  • COOL!

How do the 早稲田 university people make a robot do that?

  • His a robot and he can play only this speed, pretty crappy robot i have to say :D

  • Amazing !

  • cool

  • cool

  • better than a humanoid. This guy is a non smoker for sure.

  • Complete failure.

A robot will never achieve what a human can do.

  • yes....yes...I'll will steal this robot and soon I'll make my Iron Man suit and destroy Tony Starks industry! >:P

  • They need to put a tongue on him... every cut off sounds like he's still letting some air pass, which he probably is.

  • ...freaky...

  • I need to jam with him. Not sure how well he impovises though...

  • That's scary...not to mention completely un-natural.

  • very funny.

  • No worries:-D

  • First it plays a tune, then it kills you.

  • The robot can't put accent, not really a music, maybe can use for movie effect??? lol

  • sounds just like a person playing music on a flute.

  • you'd think a robot could do better than that xd

  • Sounds horrible, but at least it cost a fortune.

  • lol @ New Eyes

  • lollllllll xDDDDDDD

  • o.o

  • people are stupid, the song is not the point, but the robot.

  • I agree, impressive for a robot, but it's more sound than music. If you can get a whole orchestra of robots to play a Mahler Symphony and that are able to follow a great musician like Simon Rattle conducting, then I'd be amazed - in the meantime I think musicians are pretty safe.

  • That's not music, that's a robot shooting air into a tube. Horribly.

  • Idk.. the top hat is a nice touch...

  • no human expresivity :) ...this is no art

  • yeah but this is a robot, not a human.

  • this is like reinventing the wheel. Why spend millions to make a robot play a flute shitty, while u can just call up a professional flutist to play it the way it should be. humans are here for a reason...

  • that robot could move fingers better than most of people I know and me... the sound comes out weird tho...

  • For all that money spent... a simple synth program on a computer could do it better...

Oh well, I guess this goes in the record books anyway. First robot to play flight of the bumblebee?

  • so good, but no soul in his sound

  • dude wicked cool he rocks

  • this is pretty cool. but can you have the robot cresendo and decresendo, or use vibrato or anything? a rly talented flute player could probably sound better with stuff like that

  • This is like a willy wonka invention!!!1

  • scary...

  • next thing. robot world domination.

  • cool

  • It would really have lungs like that..

  • imperfection and random variation. If those are introduced to this robot then he will play "like a human"

  • ummm... the emotion and human like quality that you speak of can essentially mean only one thing: imperfection. nothing more.

  • You sound like a dalek

  • EXTERMINATE!! *cough cough* sorry what I meant to say is that imperfections in music cannot be so strictly defined, what you actually mean is deviation from the original score. And while some deviations sound bad and are done unintentionally, other deviations are done intentionally because they "feel" right to the musician playing them. The latter deviations are something a robot could never recreate (without Asimovian A.I.) and make music such a joy and true marvel and wholly unique to humans

  • its safe to assume that you're either tone deaf or a sociopath.

  • wow

  • It is still amazing for a robot

  • He needs to work on his ombichure. He has poor tone quality :-D

  • look at its air levers! I think this is is a great demonstration on breathing through its anatomy!

  • It can never beat a human playing the flute

  • The flute playing robot scares me.

  • Wow...

  • I wonder, does it sound EXACTLY the same everytime he will play it?

  • yeah, there's no emotion in his playing

  • whats DOF

  • it;s sound so so funny by 0;30 whahah that sound , the robot kicks asss

  • i can sing the flight of the bumble bee

  • No emotions or anything. this video sucks, its completely uninteresting.

  • For real?! That robot really plays a flute!? Holy Shit man!

  • holy fucking shit

  • i dont like it when robots play music because you dont really get to know what the actual music sounds like by being played by a persn.

  • WOW very will done

  • Soon these guys will replace all musicians! Just wait...

  • it was great technique but no emotion or dynamics. and i think it sounded airy at some parts.

  • still, humans are irreplaceble. At 00:23, only a human throat can produce the rumbled "R" sound

  • It's a Japanese robot

  • so is this what our tax money goes towerds why do we need a robot playin the flute for? lol

  • Cybertronic human advancement, those body parts could be used on a human with extreme asthma symptoms, or obviously the hands could be used for people with no limbs.

Thats how humans are going to advance if genetic engineering is cut short by Christian s due to the belief we're playing 'god'.

  • good point ( but im not a christian) and i dont think that creating a bot is playin god im just saying the gov. can do some wierd stuff with our tax money. ps i never thought about the limb thing lol.

  • CREEPY!!!!!!!!!!! lolz but kool

  • AGH!!!! STOP CALLING THEM FLUTISTS!!!!

IT'S FLOUTEST!!! Repeat after me... floutest!!!

  • Hate to break it to you, but actually "Flutist" is correct and so is "Flautist". There's no such thing as a "Floutest". You can check it out in your dictionary, or at w w w.dictionary.c o m. Please stop embarassing yourself. It's awkward for the rest of us.

  • well its a robot. But very immpressive

  • little scary that now robots can do that....

  • tecnología y arte no deben de confundirse

  • really neat..especially the octave jumps and how they got it to change the embouchre and all

  • what would you need a robot to play a flute for?

  • HSAAHAHAHA

  • There have been player pianos for over a hundred years and pianists are still here. I think automation should be used to replace only the worst musicians.(kidding)

  • this isn't for musicality, it isn't trying to match humans in style, it's just a mechanical achievement. now you flutists can pipe down.

  • seeing this pisses me off cause if we have robots theres not point of having musicians u know!!! Pianists are being replaced by mechanical pianos that play themselves!!! makes me mad!!

  • yeah I also find this robot really dumb

  • Great!!! Manda som Robo kkkkk....

  • hahaha tht was sooo funny! i loved it

  • Oh! What a Robot!!!

  • ROBOTS ARE GREAT!

  • It's accurate, but it's got no spirit. Damn robots and their cold precision.

  • I agree wholeheartedly.

  • that is awesome, i want 1

  • holy fricken CRAP!!!!!!!!!! this is the most brilliant thing ive ever seen in my LIFE.

  • its good but it scares me... lol!

  • the robot sounded a little ahead of tempo at times......

mabye theyll create a full robot orchestra...

    =???

as long as they dont go all terminator on us....

    ill b fine..

    =P

  • it's unbelievable!

  • that thing scares me!!!!

  • if you ever get bored while practicing....you can now have a partner to do it with you =D and you can laugh at his silly face =P....btw....can they play brass instruments XD

  • only 2 lungs?? why not 4. than you can take deep "breath's" and play very long and fast songs that people can't.

  • i want lungs like that lol i would play loads better!

  • The last two notes are truely the reason why you only see robots playing fast songs

  • Tch. Communists.

  • That was decent for a robot.

It was very interesting to notice the many numerous differences between a robot and human playing the flute.

  • Well, for a robot, it's pretty good. In a few years we'll have a whole freaken army of these things playing for us instead of people. That'll be the day. =P

  • Hahaha this one made me laugh! Couldn't help thinking about armies of robots looking like this one (with the funny hat on) following us all day while playing this same song all the time :P

  • a robot cant get really good dynamics, and hardly a good tone at all either... humans are better, foshizzle.

  • A human Can Play with feeling which a robot can't,still pretty cool and funny.

  • lol wow now u can play duets and see whos better a human? or a robot?

  • WTF?

  • umm....ok

  • wierd

  • i can play this song on the flute, and let me tell you; that was very robotic sounding.

  • why does it say communistrobot

    is it evil?

  • haha ?? is that how they test fluets?,,, they couldnt fix his lazy eyes? they were all over

  • Lmao, this is a joke right?

  • cool but kinda creepy with the robot part o.0

  • And so castle made of sand will fall into the sea... eventually.

  • this is stupid

  • fuck off WF-4RII :(

  • This is creepy... to me.

  • LMAO very cool!! Okay a LITTLE disconcerting as a flutist thinking this talented chap could one day replace me but very cool all the same on a scientific level :)

    good work!

  • I hear that it's also a protocol droid that's fluent in over 6 million forms of communication.

  • No, you're thinking of C3PO from Star Wars haha

  • LoL

  • Beware of the flutebot,It'll Take yer jerb!!

  • Was waiting for it to say

"Robot that can play Flight of the Bumblebee:

    Pricesless"

    hahaha

  • CRAZY.

  • Wow that's a freaky cd player..!

  • Mr. Roboto can play the flute. Domo Arigato!

  • Or maybe he just learned well enough to...squeak by.

Or maybe he just didn't have the mettle.

Or mayb he's got a tin ear.

  • Give the guy a break. Maybe he hasn't picked up a flute in a while and he's a bit...rusty.

  • the sound of a real player is much better than this.

  • LOL this is shit

  • This video only proves that robots could rule humanity if they felt like it. lol

  • Too bad they can't feel like doing anything.

  • humans can play it faster.

  • It looks a bit scary

  • i like that teminator impromptu jazz flute, no no seriously, "I've come back to croon Sarah Conner"

  • Gay... i cant play that! FUCK!

  • excellent!

  • is the robot just posing to play.

    or is it actually playing?

  • Looks like a display from the '64 World's Fair.

  • im scared

  • Terminator came back... with a flute! Ha ha ha!

  • That was freaky, but awesome job on the robots part.

  • amazing!

  • when you watch the video, it is sooo boring IF you are looking at the song. it sounds like a moderately good flutist who played this song. but on the other side, it shows what kind of stuff mankind are capable of creating in in these days.

and of course, a robot cannot replace a human. this is an absolute rule of thumb

  • YOUR ALL DOWNERS!! Its accepted robots are not as good as humans, now lets look at the incredible feat of engineering!

  • Some things just can't be replicated.

  • since it's a robot you'd have thought they would have done the tempo a little higher.

  • incredibly bland and stale, but it's impressive as a work of engineering

  • bland. very bland. nothing special, just like listening to a stereo

  • kinda creepy...

  • no expressionn music is one thing robots can never replace

  • A sex robot would be 1,000 better than this.

  • too fanny!

  • Nice hat.

  • Actually this is nice, but I would certainly miss all of his concerts if he dared to give any... Music requires passion... I bet engineers have a long way to make a robot play like a human

  • this is GRAND. i cant imagine that money would go into this just to make a statement about classical musicians... but its still pretty ironic. ah, the classics :)

  • so this is where our tax dollars go... thats good.. ugh!

  • Your taxes go to Waseda University in Japan?

  • How freakeshly weird, is this what the future will come to? Robots without passion? WHAT THE FUCK you should be ashamed of yourself who ever made this robot, its destroying the point of music!

  • What a waste of money!!! *slaps forehead*!

  • OMG no! No no no no no! Why?!?!

  • Thank God he didn't sound better than James Strauss!

  • Wow.. RANDOM!

  • that robot is my baby

i don't care what they sy but i love that robot =] hehehe

  • where do peaple come up with this stuff

  • Why do you put lungs on a ROBOT? :O

  • last notes are false :P

  • dynamics will be easy for them to put in it.

  • better than a 5 year old; not better than James Galway... which is why I will be able to rest easy tonight

  • funny ^^ i like it

  • I thought, "Hey, that's not entirely creepy" until I saw it's eyes move.

  • in something like music, robots will never replace us. It may be able to "play" anything, but its 100% bland! No emotion (obviously, its a robot) No dynamic contrast, no FEEL for the piece. Humans will always have emotion, robots will never =0.

  • That's it, pure technique but totally emotionless... music is comunication.

  • he can do this, but can he beat box flute like Greg Patillo

  • yea that guys nuts

  • not cool haha i REFUSE to let a robot replace me lmbo.. good thing he has bad tone eh? funny to watch though

  • sexcey man!

  • Incredible the things humans have programed machines to do. But it lacks a human quality that no machine can and hopefully will never be able to harness.(not that i am against Technology.)

    Thank you for posting.

    Saor.

  • That is a bit creepy.
