  • Épica canción del disco que le dio identidad sonora a Suede.

  • Best line - with ice in her blood and a dove in her head.

  • Bernard Butler en estado de gracia.

  • Musique de Suede, Images de Derek Jarman, what else?

  • suede's first album showed by far they were more than worthy, when dog man star came out, was viewed by many as a disappointment, but I always rate this as one of the best albums I own, ashphalt world, superb classic track..... they share the scarlet... best line ever

  • This one is up there with Stairway and Aqualung. Classic.

  • Dog Man Star is definately Suede's magnum opus. I'm glad I'm not alone in having bouts of playing it over & over again. However I find videos never manage to do the songs justice so I never resort to them - just for sharing the songs on facefuck etc - 'though I post the sound-only posts if at all possible.

Live vids - different matter, but there are so many dodgy ones.

Anybody actually catch the recent live shows ?

  • Dog man *

  • I absolutely love this song, reminds me of being 15 years old. Just perfect angst, love it , love it love it xxx

  • Absolutely beautiful..................

  • 9 people never felt her ass...

  • Timeless :)

  • this is by far their best album dog man star. Very underrated.

  • Suede have so many genuinely great songs, that still stand up today. Listening to a lot of bands of that era, Suede just seem a cut above it all.

This was beautiful at Brixton the other night.

  • The didn't get any better than this. ...and I'm seeing 'em do the whole album, tonight at Brixton! Beat that! ;)

  • @aehalpin Amazing wasn't it..this was probably my favourite song of the night!

  • 1st class my favourite album of all time thats including Beatles and stuff, Its what it made me feel at that point in my life this album can breath life into you and can drowned you.. i love you sarah My insatiable one.xx.

  • This is why Suede were better than any band of their generation.

  • Dog Man Star..one of the most under rated albums of the 90s.

  • I was stood by the mixing desk and it was fine there - not loud enough tho and there were too many wankers who'd just come straight from their office in Canary Wharf no doubt having negotiated some blood syphoning in 3rd world hospitals

  • Bernard Butler, gone... Suede, gone... those years, gone... this song, still here, painful...

  • how the fuck can this have dislikes?

  • So refined, evocative. I'm going for a wank.

  • I belong to the jeunesse dorée , we wear suède clothes and make only mésalliances.

  • I belong to the jeunesse dorée , we wear suède clothes and make only mésalliances.

  • !Qué rolota!

  • I love this song. So moving and beautiful

I saw them live in Liverpool in my 20s, going back a bit there, they were amazing.

    I just love Suede.

  • This is such a beautiful song with such heartfelt and haunting images

  • A forgotten Brit Pop gem, with the full genius of Bernard Butler to the fore.

  • I remember my first year away from home

Used to listen to this song all the time - the nostalgia is unbearable

  • Exquisite.

  • Apparently Bernard wanted to make it thirty minutes long with an eight minute solo.

  • I think Suede did fall apart after Bernard left. Coming up was great however, but everything after that sucked. I still love Suede though and they were important in my life. But their lyrics just went downhill, after their early stuff...

  • @sisterlucyful I agree. The first two albums were the band I love. After that... the band I like.

  • This is one of the few songs I can close my eyes and just lose myself in. It's like floating, almost.

  • canzone meravigliosa da brividi!!!!!!!

  • I guess the one good thing about having a recession and a (possible) useless tory goverment is that people might make music like this again,,,,,,

  • Sueda.

  • brilliant song. terrible video.

  • @CreationBaby TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRIBLE VIDEO....... aome talented fan should make a new one, this is even insulting!

  • @CreationBaby i'm sure they (Suede) would agree with you :)

  • Most incredible lyrics of all time!!!

  • ladies and gantlemen this song is really hot. so very sexy ,

so , who is going to make love with me on this song backgraound ?

    yammy thought ! :D

    briliant band, love suede xxx

  • ...and there in her arms...and there in her legs...well I'll be in her heeeeeeeeeead...

  • I remember reading somewhere that this is like Suedes 'Strawberry Fields Forever', everybody loved it but it made Paul leave the beatles and The Asphalt World did the same to Bernad

  • @fuckscum Unfortunatelly Suede never healed after Berdnard's departure, and he....made nothing but crap on his own...my opinion. No band can ever resist making such a song. After this, nothing could ever be the same.

  • @DarkSunDaughter what an apocalyptic portrait of Suede's life. Suede isn't Bernard, they did great without him. Coming Up proves it.

  • One of the best songs ever made...

  • this is my fave song in the entire world

  • Одна из моих любимых песен!!!.. и несмотря на то что я мало понимаю по английски, группа Suede одна из самых моих любимых...

САМЫЕ КРУТЫЕ.... Very well, good song, the most class,...... I badly know English....))))

  • @pvv69 :P

  • Such a great band and this is such a beautiful song...

    thanx for sharing

  • very Pink Floyd !!

    very ECHOES !!

    Brilliant Bernard !!!

  • Thanks Sean , Great song ! Every reply is better than the last .I think the video is excellent , Kinda psychedelic. Thanks for posting Mr. T.

  • Masterpiece musically, one of my top songs of all time. Lets not discuss the video though, lol.

  • One of my all time favourite.

Dog Man Star is so addictive that at one point, I had to ask my roommate to hide the CD.

I couldn't concentrate anymore on what so ever!

I always had a song from that album ringing in my head.

And of course, Asphalt World was the prime reason for it all !

  • it was the same for me for Dog Man Star - an addiction!

  • @ludwigzia There was something about this song...I think it takes us to a our dark place...and I couldn't agree more! the cd was played to the ground!

  • @ludwigzia

I remember, a long time ago (ten years or so)...

go out... pull (or not pull) either way come back and drink some more, listen to this and some other fucked up shit

    the days

  • @ludwigzia I love your comment, especially about having to get your roommate to hide your cd, made me laugh. Dog Man Star is addictive. For me it's a masterpiece.

  • A masterpiece.... just perfect.

  • Love love love this, Dog Man Star saved my life

  • I saw them on the DogManStar tour, I think in Hull. Definately their high point. This is amazing.

  • que buen tema, inolvidable..., es volver a esa epoca llena de libertad y sueños, amores en espera y carretes interminables....

  • best song ever!

  • LesterStone, good comment, but I'd go further and say one of the greatest albums of the 90s, not just from the UK. Absolutely superb, and this coming from a metal fan too.

  • divina.....

  • Oops. The Bolero sample is on the final track, of course.

  • A police car just went past here as I was listening to the segue bit in the middle, and the siren was both in tune and in time.

    Bizarre.

What are the odds that it was the producer who came up with the inspired Bolero sample at the end?

  • i'd forgotten how good this was - saw them live on the dog man star tour - awesome

  • fucking great album from a fucking great band

  • This is a symphony, not a song. One of the best of them all.

  • great comment, you read my mind there about this not being a song but a symphony.

  • This song and this album is so great. Dog Man Star is one of the greatest UK albums of the 90's, I just listened to it and it still remains awesome. Greetings from Perú.

  • Definitely the best Suede song and their best album. Amazing.

  • one of the most beautiful and touching songs ever

  • By far one of the best songs. I instantly fell in love with the band, life, myself and everything surrounding me.

  • i know. big fan cos of this song. and i love the whole album dog man star!

  • i think dog man star was their best album...and this was their best song. europe is our playground comes close 2nd

  • That's beautiful! x

  • what Shuke said

  • THE best suede song. Awesome for listening to in grainy quality, mid-afternoon, as I've just found out.

Dog Man Star and Sci-Fi Lullabies just blew me away, and still do today.

  • their best song, brilliant!

  • one of the best songs from the album, an album actually full of astounding songs...

  • so beautiful

  • Amazing song!

  • Dog Man Star is such a beautiful album and the b-sides to the singles from the album contained on Sci Fi Lullabies prooves just how much better this band were than their counterparts.

  • I rem Suede, once they were great, but that was then

  • Along with Trainspotting, this is one of the best adverts for nicotine and

heroin(e) ever. Corinne Day wasn't the only one 'to blame' for make smack stylish. It seems a pretty silly moral panic now doesn't it?

In retrospect suede are strangely prudish. Brett's sexuality was always very coy and his euphemisms for shagging make me think he is not bi or gay at all but asexual.

Beautiful song, and the video defines everything that was stylish about the 90s. Glad it's all back in fashion now!

  • Hi,

You posted one of the most thoughtful comments....

Wouldn't it be beautiful if someone like Brett and P.J could end up together...

    Niko-

  • " It seems a pretty silly moral panic now doesn't it?"

Not to me. I grew up with 'heroin inspired music of the early 90's. But plenty of my friends did'nt get to my age.

I love this music but now I'm older I'd feel awful to hear my kids listening to this kind of this.

  • I just adore this song, listened to it over and over again as a teen and always said would be my funeral song!!

Played it in the car when in labour on the way to hospital, it gave me strength!!!i must sound mad.........

  • from 4:45 on I get a real strong early Pink Floyd vibe. It's wonderful the way the come in heavy with the drums and the fabulous bass playing and the organ. This song is so dramatically powerful.

  • but why haven't nobody put up 'black or blue'? That song is soooooo unbelievable great.. :o/

  • I can't even describe how amazing this song is...

It brings back my teen years...

I would stand and stare out my window while it was getting dark, listening to Dog Man Star, and especially this song...

  • So I wasnt the only one. thanks x

  • which film do suede use at the end? i NEEEEED TO KNOW,NOW !

  • You have captured the sex and drugs of this song... Dog Man Star... IS the album of the 90's I don't care if you come from America or Europe... this album is a sci-fi lullaby that will haunt us until the day we die...

  • best brit band of the decade, by far

  • I get completely lost in this song, I can't think of any others that do that to me.

  • Anyone know what spoken is at the end of the song? (the woman on telephone line or something)

  • every time i watch an old black and white movie i watch intensly to see if it might just be the film used for asphalt world..sounds like two woman discussing alcoholism and a violent husband...might not even BE a film..still searching man.

  • the conversation at the end is from the hitchcock movie 'the birds'

  • is this the way to say goodbye

  • ..."the arse felt world"... heheheee!! love it

  • Love this song, my fav Suede song and one of my all time favs. They were far better than any of the other British bands around in that era. Just a pitty BB left.

  • thing is bernard HAD to leave, wasn't happy, wanted all of their songs to be 20 minute long guitar solos which would have drowned them...dms sold about five copies, they were on the way down and then richard gave them their biggest selling album ever. dms is my favourite ever album but bb leaving allowed them to make another good album and get success.

  • In time honoured furs you broke all our hearts.

  • "And how does she feel when she's next to you" - I almost cry when I listen it. One of the most beautiful songs about breaking with someone, who's still someone special for you.

  • I'm Big Suede fan from the Philippines. Suede for me is one of the greatest band of this time. Really great musicians. Deep lyrics.. Deep Meaning.. And their music simply match the intense of their lyrics. Simply genius.

  • Oh what a song! It never fails to get me all stirred up- and no, 9 and a half minutes isn't long enough ;

  • greatest guitar solo in human history!

  • Maravillosa, sobrecogedora, desde la primera vez que la escuché en 1994 nunca dejaré de amarla

  • One of Suede's greatest tunes, so sad in contrast to what was going on in the band.

Dog Man Star is one of the greatest British albums ever recorded.

  • Yes,yes!! that is greatest album in my life!

  • muy, muy cruel para mi, todo el video, los riffs, la letra, jesus maes, cruel es la palabra

  • Beautiful.

9 and a half minutes isn't long enough in my opinion.

  • Just a fucking great song, you really get hit by the power of Brett and Bernard's emotions at this point in their lives, which is perfectly emoted in the song. A breakdown of friendship.

  • Just a fucking great song, you really get hit by the power of Brett and Bernard's emotions at this point in their lives, which is perfectly emoted in the song. A breakdown of friendship.

  • Just awe inspiring.

    My favourite Suede song!

  • this song chills my spine, thanks for sharing had no idea this existed

  • My all time favourite Suede song....!!!

    xox

  • best suede guitar solo.

    great song

  • semplicemente splendida.......quanti ricordi in una Londra di più di 10 anni fa si intrecciano a questo magnifico gruppo.

    grazie

  • amazing

  • reminds me of so many moments in my teenage years!

    great band

  • This song was the soundtrack of my teen years.. I loved it so much.. and still do. It is just an amazing piece of music!

  • la letra es cruel y el video es cruel, mas que exelente, acertera apreciacion de la vida, 5 estrellas suede

  • Yup, you seldom have words to what Suede did.

  • Fascinating I love this band , its so stylish so....... i do not have words to describe it, the lyrics of this song are so sad n beatifull i identfy so much with them, i am disarmed right now

  • fantastic when the tension is built up from around 5:30 and then it bursts all out with drums and guitars at 6:29. probably my favourite suede moment. love simon's drums very much on this song.

  • Brilhante!!! continuem.......................

  • This song used to be one of my fave numbers from the "Dog man star" album.. Still like it :)

  • best song by the best band

  • I agree about that: for sure, one of the better Suede's song.

  • One of the BEST Suede songs ever. Truly transcendental. Makes you forget the time and the place.

P.S. Suede was not underrated band in the 90's... It's a great loss they broke.

  • I love it... especially the chorus? at 3:06 on

  • I really love this tune. It's very atmospheric and erotic.

  • Does anyone know where the dialogue at the end of the song comes from?

  • im pretty sure it is from the alfred hitchcock movies, "the birds"

  • Thanks for posting this. I love the album, this then into still life. Just the best. Underated band. Brett shines where others cannot.

  • Incidentally, it was abso-bloody-lutely awesome live, all 4 times :D:D

  • My favourite song of all time. Amazing. Best band of my lifetime too, so far.

  • Suede forever..! Love from Denmark..

  • a fantastic song from an under rated band and from a very under rated album

  • Agreed, this is a gret song from one of the best albums of the 90 decade.......

  • the best suede song ever!

  • this song has the GREATEST atmosphere !

  • They are supposed to return right now once and for all and the sooner the better. They are better

  • A video directed by Derek Jarman...showed during the Dog MAn Star tour...they did the story of music! Suede, probably the best band in the world.

  • Great band and great poets of our time.

  • My favorit suede song!

  • Great song, but bad video.

  • In truth this was never a video by standards. It was filmed as just a backdrop for the tour while preforming this song live.

  • suede kicked off brit pop, and stuck to their dignity, they made music, oasis, blur, supergrass ect would of been scared to make, they went under the gloss, thank god, . i like oasis, bluer ect, but suede, looked under the carpet, and gave us the truth. fuck wonderwall, lol. this is proper music, the guitars by bernard - just before he walked out- are undescribable, so i wont try,!

  • SUEDE The Asphalt World I know a girl she walks the asphalt world She comes to me and I supply her with Ecstasy Sometimes we ride in a taxi to the ends of the city Like big stars in the back seat like skeletons ever so pretty I know a girl she walks the asphalt world But where does she go? And what does she do? And how does she feel when she's next to you? And who does she love in time-honoured fur? Is it me or her?
  • I know a girl she walks the asphalt world She's got a friend, they share mascara I pretend Sometimes they fly from the covers to the winter of the river For these silent stars of the cinema It's in the blood stream, it's in the liver I know a girl, she walks the arse felt world But where does she go? And what does she do? And how does she feel when she's next to you? And who does she love in time-honoured fur? Is it me or is it her?
  • With ice in her blood

And a Dove in her head

Well how does she feel when she's in your bed?

When you're there in her arms

    And there in her legs

Well I'll be in her head

    Cos that's where I go

    And that's what I do

And that's how it feels when the sex turns cruel

Yes both of us need her, this is the asphalt world

  • they will be back. I'm pretty sure of it.

  • la mejor del grupo

  • Probebly the best Suede song EVER!!!

  • Agree. I'd also count Europe is our playground

  • It is my fave song too (Europe is our playground). And Animal Nitrate and Beautiful Ones and... God, is there any Suede song that I don't like? :)

  • EUROPE is out playground is quite more simple than this song but it´s so emotional indeed. I think this song is better for the music composition. This is a great song

  • one of their best...no doubt
