  • wow what a great song too bad sly be hittin the crack pipe now

  • @OdeOdeOde7777 he was just doing his job

  • IF YOU ONLY U WERE THERE!

  • RHCP 1985 if you want me to stay Sly Stone 1973 if you want me to stay --You are viewing If You Want Me To Stay (Sly Stone) lyrics performed by Red Hot Chili Peppers. The song lyrics for If You Want Me To Stay (Sly Stone)

  • YoungBlood!!!Aye I got next and you know that's my table!

  • Sly and the Family Stone! Funkdafied at its finest!

  • Whats going on cool breeze?

  • Sly did the original version. And maybe the reason you found it in the rock section is because us old "hippies"loved Sly.There's just something about good FUNK.

  • So funky...

  • If your white, go listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers version (original)

    (;

  • @EchoXxMcLovin Do you have to be white? I was looking for their greatest hits and sly was in the rock section.

  • @EchoXxMcLovin ...correct me if i'm wrong, but it looks to me like you just said the RHCP version was the original.

Please, please tell me I interpreted your comment wrong.

  • @mentalmike13 Well, if I'm not mistaken (along with about 100 other sites), the release date for RHCP's version(original) released before Sly's(cover) did.

  • @EchoXxMcLovin which sites are these? because wikipedia states Sly and the Family Stone released it circa 1973; whereas the RHCP album "Freaky Styley" was released 1985. and, just because i know wiki isn't always reliable, Anthony Keidis's own autobiography "Scar Tissue" even states that RHCP covered If You Want Me to Stay.

  • Awesome!!!!

  • Great Movie & Great Song

  • Absolute legends! Puts a smile on my hungover face..

  • Trafalgar's pub Chelsea the 70's.Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.

  • Does anyone else think of David Blain's Street Magic from the 90's when they hear this song? When he was in memphis??

  • Seriously - Who can honestly dislike this?

  • the bass just makes you scrunch up your face as if you smell the funk! the ISH!

  • hands down.......the Mozart of Funk....amen....nuff said...punto y final.

  • It just rocks my soul!

  • old dog made this song walkin back down in the spot where he made it from this shit is classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sly Stone is apparently living on the road - literally and figuratively - these days. To me he was and continues to be hugely influential regardless of the disorganization and additictions that have been with him much of his life. I just hope he can take it easy sometime. This is one of my favs of all time.

  • @pwrbroker1 i read on yahoo news that he is homeless living out of his van in crenshaw LA very sad

  • @heybert05 I know -- saw the same. He's a character and has lived pretty hard and had a wild life...Cocaine and crack drew him in years ago. Whatever the case, it would be good to know that he has been taken care of as he has so many huge fans and always will.

  • im a ghost and this song slaps ha! BOOOOO(rattling chains)!!!

  • That Bass talkin!!!!!

  • Thank you, cherishshanae! Has anyone heard the instrumental song by Sly & the Family Stone called "Sex Machine" from their - I think - first album? I can't find this song anywhere. Hopefully, someone can post it!

  • @jojamful Oh yeah...."WE BLEW YO MIND!" Ha ha! Love that one. It's on the "Stand" album which was their 4th album and it came out in 1969 before the Woodstock performance. One of the greatest albums of the '60s. I HIGHLY recommend getting the Sly and The Family Stone "The Woodstock Experience" 2-CD set that came out in 2009 to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock. It has the entire show, encore and all, on the 2nd disc! Band KILLS IT FROM THE FIRST NOTE TO THE LAST!!!!

  • RHCP does an awesome cover of this. But ya can never beat the original :D

  • hot hot!

  • RE-RE-REWIND! 0:00

  • I absolutely love this song. The lyrics is for a real player...like me. hahaha

  • Easily one of the sickest bass lines ever.

  • @drumtravelfun awwwwww man thats bass is the shit huh?!

  • @chemx28 Truly is! One of my favorite bass lines. That's Drake's uncle, Larry Graham on bass btw

  • @LordShabazz Its a shame that when I say "Drakes uncle is Larry Graham"...most people say "who!?"....SMH!!!

  • @ambushIV Imagine that! Damned shame! I was corrected on this though, and I checked it: Sly Stone himself played the bass on this track. Larry Graham had left the group by then, and although Rusty did some bass work on this album (as did Larry Graham), neither of them did "If You Want Me To Stay". That was all SLY!

  • @drumtravelfun Fo Sho! (Pantomining playing the bass, doing serious head banging)

  • @drumtravelfun You know it!!!! I love playing this. You know that's Drake's uncle Larry Graham on bass btw

  • @drumtravelfun Totally agree, the bass line, when played good, truly stands out from the song.

  • @drumtravelfun ITS EAS TO PLAY TOO.

  • Love this music the bass is great go dad.

  • bass is the bizz!

  • Finally! I've found the She's Dope sample!

  • this is the very best of Sly... no doubt

  • sounds like prince singing.

  • One of Prince's Greatest Influence: Sly & The Family Stone!

  • my husband said @ tine time he was singing snd sending me a message through this song.

  • never put some crap like Wayne on this level

  • The Ol skool lil wayne HuH.. in this 1

  • One of the original funk masters, and if you think about it, you'll find that, before there was Rick James or Bootsy Collins, or George Clinton, or Slave, there was Sylvester Stewart b.k.a Sly Stone, A Funk Legend.

  • The words make alot of sense, dude, just listen to it

  • he was high as hell when he did this....listen to the words....it makes no sense but this is a great song

  • I can't believe I've never heard this song before... it is so sick!!!!

  • thee anthem.. this that funk

  • Way Tuff

  • ♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ ♭♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ ♭♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ ♭♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ ♭ #MyOldies

  • I don't know whay Sly was on when he made this song....whatever it was....I WANT SOME! THE BEST BASS RIFF EVER!

  • it's not my all time favorite sly and the family stone song, but it just might have the best groove of any of them!

  • I think I love this band ! haven't listened to them a lot but their sound seems to be energic, funk, rock, acid, even sometimes industrial... It makes me very confident for what i will find out

  • @slihfshf They are pioneers of electro-funk (bass driven funk) and psychedelic soul. Everyone NEEDS to listen to these cats!

  • @HllywoodNova cates lol..nice

  • @surfstrat59 It wasn't larry he left the band before this album came out, everyone thinks sly did it but it was actually Rustee Allen who replaced Larry playing this bass line

  • @surfstrat59 It wasn't Larry, He left the band by this time. Everyone thought it was sly but it was Rustee Allen Larry Graham's replacement

  • i love this funky track the bass is the bomb

  • The base got me in critical condition daddy

  • A transcription of the bass pt. 4 this song appears in the Oct 2006 issue of Bass Player magazine. The article written by Chris Jisi:

"The ambitiously named 'Fresh' hit the streets in early July. A stripped-down, more raw outing than previous Sly albums, the 11-track set was boosted by the bass waves of Graham's hand-picked replacement, Rustee Allen. Sly himself laid down some of the album's bass tracks, but it was Rustee whose lilting line drove "If You Want Me To Stay," the disc's hit single.
