  • Too much distracting for me. I'm switching to XFCE, great alternative for gnome 2

  • Could be worse, they could gather the windows into stupid "application bundles"

  • It could be better ! Some performance problem on GUI need to be solved !

  • After using a bit I must say that I really LOVE gnome3.I wish I had it at work (where I have to use Windows).

  • why so much hate? i kinda like it and its also quite stable on my pc

  • GNOME 3 doesn't work well in Virtual Box even after installling VBOXAdditions. :-(

  • The audio is bad but I got used to it rather quickly. I so appreciate you putting this together. I am very much interested in Linux/Gnome but am not in a position to use it at the moment. Thank you very much for providing this video.

  • OpenSUSE or Fedora because I have used Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Debian, Fedora and now I will migrate to OpenSUSE, This looks alot like FEDORA 15!

  • no no no! gnome 3 took the fun away from computing.

  • You can turn of or reboot the computes by holdin atl wjile you clic the log out menu item.

  • damn, gnome guys really screwed things up didn't they? even in the most reliable distros implementing gnome 3 make them look buggy and unstable. :(

  • Gnome 3 still have problem with ati driver .

Every time i need to sleep my laptop ,when i open it again x-windows it crash.

I can't load or open anything or even move mouse

    Even I'm try ctrl+Alt+backspash or ctrl+alt+PrtSc+b or Alt-PrintScreen-U and Alt-PrintScreen-B.

    It,s not work.

  • It supposed that it will be gnome 3 review according to video title, but i've seen tonns of useless obvious information not connected to gnome 3 at all. Bad review. But still there were some useful observations =)

  • It's much better on Fedora.

  • Audio to this review is nasty and crackling and I can't bear to listen to it, try again, perhaps with a different container or audio codec.

  • @kie7077 have deleted opensuse now so cant do another video

  • @novelldesktop Now that it is deleted, what do you have to replace it? ;)

  • is it an os?

  • @ManfernoPryrus It is a shell, the OS in this case is OpenSuse, a Shell is the way you see an OS, example, OpenSuse (the OS) can be seen with Unity Shell (like Ubuntu 11.04) or, with Gnome 3 (this case) its like a videogame, you can play it on 1 player mode, or on 2 player mide, but the game is still the same. i hope i have explained well, but, if you have more questions, just ask me. :)

  • @Struk0FF they use the same theme. duh

  • @ipwnrubberduckiesftw yes. my fail.

  • Gnome 3 has screencasting built in lol.

hit Ctrl+Shift+Alt+R to start recording. Encodes in webm

  • @screaminjesus will try that thank you for the tip

  • @screaminjesus

and it has a major memory leak where it makes your cpu usage at 100% :P

  • @Linux4UnMe When I tried it on my machine it worked fine,.

  • @screaminjesus

I know it still works... but did you check your cpu usage to see the memory leak?

You can't tell me it didn't happen because it happens to everybody. Otherwise make a video and chuck a screenlet of the cpu on it to show that it doesn't reach 100% usage ;)

  • @screaminjesus where is the recorded audio and/or video saved to??

  • @sNaYkE15 Home Folder

  • Great video!

  • you just hold alt to get the poweroff option man... or is it ctrl..... can't remember now

  • @Linux4UnMe Cool, the alt button to reveal the shutdown, Thank you for the tip

  • I really love your theme. Is that standard? I noticed most other videos show a gray theme. But your metallic blue with that slight arch is awsome. Where did you get it? Are you running Emerald as well? I would love to get my desktop to have your theme when I get gnome 3.

Also, is compiz disable for gnome 3? I can't imagine how it will work with that. The new Gnome 3 is soo cool looking, i guess I can do with out Compiz anyway.

  • @yophillybro This theme comes on opensuse 11.4 as standard, no compiz on Gnome 3, i prefer ubuntu unity plenty of compiz going on there

  • @yophillybro no Compiz in Gnome-Shell. Compiz will probably work fine in "fallback mode". It is Gnome-Shell (which is just a shell for gnome3 - Unity is too).

So in theory if you want to run the Gnome3 stack and compiz, you can. You just can't use Gnome-Shell as it is using Mutter, it has it's own compositor. (not as good as compiz, either)

  • It's like OSX and Win7 had a baby...

  • those folders look ugly - very gnome 2. Otherwise look forward to giving it a spin.

  • what do you recommend? install using opensuse or archlinux or ubuntu?

  • @ultimatezero00 Ubuntu, absolutely, archlinux its quite difficult if you are new in linux, and Ubuntu ismore free than OpenSuse

  • Was openSuse the first distro to deliver the final gnome 3 desktop? I'm confused, since the download link of openSuse 11.4 Gnome at their site doesn't indicate wether it's 3 or not. Still, at gnome3's site, at "Try it out", all I find is a Fedora and an openSuse download link. Fedora shows the date (2011-04-05), showing it's outdated, while the openSuse link indicates it's (v-1.0.0), so I think that's the newest and latest gnome 3 built in, right? So, is Gnome 3 openSuse's default desktop now?

  • @AndrewShadows opensuse it the latest release where as fedora 15 it still in beta

  • @Motosuna1982 if you Google gnome 3 on Ubuntu 10.04 , im not sure if it works smoothly

  • long admin password...

My laptop is secure, and no one in the house knows linux well at all, so I keep mine really short. Everything else I have has a really long password.

  • @TWILisawesome my 6 yr old can remember that password

  • @novelldesktop lol i fail

  • Can I run this in Ubuntu 10.10?

  • @dudefku24 you can run it on Ubuntu 10.10

  • @novelldesktop Is it safe to install it though?

  • @dudefku24 once it runs as a live cd its safe to use it but only as fedora 15 or opensuse 11.4,
