  • i have abunch of questions.

1 what is the best bait for snook?

2 where is the best place to look for snook?

3 what pound test should i use?

4 would a hand line work just as well for snook? cause i have used hand lines with monster tarpoon and it works pretty well for me. anyway, i live in the united states virgin islands and i have seen other captians catch snook but they are not to keen on letting me in on the secret. please help!!!

  • 1. There is no best bait. You just have to figure out what they are eating.

    2. Snook have a wide habitat. I tend to fish them in structure.

    3. I like heavier line in the 50 to 130 pound class.

    4. Sure you can give it a shot.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • is he in a ghost town or did they clear that whole area for the show xD

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • Hello,

    congratulations! beautiful fish!

I am Brazilian and I would like to know what hook (size) you use for fishing for that?

which the size and number of leader do you use?

which libragem of equipment (rod and line)?

what is the reel you use?

    thanks

  • I used an Eagle Claw 10/0 Tuna Hook for structure fishing.

I use 80-125 pound Suffix Fluro leader

I had a Cape Fear 25-50 Man O War rod with 80-130 pound Braided line.

The reel I use now is an Avet MXL 2spd

    Thanks for watching the show.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • I think the best part of this was the snook you caught on the catfish whee did you come up with that I mean like you said those are the things we throw away.

  • Just got lucky.

    LOL

  • wow i gotta hand it to you man those are some great snook! i was wondering where you were fishing in this episode and if marco island is a good place to catch snook and if so, what's a good bait to use?

  • We filmed this North in Ft. Myers. Marco Island has some very good fishing. I would say Thredfin are probably the best.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • what kind of reel you were using?

  • I usually use Avet MXL's or SX's for Snook. Thanks for watching.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • i love chew on this

  • i think that that fish was big but not bigger than me...

  • wow,,,, i live in mexico and we have pretty big snooks, but thiese ones, really big. please send info so we can visit you someday!

    congratulations

  • what was better a swim or the fish

  • The fish but the swim was a close second.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • what you catch lady fish on

  • where is the best place in southwest florida to catch snook? please answer.

  • Pine Island Sound

  • wow, great show, im only 13 and im interested in every fish you catch.

  • I think the biggest snook in SW Florida comes out from that dock. I pulled one out that taped ~54" in the water (didn't have the heart, or strength to pull her out of the water).

Capt. Ben, have you put together an out-takes vid? One of you falling over board, tossing figure-8 cast nets, hooking your t-top on a back cast, getting stuck by a catfish barb, etc? Please do, to show the rest of us you are human!

  • ha i think ive fished that exact boat dock. my result was close to the same but a lil smaller

  • that is crazy! how do u do all of this fishen?

  • It's my job fortunately.

  • there all girls huh?

  • your jerkin the rod around to much be more smooth

  • next time i go snook fishing i am keepin a couple catfish in the bait well!

  • capt.c where did you catch the fish?

  • Ft. Myers

  • good ol canesta...its amazing how many big snook are in there

  • that looks fun!

  • damn cap you got my true love and i live in mn i got the saltwater bug 5 yrs ago and you are doing what i honestly think and dream and read about every day god bless you my man from a plumber in minnesota. keep chewin and why dont you have a contest to go fish with you,i'll sign up.later bro

  • Swivel I love the passion in this post. Thanks for watching the show. Saltwater fishing has a bad habit of giving a person the fishing bug. LOL

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • chancey is the man hands down.

Yo cap checkout this video your gonna laugh,

I throw out a like 12 inch ladyfish by the dock and hook a 40+ snook. the hook pops when he gets close in but u get too see the hookset and his big head shake.

  • Should you be hanging thoses big breeders from the boca grip?

  • Shooting Stars the show was shot in 2004 when Boga Grips were in. Now they are out but you can't go back and change the show because Bogas are not the preferred method of handling a Snook anymore. Thanks for watching and thanks for your concern.

  • Captain Ben, Whats the best bait for a big Redfish..Reddrum or Cobia in the Carolinas?

  • Captain Ben, do you do guide services around your area? If you do, how much does it cost to go with you, and what are the options of fishing you offer? PM me please with the answer

  • Chancey i need to know what Circle hooks you use, the ones ive been using like to Pop out when the fish leaps. I've lost 2 out of 4 so far from that :(

  • Shortbus I really don't use circle hooks much because I believe they lose a lot of fish.

  • Capt. Ben i have one question and it is what are you pullin this snook out on what? what rod, reel?

  • Most recently I used an Avet MXL 6/4 2speed on a Cape Fear EXT 15-40.

  • Thats one HOG nukey nice fish brother!

  • Capt. I was wondering what # line/leader u would suggest for catching large snook and redsish. I'll be down in the englewood area at the end of july.

  • Astro I go very heavy on the Snook. 80-125 is not uncommon on the structure oriented Snook.

    Thanks for watching.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben Chancey

  • omfg unbelievable!!!!Congratulations

  • CHANCEY!! yo man i caught my first PIG snook yesterday he was about 35 inches.

i lost about 3 fish last week due to the Tide ripping under the docks and the big snooks, so i came back ready for war with a 12-25 lb class st croix spinning and a stradic 4000 30lb powerpro 40lb flourocarbon drag Real tight circle hook HES GOT IT!!! REEEL DOWN ON EM!! hahahah everybody loves it man keep the shows coming

  • Great to hear shortbus. You may want to go even bigger with your tackle so you increase your landing percentage even more.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • I used to fish with Ed Chancey in St.Cloud Fl,Are you related?

  • I don't believe I know Ed.

  • NICE FISH CHANCEY. cant beleive u caught a snook with a catfish. is that the first time youve done that? or does it actually work as a bait?

  • Believe it or not they do work as bait for a lot of predatory fish.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • We are fishing in SW Florida. Cape Coral, Ft. Myers, Sanibel

  • what waters are they fishing on?

  • Hello from Mexico, Captain Chancey. Awesome show, Congratulations. One question, whats the equipment you use for this kind of snook fishing? (line, hook, leader, weight, rod, reel). Thanks for your help. Carlos.

  • Crazy we use jigs to catch them. You have to pattern the ladyfish so you can catch enough for bait.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • how do you get little lady fish like those? fish for them?

  • what is the difference between inshore and offshore fishing. if i am bottomwater fishing, is that consider offshore??

  • Yes Bottomwater is usually out of site of land.

  • Those are some big ol' snook .

  • Do you know a guy named addam mullen from st. pete FLA???

    PLZ respond

  • Yippie not that I know of. Does he know of me?
