No band spoke to my teenage years better than the Who. All my anxiety & rage, love & hate comes through in the music of the Who. Pete's words are gold, as his voice.
Every year is the same And I feel it again, I'm a loser - no chance to win. Leaves start falling, Come down is calling, Loneliness starts sinking in. But I'm one. I am one. And I can see That this is me, And I will be, You'll all see I'm the one. Where do you get Those blue blue jeans Faded patched secret so tight. Where do you get That walk oh so lean Your shoes and your shirts All just right. But I'm one etc. I got a Gibson Without a case But I can't get that even tanned look on my face <3
Anyone living on the breadline will be able to identify with this song,Pete has such a genius way of connecting with your average joe in the street, thats what i admire so much about his songwriting..Quadrophenia is my favourite album of all time..breathtakingly brilliant.
The Who are by far my favourite band. I feel that I have a real personal connection with Pete's music and the band, it's almost as if they're speaking to me. Whenever I hear The Who mentioned on T.V or on the radio, my ears prick up as though I just heard the name of a friend. Truly, one of the greatest bands ever, in my opinion
as a 20 something I find myself attracted to older music like The Who... Screw all this Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber crap. Hail the era where recording artists held talent!
@lauallred I was very much the same way in my twenties, and there is sooooo much great music that newer generations will never, ever hear because they will never have exposure to it and won't seek it out on their own. You have good taste!
Look, the Beatles and the Stones were okay and had some good songs BUT THE WHO had a different connection to something a bit beyond in our conscience. You Who fans know what i'm talking about. But for the rest of ya, when you hear that redundant question about "The Beatles or The Stones?," just answer THE WHO!!!!!!!! No apologies!!!!!
@8DoverNJ Disagree. To me, The Beatles were the band that "had a different connection to something a bit beyond in our conscience." But yeah, The Who were/are also brilliant. Townshend is a genius songwriter; one of the best.
@8DoverNJ They're great bands all of them. I'm not a big Stones fan, so when I hear the question I usually say that my two fave bands are the Beatles and the Who. As a teen, I adored the Beatles, but as I've matured the Who have taken on greater prominence. Both bands have meant a great deal to me in different ways. I usually hate comparing/rating bands--it's all how a band speaks to an individual. I could see how the Stones would be a person's #1 band depending on that person's upbringing.
@JohnnyCxviii Yeah, it's all preference in the end. Everyone has a different life experience. I have much respect for the Beatles but I definitely connected a great deal with The Who's music especially during my years in Indoctrination Camp aka High School. Your comment about Pete's voice being perfect for "I'm One" is well said, btw. Many Thanks.
@8DoverNJ my 12 yr old and 10 yer old love the old heavy rock, they think just cos it is on their guitar hero game that they are the ones that know it all and not us
This song was made for Pete's voice and no one else's. "I'm a loser, no chance to win." I felt like that during my teen years. Everyone else's life seemed so much easier, as if they knew the script and I did not. It takes a vulnerable yet angry voice to do this song justice. Pete nails it.
this is a very nice song to leacing to when you are chilling

0:38 - 0:52 is the greatest musical moment for me as a listener. That bit just speaks to me somehow...and so does the rest of the song.

Every year, every autumn, I listen to this song. Not their best song, but it genuinely makes me cry, but bloody hell, how it boosts my confidence.
