@luisexuperion Pearl Jam is a better band. Love Nirvana but Pearl Jam is technically and musically a "better" band. Kurt is a taaaaaaad over-rated sometimes.
Obviously the fact that Pearl Jam plays arena rock when all of Kurt's favorite bands were punk has nothing to do with him not liking PJ. Clearly he's just being a dick right? The fact that he says he really likes Eddie further hammers home my point of him being a dick....
Let's be real people. Both are great bands, Pearl Jam put forth more albums than Nirvana (for obvious reasons) but will never hold the place in history Nirvana does, because Nirvana changed music forever. Both are legends
I don't buy for one second that he hated "Eddie's band..." Cobain was the most insecure man on the face of the planet. I'm sure had he made it beyond the 90s, they might have even collaborated.
that is the WRONG argument to make my friend. Sure it is true but... who the fuck cares about record sales?? Based on his career and everything he's said and one, Eddie does not care very much; and Kurt cared even less!!
Kurt Cobain was a dick, I'm sorry, but he was. One of the main ideas of the entire "grunge" genre was like, togetherness. It was a brotherhood. Look at the love that Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam and Soundgarden had for eachother. Cobain and Nirvana broke that brotherhood. And ya know what? PJ and AiC were better.
this is so stupid..im sure that if cobain would have said "i love pearl jam", instead of "i always hated this band" , you were all sanctifying him, by saying how good you think he was.
stop with this bullcrap , and stop claiming that you hate someone, because he hates this other band.
i, myself, like jam better then nirvana, but c'mone, this is pathetic.
Just because he's dead...Don't make a saint out of him. This seems very unclassy to diss someone's band...Especially when you realize nirvana has nowhere near the popularity Pearl Jam does...Eddie Vedder might not be as well known as Kurt Cobain, but his fame came mostly because of how he died. Sides fame isn't everything look at Bieber..
Pearl Jam rocks, I like some Nirvana, sometimes it's too depressing but whatever. He seems jealous here. Or cocky. Maybe both.
@MichaelBallack91 Be realistic, Kurt's fame has a lot more to do with the fact that his band killed off metal and paved the way for every alt rock band that has ever put out a record. Pearl Jam will never hold the place in history that Nirvana does, no matter how popular they are. Kurt's death only adds to the mystery of the most iconic man in rock since the 1990s, it has very little to do with Nirvana's place in music history.
cobain disgusts me...i liked nirvana when i was 13...no way close to the caliber of pearl jam... i'll never know why that man had such a cult following...great mystery of life
Kurt was a great artist. He left a legacy that will keep him in the rock pantheon. We will be hearing his music at least until everyone alive today dies.
There wouldn't have been a "scene" in Seattle without Andrew Wood. Mother Love Bone was the real deal. Nirvana was great too even thought Kurt stole pretty much his whole image from Mark Arm of Mudhoney. Still great though. Stone and Jeff formed Pearl Jam after Andrews death and had yet another whole new sound. Thats what is great kiddies. Lumped under a stupid title of "grunge", there were many different sounds coming out of this area. Love them all for different reasons. Now get along!
@cheegro1 Listen to 50's music. Listen to 60's music. Listen to 70's music. Listen to 80's music. And then listen to what is called grunge. You'll find it pretty clear that it is a real genre. And yeah, MLB rocks!
Guys that are going on about Pearl Jam should stop being ten... Kurt was just a man with an opinion aswell, he wasn't god. My opinion they both rocked... I liked Pearl Jam more tho.. mwah hahaha *waits for abuse*
ok first off the artist usually never put each other down, for ex jimi hendrix and eric clapton. eric was jealous of hendrix but he had alot of respect for him and never put jimi down. they were actually really good friends, same has kurt and eddie. now one thing i really respect about kurt is the nevermind was an album he made to talk to people through the media. and one thing i really respect about eddie is his into the wild album. there really is no fight between this. enjoy music, not fight
There were Pearl Jam kids and Nirvana kids.......Personally, I was all about PJ...but the reason no one gives a shit is because we fought about it constantly! Let's just Basque in our time huh? coz it was way too short!!! We like what we like...that's it
My only beef with nirvana is that everyone seems to think that they were the first and/or best grunge band. They were neither the first nor the best but far from the worst. They were just easy to sell, overrated corporate trash imho, but thats just my taste. They were the greenday of grunge. Atleast Kurt knew when to quit.. could have found a better way though. Was a sad day
how can anyone hate pearl jam. i mean it's ok not to like them but hate? give me a break , no more fake arguments about whos the best. it reminds me the oasis - blur thing which was so made up...
@andedi1 it may only be 20 seconds long, but it's amazing how this short clip has managed to spark up so much argument here, especially considering that it was recorded over 15 years ago (probably close to twenty years, now).
Who cares what Cobain thought? I loved his band and his music but the truth is that he's a snotty, arrogant music fascist who thinks no one should listen to anything he doesn't like.
Pearl Jam is an incredible band and Eddie Vedder is one of the best front men of all-time. Period.
@GhostSoldier77777 right. because he was so full of himself and thought he was so great that he...killed himself because he hated the direction that pop culture was taking him. way to make sense, man.
@GhostSoldier77777 Uhh..I never heard Cobain say that people shouldn't listen to what he doesn't listen to. He just said he hated Pearl Jam. It's his opinion.
Even though it might be argued that Kurt is a better musician than Vedder, Pearl jam is most definetaly a far greater band than Nirvana. Pearl Jam was and is a band, Nirvana was just Kurt with sidemen.
i never understood why people compare so much nirvana with pearl jam. I'd compare nirvana with mudhoney or the pixies, but pearl jam are just to me like.. the male version of alanis morisette, like a total different thing
My opinion dont matter but fuck you ima say it anyways. Nirvana is the better band. pearl jam is good tho and eddie has a better voice. but kurt has better songs.. and stp is a good band. im not a huge fan of all there songs and alot of there songs i dont like but the ones that i do like i can honestly say i like stp.

It's always wise to assume nothing...including Kurt Cobain's psyche during the time he hated Pearl Jam.
Cobain also had a problem with Pete Townsend, but I'm sure that you would chalk this up to Kurt's lousy childhood.

@simpsonmania18 .... eddies solo was some of the best music I've head in a while. wtf r u talking about?
ehsanakbari 8 months ago
@ehsanakbari Huhhh...Yeah, I know. I will say it again: I was generalizing. I'm not saying that every-piece-of-music-made-nowadays-with-no-exception is bad. I'm just talking abot stuff like bieber and lady gaga.
simpsonmania18 8 months ago
@simpsonmania18 "Compared to"? I think they made great stuff no matter what music we had before or after or will have after. Just too bad for the people who are growing up now that they have to look for new good music with a microscope.
Mrpretpakket 6 months ago

@simpsonmania18 well said.
takomaskate 5 months ago
@simpsonmania18 Yes, but everybody seems to contrast everything with Justin Bieber, and it actually brings everything else down. How is Bieber any kind of measuring stick? One could argue that both Lady Gaga and the Ramones are better than Bieber. That doesn't say anything about them, and only lowers the bar down to Bieber territory.
RipTheSystem33 5 months ago
@RipTheSystem33 Yeah, I hate that. The bottom line is Lady Gaga an JB are terrible. Nirvana and the Ramones kick ass.

That was funny as hell. And it was cool that he said he was a nice guy even though pearl jam isnt that good. Couple good hits. Eddie is a bit of a douch. And his solo sucks.
Beanzi716 8 months ago
All of us must respect Nirvana, they did a lot for the music. But i really really think that Pearl Jam is light years better than them. Better musicians, better singer, better songs. Pearl Jam is the greatest band of the fucking world

In Utero and Vitalogy are the albums that define PJ and Nirvana . These two albums express what Pj and Nirvana felt at the time which was a rejection sugar coating production and an embracing of the raw power that each of the bands possess .

I don't like Pearljam's music that much but they have a few good songs. I can only name 3 that I like. Alive, Betterman & Even Flow.
RebeliiousPunk 1 year ago
are you retardads? You talk like school girls. Let me explain morons what was going on. Mother love Bone, pj member former band, never helped out Nirvana when they were starting on the business. After Nevermind got hyped, all bands that never support Nirvana started to $cash$ in kurts account. Watch the movies singles and you girls wll have a clue. Kurt was the real thing.
guilhermecarneiro1 1 year ago
Listening Nirvana is a fashion for rockers. Pearl Jam is real music, it gives people hope and relief . They release our demons out of ourselves. On the other hand, Cobain was such an egoist bitch. I like some of Nirvana's songs but it isn't a question. PJ is better and the best!

MichaelBallack91 1 year ago
Kurt Cobain was a dick, I'm sorry, but he was. One of the main ideas of the entire "grunge" genre was like, togetherness. It was a brotherhood. Look at the love that Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam and Soundgarden had for eachother. Cobain and Nirvana broke that brotherhood. And ya know what? PJ and AiC were better.
Tigerpuffer 1 year ago 2
@Tigerpuffer WAY better!

Tigerpuffer 9 months ago 2
this is so stupid..im sure that if cobain would have said "i love pearl jam", instead of "i always hated this band" , you were all sanctifying him, by saying how good you think he was.
stop with this bullcrap , and stop claiming that you hate someone, because he hates this other band.

Or cocky. Maybe both.
MichaelBallack91 1 year ago
@MichaelBallack91 Be realistic, Kurt's fame has a lot more to do with the fact that his band killed off metal and paved the way for every alt rock band that has ever put out a record. Pearl Jam will never hold the place in history that Nirvana does, no matter how popular they are. Kurt's death only adds to the mystery of the most iconic man in rock since the 1990s, it has very little to do with Nirvana's place in music history.

Kurt was a great artist. He left a legacy that will keep him in the rock pantheon. We will be hearing his music at least until everyone alive today dies.
broadpath 1 year ago
There wouldn't have been a "scene" in Seattle without Andrew Wood. Mother Love Bone was the real deal. Nirvana was great too even thought Kurt stole pretty much his whole image from Mark Arm of Mudhoney. Still great though. Stone and Jeff formed Pearl Jam after Andrews death and had yet another whole new sound. Thats what is great kiddies. Lumped under a stupid title of "grunge", there were many different sounds coming out of this area. Love them all for different reasons. Now get along!
cheegro1 1 year ago 3
@cheegro1 Listen to 50's music. Listen to 60's music. Listen to 70's music. Listen to 80's music. And then listen to what is called grunge. You'll find it pretty clear that it is a real genre. And yeah, MLB rocks!

ok first off the artist usually never put each other down, for ex jimi hendrix and eric clapton. eric was jealous of hendrix but he had alot of respect for him and never put jimi down. they were actually really good friends, same has kurt and eddie. now one thing i really respect about kurt is the nevermind was an album he made to talk to people through the media. and one thing i really respect about eddie is his into the wild album. there really is no fight between this. enjoy music, not fight

Pearl Jam is an incredible band and Eddie Vedder is one of the best front men of all-time. Period.
