This was a very memory filled video, thanks for sharing. I did notive there were parts of the video that were not from the last day but it was nice that you added them, to complete the Astroworld memories!!
this was the dumbest mistake that six flags has ever made. I've never been there but it looks awesome. and now were stuck with stupid fiesta Texas. at least we still have memories
@Wildcatsleader44 No, you have to understand why this happened. See, when the new NFL franchise, the Houston Texans, was created, they didn't want to use the Astrodome. So they built a whole new stadium for the team. Unfortunately in doing this they converted a large section of the parking lot. This meant less customers and less revenue for Six Flags and so they had no choice but to close the park.
It's a shame i cold not go to this park before it closed. but i live in Missouri and thats a far trip that my parents wouldn't go for. if i had the chance to go I WOULD, but i could not.
its the song they play on the end of a series in supernaturl :) but still i never got to go here. how much i would give to go to this amusment park for at least an hour:(
Wow, almost felt as though i was there again. Thanks for posting this vid...
And fuck six flags for tearing down this wonderfull place. Should have left it sit for a couple of years and then reopened. Bet u would have made a ton of money but yall have shit for brains. No w we have to go to overcrowded fiesta, witch dont feel like astro world or comes close to it. Laterz.
When your a kid, Astroworld and Waterworld feel so HUGE! But now when I pass the feild where it use to be it looks so small. I still find it hard to beleive ALL of that fit in that feild. I cry when I pass by it :,(
Kieran Burke is an idiot. He tore down the park believing the land was worth more that the park itself. They were expecting $150 million or more. It cost 20 million just to tear it down. In the end they only got $77 million and Burke lost his job. The land is now just an empty lot. Stupid busness decision. They did the same thing in Nashville when they tore down Opryland to build a stupid mall. The mall flooded and is now closed.
Im sooo happy people are thinking about building a 500 acre amusement park in Sugarland! Btw Astroworld was only like 150 acres so this park will be HUGE!
@gta4fan600 No 2 reason 1. Six Flags needs no more money. 2.Fiesta Texas has a HIGH attendence rate astroworld lacked somewhere along the line. 3.They want to keep Fiesta Texas away from competetiors (Cedar Fair,Busch Gardens, and Universal Studios) Knowing each one of those lack in the south they keep as many south parks. So it won't happen to Fiesta Texas,if anyparks where sold it is beleived it would be Six Flags America.
hope all those who had a hand in destroying astroworld i would of liked to have taking my family there. you guys suck whoever you are you rat coward bastards..........go to hell..................capitalism and greed killed astroworld. what else are we suppose to go to have fun nasa oh thats right no more money for that either...
@isaiah406 Six Flags needed money and one idiot thought astroworld was a good park to sell....Weeks later he was fired Astroworld was one of the highest attendence parks. Greetings from San Antonio.
Houston today is not like how it used to be, it's just a boring suburban sprawl land with even more suburbs surrounding the metropolitan area. I left Houston city limits during the white flight of the early to mid 2000s and as of today in 2011 everytime I go back it's so bland over there with poverty and I hardly ever see any white people where I used to live. I now live in The Woodlands, a suburb with extremely conservative soccer moms and it's even more boring than Houston. 1998 were the days!
@dangal94 Im with you. I live near Dallas now and went to Six Flags Arlington last year, but didnt quite have the same feeling of Astroworld. Miss it.
it made me cry because i never got to experience that place and it looks like the funnest place ever and damn the people who tore it down you killed thousands of people's childhood memories
I went there once, and my dad promised to take me there again. the next week it closed. i miss it and can remember all those amazing memories i had with my family. I MISS YOU ASTROWORLD!
i loved astroworld my mom and i went every summer and rode every ride at least a hundred times..our favorite was the in the dark roller coaster and grease lightning!
@racersharpless Yes it will,a park that is supposed to compete with Disneyland! But is supposed to be done in 2014 and started next year! But with Fiesta Texas and Six Flags Over Texas i give it one year before it's bought out! The name Texas Adventure! In 2015 Six Flags Texas Adventure(after it's bought).
I know. He's trying to twist my words or whatever. I said my grandpa, my dad, and his friend all had to REBUILD and put together most of the rides. And paint them. But you guys are making too big a deal about this. I know what my family did and you or anybody else has to care. Can we please just drop this conversation already?

@113amanda It wont but if it did it would be the last out of texas Fiesta Texas and Over Texas plus Over Geogia would stay Over Texas and Georgia because their the first two and will never closed down cause they are owned by a partnership and fiesta texas cause it is from their home state they would retreat to texas cause thats where there from so dont worry east's six flags would close first west is safe!
what is the song at the slideshow part and astroworld looked fun i would want to vist it if it was still opened now all i have is Fiesta Texas and Over Texas im from San Antonio area and all we have is Fiesta Texas not so big but it will do Never Got to go to Astroworld wish i could :(
thats sad :( but the ultratwister is currently sitting in pieces at six flags america in maryland next to the superman ride of steel...six flags america is my homepark but we usaully go to six flags great adventure in new jersey...hopefully one day they will build the ultritwister again and in the maryland one because we havent gotten a new coaster in 9 years :/
when i was 6 it closed down....now im 12 and its sad cause i grew up going to astro world every sunday we would go and ever since 2009 everything changed..we became poor,i found out i had chronic neotrupenia,my dad cut his hands on a table saw and our shop got robbed....now we rarely go anywhere i have to say astro world we'll miss you
What was the reason for closing it down?? I remember going out there all the time it is sad its not there anymore.I remember seeing on tv that they were auctioning off all the rides,etc..
I loved this place. My grandpa built it and my mom and dad took me every weekend. It's terrible to drive by and see it as a piece of grass and dirt that's used as rodeo parking. I still remember where everything was..and all the memories that went with them.
@raynie96 MEN!!! I was to short to ride the Batman ride, so i never got to ride it;( Sucks...But I DID RIDE TEXAS CYCLONE!!!XD And the Greezed Lightnin' was my favorite one;D Cause it was sooo fast!!!lol
@XxXHoustonBabyXxX Me neither... but I rode the Texas Cyclone a million times. I never rode Greezed Lightnin' but that was my mom's favorite. My favorite was the XLR8.
@raynie96 Im telling you batman used to be at SFMM as Shockwave and replaced with riddle's revenge so it was moved toSFA as Batman so he either paited and rebulit it or didnt do anything but i think he means he painted and REbuilted it
@raynie96 he is right bur forgot one park. it was originally at sfmm as shockwave then moved to sfga as shockwave and then astroworld at batman the escape and now its in storage at darien lake since 2006.
I miss astroworld. Even though all the memories are faint since i was about 7 it was still THE best amusement park ever! I hope they rebuild it somehow since theres nothing there anyway. :'(
this is so sad, it makes me almost cry!! WHY in the world did they close our beloved Astroworld? I can't drive past it without being depressed either. Our own six flags down the street.. it was so awesome, now the closest is all the way in San Antonio. WHY??
SOO DEPRESSED WITHOUT IT..THEY BROKE A 6YR OLD'S HEART N 2005!!! WHICH WAS MY HEART..WHEN I WAS 2 I START GOING THERE..NOW IT'S GONE AND MY LIL SIS DON'T KNOW NOTHIN ABOUT ASTROWORLD..WHICH IS SAD :(
This was a place you could go with your family, a place to have a wonderful date, a place to celebrate a birthday... Why did they take this away from us?
@drumgawd11 Astroworld was a great place until the gangs started hanging out there. They would show up and run wild all day until closing. They sure ruined a good thing. Also at Waterworld they would cut in line and I got in many fights there. I had a few tossed out though.
I miss this place so much. So many memories as a kid, Texas Cyclone was my first rollercoaster ever, and The Viper was my first coaster with a loop ever. I can't even look at it when I go to the Rodeo, so sad that's its gone :/
Oh, and people complained about waiting in 5 mile lines in the hot Houston sun.
IT'S FREAKING HOUSTON PEOPLE!! The most populated city in Texas with a park that is smaller than Six Flags in Arlington and San Antonio. Do the math people. Of course you're going to be waiting.
I moved away from Houston in 2001 and moved back in 2008. When I was gone, meanwhile, I heard that they closed down. It broke my heart but I realized they asked for it. I think the last time I was there was in the summer of 2000 and it was already showing signs of major depreciation. They were refusing to keep sufficient security there, they weren't maingtaining any rides, people were bringing their lunch instead of buying the overpriced food and that equaled major debts in the long run.
I really miss that place..SO many memories there!! My first time ever on a roller coaster was the Viper..then my fav was serial thriller I wish it was still there I would have loved to have been able to take my kids there someday and have them get to have fun there just like I did!! It really is a shame that its gone forever and for what reason...?!
I wished it never ended, why didnt they just like, rebuild it somewhere else in texas? or houston? now we need to drive all the way to freakin san antonio to have fun at a six flags. WTF is up with that? astroworld was the best six flags in the universe! BRING BACK ASTROWORLD!!!!! I DONT WANNA DRIVE TO FN SAN ANTONIO!!!!
@Blabist at least yall got a park, in louisiana where sixflags neworleans was its a big abandoned park full of rides that prolly still work but noone wants to buy it
that sucks becuse of g.bush we have no astro world in houston texas now we got to wate for the rodeo fuck this shit im going to g jackulat justs playing lol
I was there on the last day from open to close, It was my senior year in high school and me and a few of my friends went for the last time. when it was closing time a lot of people where crying, there where even people up on top of the entrance sitting up there and crying. I wish it was still here i never got a chance to take my husband there so all he's got is me telling him about how it was. We used to get season passes and go every summer as much as possible.
Six Flags Over Texas is where I grew up going and now I work there, I love love love it, I can't imagine how I'd feel if it got closed down. I never got a chance to visit Astroworld, just crummy ole' Fiesta Texas
Man those were some good times.... every summer me, my dad, my two brothers and some of our freinds would go there and ride as many rides as we could. then at the end of the day i would remember my ankles would have so many aches. but man its a bummer how they haven't yet used the land. could have least let the park stay for a couple years more :"""""(
lol rember the long walk across the bridge leaveing to the parking lot? and btw they finaly used the land... it's not the offical rodeo parking lot but once the rodeo is over the land will be out of use
the most thrilling thing in houston that last for 3 weeks and with carnival rides, I can't wait to see some cowboy get destroyed by a bull! And yet I stand out there staring at the empty dirt lot with a bridge that leads to nothing that isn't used. It's like nothing was there at all the ghost of people having a great time ended
great vid. rip astroworld. what is the song before carry on my wayward son during the slide show? anyone know. again this was an awesome vid. i would have loved to go on grezzed lightnin
I went there in 1982. I was just a little baby.. but I still remember everything about AW. I had always promised to myself I'd came back there..until I knew It had been closed! It's so sad...
that batman roller coaster got moved to my local park, Darien Lake in New york in the last year six flags had the park. It's still in pieces cause the new owner, PARC doesn't want to build it. they should really tear down this cruddy woody called the predator we have and put it up though. we also have a waterslide from astroworld too. that's set up in the waterpark.
This is incredibly sad, especially for me and my family. My father worked there for 15 years as the head painter. He painted mostly all the rides. ) : I was there last day and god. it was painful to know that soon it would all be gone. I can't even look at it when we drive past it, I know my dad can't either. Our lives have literally been turned upsidedown since it's closing. & No, i'm not looking for symapthy or anything, so don't trash talk me please.
@namzurk I know its nothing in comparison to Astroland but i felt the very same when the Spanish City in Whitley Bay UK shut down. It was a funfair i grew up with and when it went it ruined the town in my opinion.
These places live on in our hearts and minds. great video man.
Just wondering man but why did it shut in the end ?
This was a very memory filled video, thanks for sharing. I did notive there were parts of the video that were not from the last day but it was nice that you added them, to complete the Astroworld memories!!

This was a place you could go with your family, a place to have a wonderful date, a place to celebrate a birthday... Why did they take this away from us?
drumgawd11 1 year ago

Of course you're going to be waiting.
rockergirl83 1 year ago
I moved away from Houston in 2001 and moved back in 2008. When I was gone, meanwhile, I heard that they closed down. It broke my heart but I realized they asked for it. I think the last time I was there was in the summer of 2000 and it was already showing signs of major depreciation. They were refusing to keep sufficient security there, they weren't maingtaining any rides, people were bringing their lunch instead of buying the overpriced food and that equaled major debts in the long run.

I didnt know the Kemah Bullet has a bigger drop than the Texas Cyclone

Six Flags Over Texas is where I grew up going and now I work there, I love love love it, I can't imagine how I'd feel if it got closed down. I never got a chance to visit Astroworld, just crummy ole' Fiesta Texas
bigfellakid 1 year ago
Man those were some good times.... every summer me, my dad, my two brothers and some of our freinds would go there and ride as many rides as we could. then at the end of the day i would remember my ankles would have so many aches. but man its a bummer how they haven't yet used the land. could have least let the park stay for a couple years more :"""""(
gangsta37900 1 year ago
lol rember the long walk across the bridge leaveing to the parking lot? and btw they finaly used the land... it's not the offical rodeo parking lot but once the rodeo is over the land will be out of use

We're getting something better than Astroworld; look up Earthquest Adventures. It's going to be on the largest parks in the country.

man that sucks....now we have to wait for the rodeo/carni.. to come once a yr...for like 3wks
madhouse377 2 years ago 7
the most thrilling thing in houston that last for 3 weeks and with carnival rides, I can't wait to see some cowboy get destroyed by a bull! And yet I stand out there staring at the empty dirt lot with a bridge that leads to nothing that isn't used. It's like nothing was there at all the ghost of people having a great time ended

that batman roller coaster got moved to my local park, Darien Lake in New york in the last year six flags had the park.

& No, i'm not looking for symapthy or anything, so don't trash talk me please.
namzurk 2 years ago 28
@namzurk I know its nothing in comparison to Astroland but i felt the very same when the Spanish City in Whitley Bay UK shut down. It was a funfair i grew up with and when it went it ruined the town in my opinion.
These places live on in our hearts and minds. great video man.
Just wondering man but why did it shut in the end ?
