  • I cannot get certified organic using my aquaponic systems, which is quite sad because it is a fantastic method of fertigation and provides nutrient packed produce-Chemical free.

This grower is on point for using coconut coir rather than rockwool. USDA needs to pull their hands from special interest pockets , so we all could enjoy food as it should be.

Great piece and thanks Mr. Greenhouse Farmer.

  • Now when they start aquafarming, they can get rid of the synthetic fertilizers and complete the ecosystem... They can get rated organic And sell 1000 talapia and yellow perch a month to you and your fellow chefs...

  • That is great but I like to see how people do it in the home...since most don't have this kind of setup:)

  • I love your excitement and passion. thx for the info

  • Cool!

  • Why Bumble bees as opposed to Honey Bees?

  • TO-MAY-TO. Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew.

  • On the flip-side; get the stuff that is in season. Growing indoors uses a lot of electricity which isn't always bought from green sources, so sometimes the transportation pollutes less.

  • what a fraud. Tomatoes for ten dollars a pound to pay for the heating. I thought there would be some genius to this. You can grow tomatoes in your bathroom if you leave the light on; the cost is too great though.

  • These tomatoes are not organic becouse they get a petrochemical feedingsolution that all the growers use in de greenhouses.

  • The tomatoes probably don't have much taste. I was planning on keeping some plants in this winter so they'll have a headstart in spring and a big system of roots already in place but I wouldn't try to have it produce tomatoes in winter because it's so obvious that already in autumn, with less sunlight, the taste is bland.

The infrastructure is outrageous and the plants are too leafy and light-green in my opinion.

  • @suddenlyitsobvious umm did you miss the part about their family has been growing tomatoes for over 100 years on that farm. I think that some time in the past Century they figured out the best way to make tomatoes grow

  • @digmatology

Well, u may THINK, but just because people have been doing things for a long time doesn't mean they're doing it RIGHT. It's not forbidden to use our own brains, you know.

The plants look super-leafy and it's CERTAIN they won't taste the same as sun-grown tomatoes.

I quite understand they'll manage to sell them anyway.

Personally, I don't eat tomatoes in winter because MY OWN TASTEBUDS inform me they taste like shit. I rely on THAT, not on someone's supposed expertise.

  • @suddenlyitsobvious Did you watch the video? If you pull your head out of your butt and look at what they are in, it is called a greenhouse. Greenhouses are built with a roof that allows the sunlight to come through and But it keeps out the cold. Out so that you can grow all year long. It is what people have been using Greenhouses for since Greenhouses where Invented. Now stop trolling and trying to pretend that you have a smell-o-vision monitor and you can taste test online

  • @digmatology

So you know what a greehouse is!

Clap! clap! clap! clap! clap! Bravo! Bravo!

  • @digmatology

Do you always trust others rather than your own common sense and perceptions?

Besides, the entire installation is RIDICULOUS. It's just a thing about selling to restaurants who want it on their menu and who will con the clients using enough spices so they don't notice the insipid taste of the tomatoes...

It's not because something is done, or is being done since a long time, that it's good, you know?

  • @digmatology

Quite frankly, just LOOKING at the tomatoes from here, I can actually see they're almost tasteless...

  • All you need is a window that gets sun exposure and some feed now and again. Nothing fancy, just water and watch them grow!

  • bkpickell, lol. I am going to keep this information. I might try this. I have been hitting up my local market and buying fresh tomatoes. I was never a tomato lover but I am now. The idea of growing them is very nice but I often think about the neighborhood stray cats and I don't want them spraying my veggies. lol.

  • Who could afford these

  • motivational stuff right here.

  • Way to go Chef. Nicely done video. Small family operations like this grower are the backbone of America and should get our support. Particularly when they are producing a superior product.

  • he probably grows weed to

  • ... how exactly do you heat in january ? is it an oil burner - hot air blower system ? - superthankx ...

  • I really enjoyed this clip....I thought it was going to be about how to grow them in your house...but it was still great information. I'll be more thoughtful now when I think of killing a bumble bee...lol.

    Thanks for Sharing :0)

  • @MOCHAMILAN I grow tomatoes in my house, I have to say it's pretty much the same principle. You don't need all of the fancy computerized automation for a plant or two. It's a necessity when you have hundreds of plants. You also don't need the bumble bees to pollinate. I use a "personal massager". Works like a charm, as gross as it seems, but I assure you it has never been used. I also use Ebb and Flo instead of coco. And inside of the house you don't have near the pest problems.

  • his accent is GANGSTA!

  • Thankyou that was great!

  • luck here easylivinguide.co.cc

  • great video

  • Anyone else found it hard to understand the redneck?

  • FANTASTIC!

  • @GnomelandGardens - Thanks for your kind comment. My Growing Tomatoes in Winter is one of my favorite videos.

  • This is not a very ecological way of growing tomatoes. Going against nature by eating food that are out of season, what a wasteful society.

  • @aussiefifo actually genius, this is economical because it uses only 1/4 of the water that traditional farming uses, and you can do it during the winter, keeping fresh veggies available so we dont have to eat preservatives. Do some research before you make ignorant comments.

  • Computerised vegetables??? whatever next...GM foods

  • I love videos like this!! They're inspiring!! One day I'll have my own Tomato and Avocado greenhouses! Thanks Todd!

  • I would be happy to just grow 5 to 10 plants like this in the winter. I might be missing something, but what about sun light in the winter, how does he make up for shorter days and less sun light?

  • I wish I had a bumblebee nest in my back yard or front yard :( My friend has tons of bumble bees and they have a nest in their backyard and the bees really do a good job at pollinating all of those flowers and then they get good crops :) I on the other hand just get bees or any type of pollinating insects come from wherever and pollinate my plants here and there :)

  • dont forget its still eating shit , not naturrall

  • pretty neat

  • Alton Brown shops at Sam's Club.

  • I'm hungry already... through watching this vid.

  • Thanks Chef! I would love to grow some tomatoes but I live in an apartment with no balcony and 2 cats. haha

  • @crkathleen If you want to have a little plant with tomatoes on it, put in the flowerpot with a plant a three flakes of onion. Bon'appetite :)

  • thanks for the vid chef

  • excellent video Todd! 5 stars

  • Fascinating. The amount of money that has gone into his business must be staggering...

  • @Byrnzi360 - I'm sure there's a tremendous investment in trying to bring us the best ingredients. THIS IS WHY YOU SHOP AT YOUR LOCAL MARKET!! Not the national food chain that buys from another country.
