These look amazing and I bought a pair of second hand mid calf boots to try it out. I am getting two pieces of very strong metal to hammer to shape and attatch under the sole to give more support. This might be something that can be added by others if you are worried about the lack of support ffrom the arch of the shoe.
I have used car carpet as foot pads before it gives the furry effect and is durable enough for casual outside wear then I will add some rubber paw and toe pads underneath aswell
I'm planning on using this idea if you don't mind, but cutting off the heel with conventional methods has been torture... time to break out the bandsaw!
fur will be tricky but if you seal it all up with double sided tape, you can simply attach the fur to the tape, try getting a really good quality double sided tape. Or use the tape as a straight forward 'stick on' you can use needle and thread or better hot glue gun to seal the fur edges, if your foot pads are made out of something stronger then cardboard or light foam i'd try a staple gun, just make sure to part the fur and let it blend in. Make test block and experiment with fur attaching :D
Very nice! I like this idea. I don't have anyplace to wear a costume to, but someday maybe I will and I'll make a faun using this method. :D For furring, look up duct tape pattern making, that will probably be your best bet. Though you'll have to seal the existing tape first, since that method assumes you're working on foam. BTW, it's spelled "digitigrade." ;)
i love this video! id love to make a fursuit and i plan on doing so but i have a crappy work ethic and no money so..... wish me luck! i also have no sewing skills
Wow that is AWESOME .. and looks pretty good too I'm in the process of figuring how to build my Seahorse character (XD digitigrade oddly in the Anthro-ing process XD) and this may be useful if I decide to go that far XD
My buddy did something similar once with a pair of hooker boots. Chopped off the heel and furred them. He could only walk around on them for about 20 mins or so before his calves gave way XD If you can wear em for 6 hours at a pop on your toes, more power to you!
I've been researching different types of achieving the digitigrade leg effect, and this method is new to me...
How different does it feel without the heels? I mean, is the missing heel noticabley felt? Do you feel like you have proper balance? When you put your foot down and stand or walk like in 0:49, do you get relief from any would-be pains? Haha, sorry to grill you on it, but I really must know if I want to create some comfortable digi legs.
Its not all that noticeable without the heals. It all honestly depends on the person. you see some people naturally balance on there toes and others on their heals. for someone who naturally balances on their heals these may take some practice. yes if you start getting sore in them backing down on the heals does alleviate some of the pain .... though Ive never gotten too sore in these..Ive worn them up to 6 hours even. if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.
@BlueDragonTH So what makes the toes under the duckttape and is there just regular card bored in it? is it at like the toe part or near it cause i realy want to know so i can make a half suit?
This is amazing. But, do you think, and I would really REALLY appriciate it, if you could make a video to make them step by step, preferably if you made a version with hooves instead :P
lol actually not to bad..for me at least..it depends on your natural center of balance...some people put there weight on there heels when they walk..for them it would be more difficult..however others like me naturally balance on there toes..i could where these all day :)
Jesus! Where have you been this whole time?! I was about to make a quadsuit with my flatfoot, which would obviously strain my back, and would make it look less natural!
I would've had to add foam and a whole suit, when I should be doing this!
Thanks for keeping me from wandering off in the wrong direction!
no problem! im glad it was helpful..in a week or less i hope to post another video of my new pair..there quite an improvement...if you do go about this method i recommend not using heals that stop at the ankle like these..they offer little support ..the pair i just made uses heel boots that go up to my knees and are a hundred times more comfortable...if you have any questions feel free to ask...
XD well i hope they turn out for you..the ones with no ankle coverage work very well..there's nothing wrong with them... they just take a little extra balance.
Hey, nice paws! I was wondering, what did you use for paw pads? And how have they held up? Does the duct tape and cardboard collapse over time? Thanks! :)
sorry for the delayed response... so far the cardboard has held up rather well as well as the tape...defiantly a wonderful use of cheap materials! i always look for the cost effective methods.. :) the paw pads are cut-to-shape parts of plain old black flip flops i bought for a dollar fifty! and since they are made to be walked on they too are still in excellent shape!
well..im makeing a second pair right now..and to tell the truth...it depends on how they are made and of what material...the first pair i cut off with a butcher knife..(i dont recomend this) and they were a softer material...however the second pair im working with required a hack saw..they were hard plastic with metal rods in them
Your tutorial looks easier and more comfortable other tutorials I've seen. I going to try it your way, but it's probably going to be more challenging with open-toed shoes; but it is worth a shot.
When you cut the heels off the shoes and walked around, did you walk on your toes or walk naturally balanced? Like did you have to put your weight in the front or just walk normally?
I'm planning on making a fursuit by this summer and I never really wanted to make digigrade legs because all the designs I saw were way too big and bulky for my fursona. But then I just saw your design here and it's much more sleek and subtle! I love it! <3
agreed i disliked the bulk on others; they most certainly did not look like they could be worn very long...these Ive actually test worn for up to 6 hours without getting terribly sore. and yes they are naturally balanced..i can even sit them on the floor now that i have the foot pads on the bottoms and they will stay up on there own. don't get me wrong though..just like regular heel shoes they still do require a little balance, however no more then is needed for your average pair of high heels.
i actually have redone the tape on them with a better brand now and i have painted them the color they will be with the fur on, as well as added the claws and foot pads to thee bottoms..ill try to get the next vid up so you can see how they look will a bit more work.
Thanks very much! I'll be subscribing to make sure I don't miss that video! You made me even more excited to make my fursuit. I hope you don't mind me stealing your desing. ^^

You are so right about the shoes being easy to walk in. After watching your video the first time, I removed the heels from a pair of my own high heeled boots to make stilts.
Generally people use hot glue and sewing to get the fur on. ^^
You had the same idea as I did, only the high heels I tried to use had a giant nail going through the spike. Ouch. D: The feet look great so far! Cool. :3
If you need help on what to use for putting the fur on, may I recommender a crafter's version of double-sided tape? Anytime I need something to be held to something else tightly I'd use the stuff, it is immensely strong. Where to get it, I do not know, because it was always around at my parents' place.(my mom loved to make crafts, an still does)
it all depends on where you live. check local fabric stores: joan fabrics, hancock fabrics, maybe even wal mart. but if you dont have any around you just google fake fur for sale and you should get some results.
well...the ideal way would be with a hack saw..however i live in wisconsin and its cold outside so to avoid haveing to get all bundled up to go to the garage..i used a butcher knife..*not recomended* and if you start with heals like this pair..there is a wooden post in the center of the heal. but i found i could pull it out wrather than saw through it.
Where'd u get the high heels and can you get them in any size?

so I stand about 7 feet tall in them
