  • Watched it last night in Sydney. We had high expectations after seeing the trailer and I must say it was a disappointment. They could have done a much better job with the money they spent. The guy marketing it in Syd. did an introduction and said it could be compared to movies such as Lord of the Rings and The God King. We were all waiting for it and, ooops what a comparison! I'm not saying it was all rubbish but a major disappointment!

  • ohh is it?? Thanks for d info..Im going to sl next week and I asked to book some tickets.thought it was a great film

  • is it just me or does this movie remind you a lot of ashoka?

i prefer dadubasnamanaya, by far more sinhalese

  • itz a great film..

  • relase today....08/08/2008

  • cnt wait to see this awesome movie ! Respect wht Jackson did to Sri Lankan Cinema ! Jayawewa!

  • i wanna see this....thank for upload videos trailer

  • Copy of 'ASHOK'though its good attempt

  • (from previous comment..)

Sinhalese history is not begins from Vijaya, but many many years before him. Do you believe that Vijaya the Thief (who exiled due to his uncivilized behavior by his own father) could civilize this land? or your forefather?

  • just so you know movies are usually made more for entertainment than history. you really shouldnt get offended by this. just because a movie is based on history does NOT mean it is history.

  • im a proud sinahalese...good luck sister...

  • "Aba" is bullshit! infact the story of "pandukabhaya" is another bullshit! Jacka has shamelessly, nakedly mixed westerner's christian view on easterners with insulting view about ancient sinhalese.

To Sinhala Fools (JackAsses) who sympathize & insists on Jaka's "Aba": you are fooled by Jaka.. he fooled all by "Maha sinhale wansakathawa" now he comes up with "Aba" to entertain you further with his lies & distorted Sri Lankan history.

    (jump to next comment...)

  • one singe word to sy for you..fuck you jack ass!!!go to india and save your ass

  • wel..nilaksha2005......!i think u should go n chanel a psycologist as soon as posible! i bet u r suffering frm 'DPRESSION' n SPECIALL frm 'DOWNS SYNDROME'!! or else take 2 capsules of 'FLUOXETINE-20mg' after the breakfast daily!(MEDICAL STUDENT-university of colombo) GET WEL SOOOOON DARLING!!!

  • darling nilaksha2005, there's a great sinhala pharase.''BALLEK BIRUWATA KANDAK PATH WENNE NA..!!'' learn it dear....

  • Continuing the points I made before...

Can you chase down someone while riding on a horse, this is in a place like Anuradhapura, and you are riding on a land with lots of natural barriers, like land diversity rocks trees, muddy fields.. This area need lots of research..

But we need to start from somewhere, and this is the right kind of a start, thanks for all this hard work

  • This movie is not advertised as the truth and the absolute truth. While based on the story of the great Sinhala Prince Pandukabhaya, it's not necessarily a history lesson.

Besides, 2000 years ago Anuradhapura was very differently inhabited, and the terrain and battle ground may have been slightly different.

The only thing I don't like is the way he shouts "...mawbima surakimi ... yuda wadimi" That is not the way we shout in Sinhala. The tone and inflection of his voice is more Hollywoodish

  • Hollywoodish?. Which stone were you under all these years? what are you trying to say here????

  • djgal4st [This ..a history lesson] - I am not talking about a absolute truth here. You are not understanding me..

more you talk more it proves how little you know. Just live in your world mate, it seems it is already bigger for you. I have nothing to talk with you..

  • well how you say that I would give my life for my mother land, its said well in Sinhalese..you dumb ass...ima Sinhalese coming from kandy

  • Who the hell are you and why are you replying to my comments? When did I ask you if you'd give your life to your motherland? I've never seen you before, so who the fuck are you?

And how is your reply related to anything I have said here? All I was doing was defending our great Sinhala people, and defending this film as a work of art and not necessarily a history lesson.

So, once again, dumbass, what the fuck are you talking about?

  • Ah haha. You ass, I was not commenting on the sinhala "words" he used, asshole, I was commenting on the "tone" he used. It seems a bit fake, and this is my criticism of this young actor.

He is undoubtably a great actor, but that last bit "Surakimeeeee" is a bit ugly. The sound of his voice when he shouted it was a bit fake.

  • That answer your question, naamba-that-jumps-into-conclusions-without-knowing-what-I-meant?

  • -The character Aba prince has not work *that* well. he, his voice, actions are too young, and immature to play for prince abaya. When he moves the sward it was like the sward move him not the other way.

-Finally, you guys got to do more research on the Sri Lanka battle field/ castle before copying it from Chinese, Indian or American. What it would be like an ancient Sri Lanka battle field? (battle cannot be like in films like troy or ashok).. But sadly I have never seen any doing it yet.

  • Chill dude, it's a movie, not a history lesson. That's why our country has such a poor film industry. Film is supposed to be mainly for entertainment. Not necessarily reality.

There are many genres of films. Some are totally historical (as accurate as can be) and some are entertaining, etc. People expect everything to be real and boycott it.

  • djgal4st [Chill dude] - speak for you.

djgal4st [it's a movie, not a history lesson] -- Yes I am with you. djgal4st [That's why our country has such a poor film industry] -- What do you mean?

djgal4st [Film is ... reality]- Films are not real so isn't that obvious. What are you trying to say here?

djgal4st [There are many genres ..., etc. People ..to be real and boycott it.]- who are these people, I never said it has to be real did I?

What are you trying to say after all...

  • Good attempt, kiddos to the team..

    Let me point some improvements

-The music at times does not give me that old, historical, secretic, uncertain feeling, need improvement

-The fighting seen need lots of improvement, the team need at least 100 more times of training. Their movement (Adimaru) are just childish, I never saw a single movement that shows the maturity of a well trained fighter.

    Continue....

  • This is a good attempt and I'm sure a good film, but there is a slight problem. How well does this depict history? Isn't the yakka civilization looking too underestimated and unlike themselves?

But I suppose the most important thing is that it shows the origin of Sinhala civilization in an interesting way. Hopefully this'll be the revival to historic themes in the Sinhala cinema.

  • film seems fine except music.music shud b strong enough to feel warriors and d battle.but d person who says "KUMARAYA INNAWA" is weird.
