@helenita05 There really is no standard length. It depends on the age of the person the headband is being made for. For a child I'd probably use about 11-12 inches total. You can adjust up or down from there if it is for a baby or adult.
@UtahGmaw99 No, you don't need to. The crochet is manufactured so that it will not unravel when cut. You can if you want to, but since there are so many little ends be careful to lightly seal each small ribbon piece so you don't end up with hard lumps on the ends.
