Our 14yr chow has a tumor, apparently there is a lot of blood in the tumor so tests were inconclusive, she had a much smaller mammary tumor removed 4yrs ago (benign) maybe that's all this is. Her tumor is about grapefruit size, & we are given no good choices: put her to sleep, have the surgery and if it can't be removed, put her to sleep, do nothing an wait until it kills her. Is there anything else we can do to make the right decision, a surgeon referral for the San Francisco, CA area?
@StopTheMurder The owners had taken the dog to another veterinarian many months earlier - when it was too small to feel. Since nothing was found, they were not worried. The tumor grew slowly and probably was not as obvious to them. Amazingly, he was eating fine and not vomiting!
Thank God Max survived that surgery. He must feel so much better and light on his feet. The cavity was Huge when it came out! How is he doing? Is he starting to feel better yet? How old is he? Hope he has many years of a healthy happy life.

Amazing and so happy the dogs life was saved. But why did the owner allow it to get that size before having something done?

Man, I wouldn't drink the tap water in that city! Might want to consider changing dog food brands as well. Maybe fido deserves the good stuff.

It's good to know he's doing well, but why was it left to get so big?
