  • But I do have a question - why do people think they can reserve places with chairs, even in front of their own houses (use your windows!), a week in advance? What about us visitors? I don't think that's right or fair.

  • @theOlLineRebel it is fair. Get over it ok. Its the tradition of Catonsville. Get your seats early. You can't see very well from the windows in Catonsville since everyone has trees in their yards. What next...chop all the trees down? So most of us can't see out the windows. Imagine the chaos of everyone trying to get their seats the day of the parade. Understand why we do that now? If you are a visitor...you can get your seats reserved a week ahead as well...you are welcome to.

"Tradition" - nice. Just like people taking blankets in early at Columbia fireworks.

Chaos? What about all the people visiting who just wing it and go down there to find they are automatically crowded out? You say you can't see from your street-sitting house, but you have the advantage of getting to the curb in 5 seconds instead of an hour, AND not dealing with any packing.

BTW, growing up I had the best seats - easy access to the roof of our house all my cousins could watch the Columbia fireworks, complete with big booms. We haven't been able to watch from there since c.1990, mostly because of neighbors' trees. Now you can't see anything. So I know about trees and other things in the way. I'm talking especially when you have front-row seats as it is - houses on Frederick/Main.

  • I would love to go here again. It's been so long seeing any parade. My sister used to be in them as lead majorette in the Liberty Belles (I think I was only in Ellicott City for a parade or 2 myself), as well as younger she was in a Catonsville-based baton corp, but can't remember the name.
