Every hit in the middle of the racket, footwork as brilliant as it could be, every ball landing on the line.....Djokovic can be happy he only played doubles there.
The umpire doesn't have the right to call these calls off of his opinions of how the player plays. All because he double faulted, doesn't mean he isn't trying. It could mean he's tired or does have an injury, but wants to continue playing because he's winning.
an umpire's discretion in this regard isn't enough... it should be addressed after the game... with that said, davydenko has a shady history regarding this kind of thing, as and as for people say "you wouldn't be able to tell with the best pros" or "they make so much money"... you a) should look up the career prize money for the best pro players b) remember he isn't one, and c) look at the monstrous amounts of money alledgedly connected to him. big enough to dent ANY tennis pros earnings.

This is the stupidest call ever. If a player decides to tank a match it's their problem. If Davdenko did throw any match because of betting I'm sure he was under some threat, this guy usually tries pretty hard.

True. I agree that it's ridiculous. How can the chair umpire even know if Davydenko was giving his best. And the umpire is actually suggesting that Davydenko should have taken a medical timeout. That's crazy. I got a bit confused on that part since Davydenko's english isn't the best. Did Dav request for a doctor and then the umpire wouldn't allow it?

The umpire shouldn't have warned him because a couple of double faults and a few unforced errors doesn't warrant that.Coria should be warned every time he plays because of his double faults plus womens tennis matches are decided by double faults and errors so why dont all the crap women players get warnings.Having said that dav is a cheat and there is no doubt he fixed the match at sopot.$12,000000 was held on the match and money kept coming for arguello even though he went behind by a set.

I remember Safin receiving one at Wimbledon when he lost and proclaimed that he would never play at the event again because he detests grass.
Although innocent until proven guilty, the odd variances in performances, particularly in the year of 2007, warrant an investigation and these types of warnings within matches do paint a terrible picture for what Davydenko been embedded in and of which no other player has a problem.

wtf?! the umpire is so full of crap..he probly wanted to show off his authority and pounced on any chance to do it.kolya is an awesome dedicated player but he is after all human and if he wasn't playing to his 100% potential,it's his bloody business..and it seems the ump was subtly hinting "you shouldn't be losing to cilic" which isn't very fair..but i have to say tho this has got to be the only time i've seen davydenko speak that much and show that much emotion..i found it quite entertaining.

Macenroe would not have fixed matches. This match wasn't fixed, but he obviously wasn't trying to the best of his abilities for whatever reason.
The ATP are obviously trying to force Niko out of the sport, and I really do hope they succeed

hey according to the ITF the rules clearly state that a chair umpire may hand down this penalty based on his judgement! This is a power given by the ITF so leave the chair ump to do his job.

if you follow tennis you'll know Davydenko has played the most tournaments out of all the ATP players on tour and so fatigue must have started to wear him down towards the end of the season. Anyhow the umpire here is an idiot, he obviously has no idea what it is like to play tennis at the highest level, the ATP should get rid of him.

also take into consideration that Davydenko is playing a tournament in his home country, and that he probably has a lot of fans there, why would he tank a match in front of his countrymen, and also has anyone considered the fact that Marin Cilic is loaded with talent and has top 10 potential one day, ive seen him play in person and i was very impressed with him

Silly... and it is right, Davydenko by far is the player with most matches in his bones, it is just human that he doesn't play perfect till end of season.
