  • James, you have blessed fingers!

  • From a fellow former pianist KUDOS.

  • Beautiful. This composition is not as easy as it may appear.

  • who can help me sending me music score of that serenade :P ? he play very clear and his tempo is perfect .... ;) good job :P

  • hard hitting in both senses :)

  • beautiful. Thanks!

  • i dont think it's too slow. actually thats the rythm that this serenade was written in. yes there were 2 slips. but i noticed that was when he got too emotional. that happens.

  • i dont think it's too slow. actually thats the rythm that this serenade was written in.

  • HA SBAGLIATO TUTTO NELLA PARTE DOPPIA

  • nearly the best on youtube! congrats....

  • I'm learning the same exact arrangement of this song, and I think he messes up at 4:26 - 4:38. He must have had a memory slip or something, because that part is definitely altered pretty greatly, but I LOVED his recovery! I had to be following along with the score to notice!

  • its good... atleast better than my playing of serenade.. ha ha.. :)

  • link???

  • you play the piece very beautifully. I am learning it now and find it quite challenging.

    thanks for the inspiration.

  • So filth with emotion, beautiful.

  • i love this song

  • Listened to this over and over and over cuz this piece was a Theory 3 Analyzation project. Your interpretation helped A LOT! Thank you for posting!

  • I dont know why, but listening to this song mkaes me think of Dorian Gray =)

I guess that's that something epic.

  • @PassiveAggressive333 A painting of Liszt is actually on the most recent American reprint of the portrait of Dorian Gray.

    Just thought I'd mention that.

  • quite good for an amateur.

  • Most beautiful performance, thank you.

  • BRAVISSIMOOOOOO !!

  • A very nice and capable interpretation. A little flat. My two favorites are still the young russian player who won the 2007, Vitaly Pisarenko and the best is still Horowitz. Takes your breath away.

  • Very nice performance..... i love it

  • this is so pretty, I could fall asleep to it, or just relax inbetween the emotional trip it takes me on

  • I've always heard this for piano and voice... this is very very nice!!

  • this is amazing. i'm learning this song for piano but it's quite hard to mix the right hand and left hand together! you make it seem so easy.

    fantastic interpretation.

  • Wow, James. A very moving interpretation. Incredible. I do have to admit it brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for playing with such incredible feeling.

  • wonderful piece of music

  • mein gott

  • wow

  • I didn't know Franz Liszt transcribed this Schubert composition while playing a recital at Boise State! Regardless of misplaced modifiers, you play this quite well.

  • Sorry, that was so funny but I accidentally gave you a thumbs down instead of a thumbs up

  • what a soft sensitive sweet touch

  • I just love your playing, your touch is wonderful...so sweet, simply amazing! thanks for such beautiful emotions 5*

  • it's great! love it! <3

  • hey you are a joker ... to your own youtube website I have sent you the details

  • on top of your piano underneath the Mozart ...

  • Wow. This performance is amazing. I wish I'd been there to see it. Oh wait, I WAS! You're no Theo, but you sure are awesome. :)

  • Love ya angie! =)

  • @liuzhen2006 : Hi there I can tell you where it is !

  • wonderful touch!

  • I like this song.<3

  • James, very well played. I love playing this piece myself too. A piece that you need to play from the heart. My compliments.

  • love it!!!!!!!!!!

  • just wonderful, simply divine! thank you!

  • good!

    that's a good interpretation

  • i need another dog.

  • so heart warming

  • I am currently attempting this and it isn't as easy as it looks or sounds. There are the three melody notes after the intro that you have get even because they can sound like 2 quavers and then a long quaver and then a crotchet instead of 3 quavers (short quavers) and a crotchet. Its very hard to mix it in with the left hand and get them even at the same time!

This is one of my fav pieces of all time! I love it.

  • @MissHappyAllTheTime : INVESTIGATE the composition and take care to play slowly the difficult passages !

  • Very good indeed! Very fine and romantic sound.... One can understand gcpak and

    shinizi.

  • Perfect, I like your expression!!!!

  • Simplesmente divino!!!! Amo essa música ... é divina!!! Brasil

  • i'm melt to hear this.... wah....

  • wow really great music graphics compared to the video

  • wow :D

  • I'm moved to tears! Everytime I hear it, I got emotionalized.

  • Liszt certainly tarted -up this music very effectively. I love it.

  • @aardvaark069 liszt is a genius.

  • @jan1an No, Schubert is

  • Schubert music is so emotional..

  • This is actually pretty good. And the audio recording is pretty good too.

  • who have the scores of this pice .... i need plz ..... i want to learn ..... if anyone have the score in this variant plz send me ... i like this transription by Liszt .

  • Go to a college library near your place, and see if they have it. If not PM me, and I'll see what I can do.

  • any chance you could lead me to where i could find the sheet music for this beautiful piece. cheers

  • this is to andreicagabriel, my friend, i have a version this piece, *for the piano of course* but it seems to be a shorter version. If you would like, i would love to send u the score for the song =)

  • you are crazy , Schubert , Liszt and other composers was the best , you're a fool if you do not appreciate that !!!!!!!

  • schubert

  • You have to be a troll.

  • actually, 5. ohh!

  • beautifully played but I heard 2 wrong notes, sorry, not perfect but i like the piece.

  • i heard 3 but still love the music. :)

  • i play thiss yest i loved

  • Yeah, its Serenade, but I'm guessing its the proper name up there *points to name of the video* and Serenade is the translated version of it.

I love this piece and the composer. All amazing. I play this over and over again and I can't get enough of it.

  • it's often called seranade rather than the title here.

  • fantastic, no question...

  • Very beautiful interpretation!! This particular transcription sounds always wonderful in fast and slow interpretations!! I also have my version one youtube and my hat is off to your beautiful vision of this timeless "song"! greetings from Portugal.

  • I find the middle part 5.02 off putting. Because the whole song sounds nicer when playing smoothly.

  • Liszt Ferenc

  • Great! I enjoyed this.

  • but its still not called a "song"

  • yes it is. He wrote it as a song, it had words.......

  • But doesn't he have to sing... for it to be a song.. i mean he is playing the piece... and singing the song?

  • I think this is where the definitions are blurred to an extent. Yes, technically with the lyrics being absent, and no one is singing, it is not a song, but since the melody line and the accompaniment are being played in tandem, and the essence of the original song is kept, it still has to be considered a song. It's just like if a rock musician were to write a song, and decides to arrange an instrumental versision. its still that one Metallica or Pantera or Eagles song. I think that was clear.

  • Yes, it is. It's a "gesang." Schweregesang in German.

  • Magnificent. No other word can describe such beauty

  • woah .. that is so nice .. how come i cant play that well T.T

  • Left me speechless, simply stunning, thank you!

  • perfect. just perfect

  • whooooooooooooo I've seen Vitaly Pisarenko today !!! Whoo wtf*, he was just amazing! :o It was beautiful ! I got tears in my eyes, because he just played so damn beautiful !

And this is a beautiful song, beautiful movie !

    Love from Belgium !

  • The best recording on youtube solo piano of this piece I think. Or does anyone else know another good vid of Schuberts Serenade for solo piano?

  • Did you listen to the Vitaly Pisarenko-Version here on YouTube?

  • Listen Irene Veneziano and Vladimir Horowitz

  • Beautifully played.

  • Nice, but what is this mistake at 2:15...? He plays an F instead of a D.

  • i heard it also... but hey, there are no mistakes in music :)

  • What do you think of Vitaly Pisarenko's performance (new post on Youtube) compared to this one here?

  • I think Vitaly's is far better. Vitaly's right hand ornamentations (at 3.25 and after) are so smooth!

  • ah, so nice compared to Edgardo Roffe. This piece is played with integrity and truth. Too bad the sound quality was poor. But it looked like the camera was far away.

  • wow the people counting mistakes are giant d bags.

Sorry if that language fogs up your lenses nerdy music snobs

  • magnifique, Bravo

  • ¡Sencillamente maravillosa!

  • ¡Sencillamente maravillosa!

  • i believe joshua bell did a recording of this piece. simply divine.

  • @pollekepetaatekop:

yeah, o.k., but lets be fair, who can compare with horowitz, i mean, kissin, lang, who can now yet compare?

    Very nice, respect!

  • Beautiful played, with integrity and you hear the dialogues. But if you hear the legendaric version from Horowitz from 1988 (Horowitz at home CD) than you are witness from a crystal-clear, fathomless deep water with intense colours, a Standchen-version that will never be surpassed.

  • Oops, there was an extra Stay...his name is Robert Frost...not Stay Robert Frost.

  • very very good execution. But I counted some mistakes...

  • only one mistake so far

  • The melody of this song is sad, but sweet

  • A bittersweet yearning of unrequited loved...hark the nightingales are singing...pleading with thee and for thee.

Young love, first love, green & soft & tender and golden ("Nothing Gold Can Stay" - Stay Robert Frost).

  • Very good performance! I'm trying to find the sheet music for this...

  • Wonderful! I also play this on the organ. I have an arr. by Preston Ware Orem for the organ.

  • SWEDCHEF79 Thanks for posting this. You rendered the best version of that song. You made me want to fall in love again. (lol) I love playing this on the organ but I have a simplified music sheet. I wish I could play the piano the way you do. Please post more. THANKS!

  • thank you very much it is so beautifu Iwona Poland

  • Awesome!!!

  • blandito blandito y fofito. mas de hilo musical que otra cosa

  • Exquisite! Beautifully and emotionally played. Bravo.

  • It's really nice. Astounding

  • Fantastic - i love this - the best version i have ever heard.

  • in the title there is an error!!!!!!!!! not lizst, but LISZT

  • Thanks - My mistake - I'll fix it : )

  • A wonderful interpretation of this absolutely beautiful Schubert piece. Bravo Mr.Berry!

  • Dude, you are a piano God!

  • wow, this is really, absolutely beautiful. as a vocalist who loves this song to death - i never feel like i can get it to the sound just way i think it SHOULD sound - i think you've hit it right on the head. beautiful, beautiful, beautiful sound, emotion, expression...it seems completely flawless. bravo! i LOVE the notations you added to the vocal line in the second half of the piece.
