Me and my cousin did that once...in a lake though. We decided we wanted to take the boat out by ourselves. Only thing was we didn't know how to paddle. So my uncle ended up having to come out on a floatie raft and get us. We got in so much trouble!

Its silly to fault the parents as bad. My only problem with them is that they should have been more attentive for boys will b boys. As for the spanking thing, if my kids put me through that I'd say the same thing (kinda like telling some1 if u die i'll kill u). Also, where I come from, spanking works - crime is low, we don't have civil r external wars, we respect our elders, there's no need for Boot Camp, and we don't kill for oil. + Black men were our leaders for years (hint to USA). LOL!!!!!!!

i live near the beach in Australia Queensland near Australia zoo and i learnt how to swim before i could walk or crawl. I have been caught in many rips but i have swum out of all of them without any help from life guards. oh and im only 13 and i always swim and i am a really good survival swimmer(swim above the water and not below it) it really helps when your caught in a rip.

I never understand why people don't teach their kids how to swim. Little kids can learn, and it's not that hard. They don't have to know all the strokes or be Olympic swimmers or anything, but just knowing how to tread water, float, or doggie paddle can save a kid's life. Especially if people are going to be going to the beach or have a pool... it's hard for kids to resist the temptation of going in the water on a hot day.

I agree my parents never taught me. Not only was it embarrassing sometimes being the only kid that couldn't. I also missed out on allot of the fun kids have around water. I finally taught myself a few years back.

Just to give everyone a heads up Today its illegal to hit and to spank any child even if you do not have kids its illegal. Back then it was not but today it is.

It's legal in all US states. Minnesota is the only state that has laws that make it hard to do. However even that has changed since last year. If you notice you don't hear many cases of parents getting arrested anymore unless there are clear signs of abuse. The courts time and time again supports a parents right to spank, even if light bruses are left.

I was in the middle of the poool when I haven't had much swimming lessons yet so I was swimming in the middle and my friend who was 6 was blocking my way to the wall. I screamed help in another language and no one heard me or saw my and my fiend just kept swimming. So I pushed her down in the water and I got to the wall then I pulled her back up. I toke swimming lessons afterwards. But I am still working on getting rid of the vision.
